TIME IS UP!
Apologies for the delay due to some real life prep work (I announced the extension on the Camo and OM Discord by the way). With that, voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

Clefable sprung into mind as the main component of this team's secret ingredient, using a rather intricate strategy of spreading burns through Trick + Flame Orb and at the same time boosting its stats Calm Mind and ignoring other boosts through Unaware. The other components to complete this team's secret ingredient were Azelf with Nasty Plot as the back-up fast sweeper, and Cinderace with Court Change to deter hazard setters. Victini serves as the revenge killer of the team while backing up as another Fire/Electric attacker since Azelf has Energy Ball to lure Water/Ground Pokemon. Slowking is then added to prevent the team's overall weakness to Dragapult and serves as the team's special sponge through Regenerator, and finally, Buzzwole serves as another bulky set-up attacker to pair with Calm Mind Clefable.

Luxray, a strong Guts wall breaker that has the ability to pivot through Volt Switch, is the main component of this team's secret ingredient. Calm Mind Necrozma is also featured here and it serves as a hybrid win condition. Completing the secret ingredient is Xurkitree who, alongside Rillaboom, can add the offensive dynamic to the team by exerting pressure to almost any team in this metagame. Finally, this team features a tried and true defensive backbone through Salamence and Heatran.

Cresselia and Snorlax are the main components for this team's secret ingredient, capable of putting up late game wins by virtue of Calm Mind and Curse, respectively. Alakazam gives the team's secret ingredient a nice fast offensive touch. Binding the offensive potentials of these three Pokemon together is Magnezone who has been a menacing force in the metagame by taking out Steel-types that get in the way of the secret ingredient's success, and Rillaboom serves as an offensive bait to lure Steel-types through U-turn. Finally, Moltres serves as a defensive Pokemon capable of defogging hazards away while at the same time granting an immunity to Volt Switch by virtue of Scorching Sands in its first slot.

Four Pokemon is featured for this team's secret ingredient: first being Blissey as a Calm Mind attacker, second is Azelf as a near all-out attacker with Thunder Wave to disrupt opponents, Jolteon as a Choice Specs attacker and pivot with Yawn as another disrupting move, and Avalugg as a physically defensive stalwart doubling as a physical attacker by virtue of Body Press. Swampert and Scizor provide the team's momentum by virtue of Flip Turn and U-turn, respectively, and fill in as a specially defensive Pokemon to make up for the team's physically defensive biases.

The focal point for this team's four-Pokemon secret ingredient is Fire/Fighting Calm Mind Zoroark to deal massive damage to almost every Steel-type Pokemon while disguising as Necrozma, another Calm Mind user that serves as an actual win condition with Steel Pokemon out of the equation. Haxorus adds another layer of offensive pressure by virtue of Choice Band, and Clefable completes the secret ingredient and serves as a defensive Pokemon giving cleric duties through Aromatherapy and providing Stealth Rock and as a back-up illusory disguise for Zoroark that opponents could think Clefable is actually the Calm Mind user. Articuno completes the Dragon/Fairy/Steel defensive core and also generates momentum for the team by virtue of U-turn. Finally, Heracross completes the offensive breaking potential of the team's secret ingredient.

. . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community (including fellow participants and Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Functionality. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:
CREATIVITY: Team 2, Team 1
ESSENCE: Team 1, Team 3
FUNCTIONALITY: Team 5, Team 4

If you elect to put in the reasoning behind those votes (which the Chairman encourages but people may not opt to), please refer to this:
CREATIVITY:
1. Team 2 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 1 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 1 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 5 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its functionality quite well!
2. Team 4 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
. . . . . . . . . .

EXPLOSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN

From this episode forward, I am going to introduce to the Other Metagames Community a mini-game that could entice people to vote as well (however, this is where Iron Chefs and fellow participants [and of course, Panel of Judges] are not allowed to partake in this mini-game). People may now include in their voting post in this thread on which among the participants built which team. Here will be the template:

Episode 3 guesses:

Team 1 - sandragon13
Team 2 - Euphonos
Team 3 - Dr. PhD. BJ
Team 4 - Osake
Team 5 - The Number Man
Note that the quote above contains already the list of participants for this episode.

