Encore is vital because it can lock foes into Defog or a stat-boosting move, such as Corviknight, Zapdos, Rillaboom, and Mega Garchomp, allowing Shuckle to more easily set up hazards while also making it easy for its teammates to revenge kill them. Mental Herb is the item of choice for Shuckle to securely set up at least one hazard, as it is very susceptible to Taunt from Pokemon such as Grimmsnarl, Tapu Koko, and Mew; however, that can be replaced with Red Card, which can force out strong attackers and disrupt U-turn and Volt Switch from Pokemon such as Tapu Koko, Rillaboom, and Landorus-T. Bisharp is an essential teammate for Shuckle, as Defiant helps it easily deter Defoggers such as Corviknight and Zapdos, and it's a very threatening wallbreaker and setup sweeper. Serperior's Contrary also pressures Defog. Shuckle's Sticky Web support heavily supports a multitude of slow yet powerful wallbreakers, such as Thundurus-T, Mega Scizor, and Mega Heracross.
