Simisear is a powerhouse of a wallbreaker in PU. With a strong Flamethrower, Simisear can find itself 2HKOing even Pokemon that resist Fire-type attacks such as Swanna. Simisear even has a great Speed at base 101, outspeeding the vast majority of Pokemon in the format. However, Simisear's lack of good coverage options leaves it vulnerable to being walled, and Simisear's general lack of bulk and weakness to Stealth Rock means that it can get worn down quickly.

Flamethrower is the go-to STAB option that can 2HKO a surprising amount of offensive Pokemon, like Swanna, with the help of Choice Specs. Focus Blast is coverage for choice specially-defensive walls such as Zweilous. Hidden Power Electric is for hitting most Pokemon that resist Fire-type moves, such as Frillish and Tentacool, for good damage. Overheat is the last option primarily because Simisear does not have much more meaningful coverage so Overheat works as a last-resort nuke for more damage. Choice Scarf is also an excellent choice since Simisear outspeeds all other common revenge killers with it but becomes easier to wall as a result.
Simisear doesn't have much in the way of bulk or defensive synergy, so Pokemon such as Klang or Jumpluff that can bring Simisear in safely via Volt Switch or U-Turn are valuable partners. Simisear also loves entry hazards from partners such as Bronzor or Dwebble to help wear down walls. Simisear is also excellent for wearing down certain walls such as Stunfisk, Bronzor, or Vileplume, so teammates such as Zebstrika, Torterra, and Golduck appreciate Simisear's wallbreaking. Simisear also sometimes struggles to get past certain threats like Tentacool or Grumpig, so partners like Zebstrika or Shiftry can be excellent choices for offensive synergy.

Nasty Plot doubles Simisear's SpAtk, letting it crush walls like Audino cleanly. Substitute buys Simisear a turn to set up while giving immunity to status moves like Thunder Wave, and Flamethrower and Focus Blast are chosen for their near-perfect coverage in PU. Salac Berry is chosen as the go-to item for giving a Speed boost after two Substitutes for a potential sweep, and this is possible thanks to Gluttony activating the berry at 50%. The 4 EVs into HP are important in order to have Simisear's HP divisible by 4, which lets two Substitute uses (or one Substitute after Stealth Rock) leave Simisear at exactly 50% for Salac Berry activation. Life Orb is also a good option for even more power, but then the Ability should be changed to Blaze as Gluttony loses its use.
Simisear, ideally, activates Salac Berry after using Nasty Plot and still behind a Substitute in order to make for a difficult-to-contest sweep. In order to make this happen, partners such as Zebstrika or Natu are key for their ability to bring in Simisear safely with Volt Switch or U-Turn. Simisear also forces many switches, which gives plenty of opportunities to set up Substitute but also racks up entry hazard damage from partners like Rampardos or Maractus. Simisear's two sets have very similar team recommendations, but the Nasty Plot set has easier times getting around certain counters like Frillish that the Specs set can struggle on, but then the Nasty Plot set is easier to check by certain threats like Rapidash. In that sense, Nasty Plot Simisear loves faster sweepers like Zebstrika or Shell Smash Huntail that can both threaten those checks and better use the holes it creates.