The voter who gets the most accurate predictions over the course of the entire season will have his name etched in the Hall of Fame for bragging rights. (If this project gets well-received, I might provide a monetary / in-kind prize for the succeeding seasons moving forward.)
. . . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community has until
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 7:30 AM EST
to cast a vote on this thread who has
the most original,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever put up this episode, and to guess which team belongs to which participant.

ESSENCE:

1. Team 2
2. Team 5

FUNCTIONALITY:

1. Team 2
2. Team 3

Episode 3 guesses:

Team 1 - Osake
Team 2 - Euphonos
Team 3 - The Number Man
Team 4 - sandragon13
Team 5 - Dr. PhD. BJ

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1, Flam Orb Unaware Clef to be immune to Toxic while winning against other CM setup, what a strat! Azelf is a cool mon whose place is hard to determine due to its low usage. Double Elec/Fire core.
2. Team 5, Zoroark is fun and CM to really lure a CM Necrozma is definitely something. Articuno is another non-common mon while being bad generally due to its passivity. Haxorus is also quite rare in non-ladd games lol.

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3, abuses from 4 mons with initially a single typing and really make them the center of the team based on Magnezene ability to trap Steels
2. Team 5, the strat based on Zoroark is fun and this team also abuses from 4 mons with a single typing initially.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 2, while I'm not convinced by Luxray and Grass/Fairy Xurkitree, the team looks decent with a nice defensive core
2. Team 3, seems good and taking well the meta into account

Episode 3 guesses:

Team 1 - Osake, Deduction at the end :psysly:
Team 2 - Dr. PhD. BJ, Good understanding of the meta generally means good build
Team 3 - The Number Man, Magnezone clause
Team 4 - sandragon13, Original but not viable at all
Team 5 - Euphonos, Zoroark clause

Btw we can remark the superiority of the teams featuring CM compared to the other... I say that... I say nothing...

EDIT (which is not an edit because I haven't posted yet lol): In fact all teams feature CM LOL. Gz to everybody to knowing the way to win in Camo!

TIME IS UP!
While the Panel of Judges are finalizing the scores (which will be revealed real soon), the Chairman has now revealed the secret ingredient for the fourth episode of Iron Chef! Now lift the domes!

INFINITE ARMOR!

Infinite Armor is found in one of the most popular anime series: Naruto. It is a chest plate with the shape of a tiger's face with the ability to take almost all of the damage in a fall and draw out and, at an alarming rate, absorb the chakra of anyone or anything that comes into contact with it.

So, in relation to this secret ingredient, aspiring participants must build a team featuring at least three Pokemon with abilities that take no damage from certain types, moves or attacks.

Here are the abilities that you can choose from: Flash Fire, Water Absorb, Storm Drain, Dry Skin, Lightning Rod, Motor Drive, Volt Absorb, Levitate, Sap Sipper, Soundproof, Bulletproof.

Aspiring participants have until
SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 7:30 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to Chairman Euphonos through the Conversation section of the Forums.

Please read how to submit your team here! | Feel free to talk Iron Chef-related stuff in this Discord server!

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the delay, but now is the time for Episode 3's big reveal!

This team belongs to Osake.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While the focal point for the team's creativity is the Normal/Ghost Unaware Clefable with Flame Orb, Azelf and Buzzwole not being used as much as the others give this team a rather reasonable score in this criterion. The rest of the team employs rather highly viable Pokemon and rather standard sets that the team isn't exactly groundbreaking for that criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The Pokemon used as the secret ingredient are actually proficient at what they do, and the chosen partners actually provide ample amount of support for each other; not to mention that the Fire/Electric spam from Azelf + Victini looks really interesting apart from the Calm Mind Clefable being the focal point for the team's success.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6 / 10
The direction for this team is actually there; however, the team lacks some form of early/mid-game wall-breaking potential to a point that Buzzwole could've been replaced with someone like Landorus-Therian filling that same type combination. Speaking of Landorus-Therian, that Pokemon could also provide a more reliable form of hazard control in Defog since Court Change isn't exactly reliable when opposing hazard setters are still alive. Other than that, the team looks incredibly annoying to deal with.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS

