Shinx (Analysis) OVERTAKEN BY metsrule158

(This is my first analysis so help me out a bit)

Shinx

Type:

Ability: Rivalry, Intimidate, Guts (Dream World)
Stats:

HP 45
Attack 65
Defense 34
Sp. Attack 40
Sp. Defense 34
Speed 45

[OVERVIEW]

Not a lot changed for Shinx this generation, except that it got its Dream World ability Guts which boosts its attack by 50% when Burned, Paralyzed or Poisoned and its great new STAB Wild Charge which doesn't force it to use Spark or Thunder Fang. Guts can be used without losing much from Gen IV as the only major downside is that it loses Iron Tail. As it is mono-Electric typing it only has one weakness to ground which can be cleared up by Magnet rise which is available from the Dream World this Generation.
It has access to Fire Fang, Wild Charge, Ice Fang and Crunch for great coverage against: Bug, Grass, Ice, Steel, Flying, Water, Ground, Dragon, Ghost and Psychic. In total 10 types. I always loved Shinx's evolutionary line and that just got better this Generation with Guts and Wild Charge.

[SET]

Name: Guts
Move 1 Facade
Move 2 Wild Charge
Move 3 Ice Fang / Crunch
Move 4 Fire Fang / Crunch
Item: Toxic Orb / Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 236 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Shinx's best set with a Jolly nature reaching a high speed and with Guts and Facade it packs quite a punch. Ice Fang is nice here countering Gligar who resists Shinx's other moves and would OKHO it with Earthquake. Fire Fang is also good here hitting Steel-types and Grass-types. Wild Charge is for STAB and Water-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

On this set Shinx would get 16 Attack at Lvl 5, boosted with guts makes it go up to 24 Attack, using Wild Charge STAB makes its Base Power go up to 135. So when faced with a Pokemon that is neutral to Wild Charge and Facade, Facade is the better option due to having no recoil and 5 more Base Power. Its Speed stat goes up to 15 at Lvl 5 outspeeding some Pokemon but not all.

[Other Options]

The only other option is to switch Ice Fang and Fire Fang for Double Kick, Crunch or Quick Attack but Fire Fang and Ice Fang are the preferred choice here.

[Checks and Counters] (Credit to Darkamber8828)

-Gligar can switch-in on all Shinx's moves except Ice Fang and KO it with Earthquake.
-Hippopotas can withstand a Facade and KO with Earthquake
-Choice Scarf Snover can switch-in on Wild Charge and then Blizzard it
-Choice Scarf Chinchou can come in on Wild Charge then use Hydro Pump
-Almost any Choice Scarf or priority Pokemon can kill it, due to its really bad defenses

You don't need a DW Section if the ability's been released.

Your evs are wrong, little cup evs do not work that way. 236 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 236 Spe.

Gligar switches in on anything but Ice Fang and kills it with Earthquake, since it's faster.

Hippopotas tanks a Facade (more bp than Ice Fang) and kills it with Earthquake.

Scarf Snover comes in on a Wild Charge and Blizzards it.

Scarf Chinchou comes in on a Wild Charge or Fang and Hydro Pumps it.

Lots of Scarfers can kill it, with its terrible defenses.

Shinx is venerable to priority users like Croagunk, Timburr, and Meditite.

Mention Trick Room support in OC, Shinx reaches 8 speed minimum, which is pretty good, and you don't have to worry about revenging. AC mentions of Trick Room supporters, like Bronzor and Slowpoke. Bronzor is immune to Ground and has SR, and Slowpoke Toxics walls and lures Electric attacks to switch in on.

In addition, Shinx likes spikes to get KOs. Shelmet resists Ground for it, and while Ferroseed doesn't, it has Bullet Seed to kill Ground-types, and learns Stealth Rock as well.

Shinx can also run a defensive set with Intimidate and Thunder Wave, but...it's pretty meh, with Shinx's incredible defensive typing.

Shinx gets Howl, which could work. Maybe.

Also Magnet Rise.

And Crunch.

And Volt Switch, which can be useful for activating orbs and stuff.

Speaking of that, make Toxic Orb the first option. It takes three turns to break even with Flame Orb, and Shinx is not living that long.

Shinx can run a mixed set, but it lacks the power to punch through Eviolite'd pokemons' defenses.

Also, Thunder Fang is an option if you dislike accuracy, but it has really terrible base power.

Thanks i'll switch all my mentions of Night Slash with Crunch and I'll do another set. This was very helpful

Don't disturb him on his break.

You might consider making a Choice Scarf set. With the given EVs, Shinx will be able to hit at least 14 speed, which as many people know, makes it a viable Pokemon to hold it as it outspeeds all non-choice scarfed pokemon.

You actually only need 2 QC stamps in Little Cup instead of 3.

Oh and if you want to mention a non-recoil STAB I'd mention Spark instead of Thunder Fang. Perfect accuracy and higher paralysis chance in exchange for no flinch chance.

Choice Scarf is a better set IMO since it can actually outspeed things and absorb status with Guts.

Relying on opposing pokemon for Guts, which is basically why Shinx exists, is a bad idea. Mention Scarf in OO.

You sort of forgot this part. This stuff goes in Other Options.

You sort of forgot this part too. This part goes in Additional Comments.

Don't use first-person like you do in the Overview, it's not formal enough. The last paragraph can really just be replaced with "it gets coverage on 10 types." Mention it's also okay-fast, but not fast enough to sweep very well.

I will add to this thread later and will finish it next week, mainly because of my exams. Anyway thanks for all the help! :)

Mention that Diglett outspeeds, Traps and OHKO's with EQ

It gets Volt Switch, even though its special you can still mention it in OO

Quick Attack is good enough to be mentioned outside OO to me.