WIN vs. Mossy Sandwich
LOSS vs. PandaDoux

This team belongs to Dr. Phd. BJ.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
The team's selling point for creativity are Guts Luxray (which is definitely something that has never done before) and Xurkitree (well, if you don't count the Chairman using that Pokemon last episode, it'd be the first time as well); otherwise, the rest of the team employs highly viable Pokemon and sets that have been explored by many.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
While the vision on how this team works looks cool, especially you have three (and a half) Pokemon as secret ingredient that fill their roles exceptionally well, what holds back from granting a considerably high score in this criterion is that Heracross would've fulfilled the role better over Luxray: while Luxray has the ability to pivot through Volt Switch which definitely carves a niche, Heracross possesses much better Attack and Speed stats, thus providing a much better wall breaking potential.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6.5 / 10
The team concept really is cool with spamming Grass attacks (and utilizing Grassy Terrain to that extent) and exerting pressure on teams, plus providing longevity to Guts Pokemon through Grassy Terrain to some extent as well. However, what holds back to providing a higher score than intended in this criterion is the struggles the team has in dealing with other Calm Mind Pokemon, which the team has to rely on Heatran vs. slower ones, or Necrozma to keep up with the Calm Mind war. Other than those key flaws, this team definitely highlights how to exert offensive pressure to most teams, one of the things needed for a bulky offense archetype.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. Mossy Sandwich

This team belongs to Iron Chef The Number Man.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
There's Snorlax and Moltres, two of the Pokemon that haven't been used for quite some time, plus there's the presence of Magnezone and Alakazam, being a rising trend given today's metagame changes. What holds back from making this higher is Rillaboom and Cresselia employing standard sets, which is definitely a fair trade-off.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
Magnezone singlehandedly binding the late-game potentials of Cresselia and Snorlax (and Alakazam to some degree) is really amazing, with Rillaboom and Moltres providing some key moves to support the secret ingredient core. Hands down one of the most well-thought-out teams for this episode.

FUNCTIONALITY: 7.5 / 10
The team looks incredibly effective at what it does, and this is reflective on the team's vision and the execution of the team's secret ingredient. If there were some key flaws, it would be to tread carefully against Haxorus (which is about to rise in trends) and Zygarde-10% (which is not exactly as common); some considerations include the optimization of the Magnezone spread even despite some Speed issues, the inclusion of another pivot, most likely from Moltres by putting U-turn over Toxic to generate more momentum. Other than that, this is definitely one of the most solid teams using a rather simple premise.

TOTAL SCORE: 16 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. PandaDoux

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
Definitely staying with the more experimental route using a lot of underrated picks that Blissey and Scizor are the most commonly used - yet they're still using a set different from what's standard.

ESSENCE: 1.5 / 5
While the team uses four Pokemon for a secret ingredient, which is actually getting the extra mile, the biggest issue with the team here is there are so many wasted opportunities the team could have. For example, why the need to use Blissey when Clefable is a better option while maintaining the quota for the secret ingredient, the lack of Nasty Plot on Azelf, and Avalugg could've been much better with a Poison/Fighting combination instead of Steel/Fighting - something Stakataka would actually do better. Essentially (no pun intended), this needs a lot of work.

FUNCTIONALITY: 2 / 10
It is somehow reflective to the Essence criterion by virtue of wasted opportunities. There's opportunities in putting Swords Dance (over U-turn) on Scizor and Nasty Plot (over Thunder Wave) on Azelf, among those things. However, there is a glimmer of potential this team can have, as long as there is some form of metagame trend incorporated into the team, albeit it's still a lot of work. Valiant effort on that one, though!

TOTAL SCORE: 7.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. Euphonos [contingent]

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. This is one of the placeholder teams; as such, any result will not count towards the Iron Chefs' overall win/loss record.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
The team has so many interesting things going on despite some choice of rather highly viable Pokemon. This includes Haxorus, which is an interesting breaker that hasn't seen much use lately; Zoroark with Calm Mind while playing deep into the Illusion role pairing with an unusual Cleric Grass/Fairy Clefable and Dragon/Poison Necrozma; finally, the Articuno is something only you could harness and no one else would actually try using. Apart from the choice of highly viable Pokemon that somehow held back from getting the perfect score, Heracross donning the rather standard Guts set also prevented that from doing so; however, it is still a solid showing for this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
Using four Pokemon serving as the team's secret ingredient is getting the extra mile, but this team has the synergy to the point that it really has a very concrete game plan and the vision on how the team works is top notch. The four Pokemon used as the secret ingredient seems to make a nice offensive core that both hits hard and can take on opposing set-up attackers. Apparently, the Articuno being out of place from the team's vision holds it back from garnering a perfect score in this criterion, but still a great showing.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5.5 / 10
The Calm Mind Zoroark lure is actually cool on paper, but Focus Blast as a main STAB option seems really risky and it's unsure how much time Illusion buys it to gain bulk. Articuno seems out of place on this team and its passive nature looks to be a big drag outside of U-turn. Dragon/Poison Necrozma with Calm Mind is an interesting set but it is better suited with a Steel-type STAB that has no types immune to it rather than being completely walled by most Pokemon donning the Fairy typing. That said, however, this team shows one of the multiple ways on how to use Zoroark in the Camomons metagame, and it really is a joy that the potential of the team with that featured Pokemon is actually there.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. PandaDoux

With that, the winner for this episode who actually got them all right in the guessing mini-game is no other than Siamato! Congratulations!

TIME IS UP!
Whoops, apologies for the delay! Voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

Due to Heatran being one of the most sought-after Pokemon for a secret ingredient, the team tries to break the norm and ended up with Volcanion, Kommo-o, and Cresselia as the chosen Pokemon: Volcanion blocking Water attacks with ease, Kommo-o blocking Shadow Ball that could potentially be weak to thanks to Bulletproof and one of the unorthodox Dragon Dance users, and Cresselia as one of the most sought-after Calm Mind users. Articuno and Garchomp serves as the rather unorthodox defensive core for this team while providing utility like Defog (and Heal Bell to some extent) and Stealth Rock, respectively. Finally, Cinderace serves as the team's speed control with Choice Scarf and provides some form of momentum to the team.

Two of the metagame staples Heatran and Cresselia sprung into mind as the main components for this team's secret ingredient due to their Flash Fire and Levitate abilities, respectively. Heatran provides key support options while deterring set-up through Roar; Cresselia serves as a bulky set-up attacker, which is then coupled by Kommo-o as the secret ingredient's final piece, serving as a specially offensive attacker through Clangorous Soul. Dragapult serves as the team's speed control and pivot; Landorus-Therian serves as the team's hazard control and physical wall breaker; Lycanroc-Dusk provides another wall breaking power through Tough Claws-boosted attacks with a priority move Sucker Punch.

Uxie and Cresselia serve as the main Trick Room setters, and the main components for the team's secret ingredient. Complementing these two Pokemon is Porygon2, who can also set up Trick Room and provide momentum through Teleport. Marowak-Alola completes the final piece for this team's secret ingredient thanks to Lightning Rod, and serves as one of the physical wall breakers with Swords Dance. Conkeldurr complements Marowak-Alola's wall breaking capabilities through Guts-boosted attacks. Finally, Torkoal's selling point is sun-boosted Eruption and Weather Ball, especially when paired with Trick Room, it will be a deadly sight to behold.

The team is built around Spikes and exerting a lot of pressure through adding Taunt on two Pokemon, the main components for this team's secret ingredient: Heatran and Thundurus-Therian. Heatran attempts to lure Water-types through Solar Beam, while Thundurus-Therian serves as a late-game attacker through Taunt + Nasty Plot. Completing the pieces for this team's secret ingredient is Cresselia, who serves as a disruptor to most Calm Mind users through Trick + Choice Scarf. Ferrothorn is the focal point for this team as it sets up Spikes, and it serves as an additional Calm Mind check. Blissey serves as a blanket special wall against the likes of Special Dragapult. Finally, Moltres serves as this team's physical wall, compressing both a Melmetal check, a secondary Rillaboom check, and a defogger that can actually deal with opposing Steel types.

Chandelure, Rotom-Heat, and Maractus comprised the main components for this team's secret ingredient. They cover immunities that they are supposed to be weak against, like Chandelure providing the Fire immunity through Flash Fire Rotom-Heat providing the Ground immunity through Levitate, and Maractus providing the Water immunity through Storm Drain. Magnezone serves as the team's disruptor of sorts with Psych Up to copy boosts; Life Orb Haxorus serving as an all-out physical attacker providing wall breaking power; finally, Terrakion serves as the main sweeper of the team with Swords Dance.

. . . . . . . .

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 5: Maractus + Magnezone + Rotom HEAT, very hot team
2. Team 4: Tauntspam + Spikestack, feat. Thundy also very hot

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3: I like the use of the secret ingredients cconstraints to create a nice TR team.
2. Team 4: This one also uses the secret ingredient to build a team with a cohesive gameplan.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 2: This looks like a standard team, you wouldn't even realise it was built under any specific constraints if you saw this team outside of the context of IC. Very good team
2. Team 1: I wonder who built this :blobthinking:. Jokes aside, this looks pretty standard for the player who built it and seems pretty solid.

OUTSPOKENNESS!

Monday is Martain Luther King Jr. Day in the United States. For those who do not know him, he was an outspoken defender of Civil Rights in the United States, protesting segregation and racial injustice through non-violent tactics. This would culminate in him leading the March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

To continue the theme of outspokenness, aspiring participants must build a team featuring at least three different Pokemon having at least one Sound based move in their moveset. You may find the full list
here, but some suggestions include Boomburst, Bug Buzz, Parting Shot, and Heal Bell.

Participants have until
SATURDAY, JANUARY 15, 9:30 AM EST

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the delay, but now is the time for Episode 4's big reveal!

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. This is one of the placeholder teams; as such, any result will not count towards the Iron Chefs' overall win/loss record.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
It is a huge surprise no one actually took advantage of Volcanion when it is definitely one of the most solid Pokemon in the Camomons metagame. The unorthodox defensive core from Articuno (definitely expected) and Garchomp (not expected to be Specially Defensive), and even a Steel/Ghost Kommo-o really takes this team to a considerably high rating for creativity. Cinderace being a little more commonplace and Cresselia being one of the rising trends actually somehow held back to garnering a score higher than expected.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
Definitely another solid showing here especially with Volcanion, Cresselia, and Kommo-o being proficient at what they do, and their abilities prevent something they're supposed to be weak to given the Camomons modifications. What holds it back from garnering a perfect score in this criterion, however, is not in the matter of type combinations, which is definitely an excelling point for this team, but a matter of roles some of the supporting Pokemon needs to have for the team to succeed.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5 / 10
The team looks really solid on paper; however, there are some key flaws that make it unable to succeed farther than it should be. The lack of a bulky pivot really is not ideal and the lack of wall breaking potential is also noticeable without Choice Band / Choice Specs; thus the direction isn't exactly as clear. Not to mention that most of your key Pokemon gets worn down by Substitute and they don't have other forms of recovery apart from Leftovers, as such, it really gets tougher to get them multiple opportunities to do damage effectively without having a pivot to bring them in safely.

LOSS
vs. The Number Man (replay not saved)

This team belongs to UT.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team looked really standard in the first place, apart from Cresselia and Lycanroc-Dusk being quite uncommon, as the sets employed for those Pokemon are commonplace outside of the Kommo-o set that was at one time common and also an attractive set for beginner-level players.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
Despite the team being one of the highly standard teams, it doesn't mean the team is not viable, which is actually a good thing. The secret ingredient used for the team has rather solid choices and has a rather straightforward game plan, although the choice of Bulletproof on Kommo-o looked really odd when Soundproof would have been a much better option to primarily deal with Roar users.

FUNCTIONALITY: 7 / 10
This is definitely one of the teams that is a textbook bulky offense classic which showcases almost all, if not all, of the tools needed to have a successful team of that archetype. The pivoting Landorus-Therian and Dragapult are actually really solid for the win conditions Kommo-o, Cresselia, and notably Lycanroc-Dusk to shine with the right opportunities. Probably to add another layer of pressure for that team is to replace Roar with Taunt on Heatran to prevent other Pokemon setting up on the team; otherwise, this is a team solid enough to warrant a considerably high rating for this criterion.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

LOSS vs. The Number Man
LOSS vs. PandaDoux

This team belongs to Clasmia.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Trick Room isn't used a lot, so it is actually neat to see a team devoted to this. So there's Cresselia, Uxie, and Porygon2 being the staples for Trick Room, and then Choice Specs Torkoal is certainly a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. Other than that, the choices for the rest of them looked standard at first glance.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
Cresselia and Uxie being Trick Room staples are the focal point for this team to support the rest of the offensive abusers, which is actually fine. However, Cresselia looks fine for a secret ingredient point of view; however, Uxie doubles down on a Ground immunity provided by Levitate when there's a Pokemon like Jellicent (or even Mesprit) who can provide a different immunity through a different ability, has longevity thanks to Recover, or has something to disrupt other setters with Taunt as well. Finally, with Marowak-Alola having Lightning Rod looked like it is for the sake of fulfilling the secret ingredient rather than making it integral to the spirit of the secret ingredient.

FUNCTIONALITY: 4 / 10
While the offensive core looks really scary, it must be in lots of ideal situations in order for it to succeed. Two-thirds of the team is worn down by Stealth Rock and the team offers no hazard removal support. As a Trick Room team, this one goes too heavy into Trick Room setters with three, two of which are almost always one-time thanks to Memento from Uxie and Lunar Dance from Cresselia. Speaking of Lunar Dance, it could provide the team a second wind, but outside of Conkeldurr, the effectiveness without Trick Room being up doesn't translate that much to its success, as such being situational at best. Still a valiant effort in putting up a rather interesting Trick Room team!

TOTAL SCORE: 9 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

WIN vs. Mossy Sandwich

This team belongs to Iron Chef anaconja. However, with him not being able to engage in the contingent Iron Chef match even during Phase 3, the team may still receive rates from the judges, but is not eligible to receive any awards.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
The presence of Power Herb Heatran, Thundurus-Therian, Ferrothorn, and Moltres being not-so-common options deserve a really high rating in this criterion. Cresselia being a rising trend and Blissey employing the most common set holds it back from garnering a score higher than expected.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
All the boxes for the secret ingredient are ticked, but Heatran's sought-after Flash Fire ability seems redundant with a Fire/Ground type combination. While the lure for Water-types through Solar Beam is actually nice, it would've worked better with a Grass/Ground type combination to take advantage of Flash Fire much better, and with that type combination it could take Moltres a better type combination without having to resort to running Steel Wing.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5 / 10
The team actually looked cool on paper especially with a cool game plan through all the lures going on, though it may actually look too much that it might fail to lure some of the key Pokemon, such as Water/Flying shenanigans that could take Heatran's Solar Beam reliably, or Steel/Ground Heatran reliably taking on that Moltres set. Speaking of Moltres, it's actually too passive and doesn't offer the team some much needed momentum especially for a Spikes-heavy team.

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
With the exception of Haxorus, all Pokemon choices in the team look crazy, not to mention the Magnezone having Psych Up instead of Iron Defense taking the cake for a high rating in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 1.5 / 5
While the use of the secret ingredient look promising on paper (especially on Chandelure and Rotom-Heat), the choice of sets sadly hampered their actual potentials; not to mention Maractus is trying too hard especially when there's Volcanion who performs the role much better.

FUNCTIONALITY: 1.5 / 10
The team has some promising Pokemon like Terrakion who could potentially put up a sweep; however, most sets employed here don't work at all. For example, it would've been nice to have Chandelure with Choice Scarf instead of Air Balloon when the latter was featured in the paste; Magnezone would've preferred using its standard Air Balloon + Magnet Pull variation (note that battling Iron Chefs do not use the secret ingredient upon battling!), and Maractus would've been swapped with Volcanion as it performs the role of a Water Absorber much better while providing really high firepower. There's still promise, but again, it still needs work.

TOTAL SCORE: 7.5 / 20

ADDITIONAL ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Before I leave everything to the Interim Chairman for this episode, I have a surprise for everyone!

So, it has come to my attention that Iron Chef anaconja has not engaged in any Iron Chef battles since the beginning of this project, as such I have no other choice but to bring someone in his place to inject more varied activity into the project. With that, it is with great joy to introduce to you:

Iron Chef Siamato!

His work as an Iron Chef will start effective Phase 2 of Episode 5. Good luck!

TIME IS UP!
Voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

This team turns to two strong Fairy types as the basis of its secret ingredient. Between Sylveon's Pixilate Hyper Voice and Primarina's Sparkling Aria, this team is very outspoken. Marowak-Alola is the third slow-but-dangerous attacker with a dangerous and high-powered STAB combination. Vikavolt serves to enable these slow breakers by setting up Sticky Web, turning the table on faster teams. Rounding out the team, Buzzwole functions as a bulky attacker and Unburden Sceptile makes for a speedy wincon; with Roar, it is also the last component of the secret ingredient.

This team makes excellent use of the secret ingredient in its defensive core. Heatran is a particularly spicy component; Metal Sound and Taunt, in conjunction with Magma Storm, allow to to excellently trap and remove problematic special walls from the opponent's team. Garchomp and Salamence both utilize Roar to deter opposing set up and inflict extra hazard damage, while also being able to inflict status on their foes. Coalossal rounds out the defensive backbone of the team providing Spikes and Rapid Spin, which accent the phazing moves nicely. Hex Dragapult serves as speed control and sweeping, being able to inflict status itself as well. Thundurus-Therian rounds out the team with powerful breaking potential.

Boomburst Kommo-o and Parting Shot Pangoro are clear choices for this team's secret ingredient. It is hard to pass up one of the strongest moves in the game, especially on a boosting sweeper like Kommo-o, and pivoting on a strong breaker like Pangoro will always be appreciated. Heatran rounds out the secret ingredient by adding its set-up-deterring Roar to the mix; it also serves as a reliable hazard setter. Rillaboom threatens strong priority while also providing extra recovery to teammates, while Salamence once again serves as a sturdy, hazard-clearing wall. Thundurus-Therian finishes out the team with powerful special attacks and pivoting.

Exploud was the obvious inclusion for the secret ingredient with its access to Boomburst. Zoroark is another interesting addition, especially with Illusion and three immunities providing it many opportunities for mind games. To add a physical component to the core, Pangoro was selected, allowing it to both fire off strong attacks and pivot when needed. The defensive backbone includes stalwarts like Unaware Clefable and Bulk Up Buzzwole who can take plenty of hits. Landorus-T rounds out the team with Stealth Rock, pivoting, and the ever-useful Knock Off to remove items.

Noivern and Porygon-Z, with their powerful Boomburst and Uproar, are the focal points for this team and utilize the secret ingredient to great success. Noivern also carries a Ring Target to Switcheroo onto any unsuspecting Ghost types, making them vulnerable to Boomburst. They both struggle to handle Steels, which is remedied by the inclusion of Magnezone. To improve Magnezone's effectiveness, Obstagoon acts as a lure to draw them in and pivot with Parting Shot. Specially Defensive Corviknight with U-turn also makes a good partner Magnezone, providing another potential pivot for it. Finally, Necrozma is the glue of the team with its tried-and-tested Dragon/Fairy combination, allowing to dish out numerous attacks while recovering damage with Moonlight.

This team provides a unique spin on the secret ingredient by pairing it with Doom Desire Jirachi. Perrserker is an obvious choice, allowing for Steely Spirit boosted hits, and also can further strengthen the hits with Metal Sound. Avalugg abuses Doom Desire instead by Roaring away the intended switch in for something random, and possibly weak. The final componenet of the secret ingredient is Clanging Scales Kommo-o, who also is equiped with Stealth Rock to further punish switches. Salamence provides additional phazing and physical walling, while Flygon provides privoting and reliable damage.

. . . . . . . .

2. Team 4 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
. . . . . . . . .

Interested voters (except Iron Chefs and fellow participants) may also include in their voting post in this thread on which among the participants built which team. Here will be the template:

Episode 5 guesses [Euphonos, Clasmia, DuckeryDoodle, longhiep341, ponchlake, sandragon13]:

Team 1 -
Team 2 -
Team 3 -
Team 4 -
Team 5 -
Team 6 -
Note that the quote above contains already the list of participants for this episode.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 9:30 AM EST
to cast a vote on this thread who has
the most original,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever put up this episode, and to guess which team belongs to which participant.
