SM OU Regenerator Stall - High ELO - Suitable for OLT

Hello, everyone.

Today, I wish to present the stall team that I have built. It is a stall team that is very successful on the ladder. It can also hold its own against tournament players, as evidenced by the replays at the bottom of this post.

* Building process *

- I made a list of all viable stall Pokémon.
- I made a list of the Pokémon that are viable in the OU metagame.
- I attempted to cover as many threats as possible.

* The team *

186978

* Importable *

* Details *

Sableye (M) @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Protect

Mega Sableye provides immaculate hazard prevention in a lot of matchups and makes any stall team a lot easier to pilot.
Knock Off is valuable in a war of attrition as it gets rid of many held items.
Will-O-Wisp provides burns. In some matchups (like when the opponent has Mold Breaker Excadrill) I can make use of Prankster and force out physical attackers that obviously don't want to have their attack halved.
Recover is a standard form of recovery.
Protect allows Sableye to Mega Evolve safely and it also allows me to scout which is especially useful in the matchup against a choiced Tapu Lele.
I have chosen to stick with the standard EV spread.

Toxapex (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Haze
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic

A Pokémon with the ability Regenerator that also has Haze is a solid pick for a stall team.
Having a Haze user alongside an Unaware user on stall is an absolute blessing. Toxapex is very bulky so it is a consistent user of the move.
Scald allows Toxapex to fish for burns and deters many physical attackers from switching in.
Recover is a standard form of recovery.
I vastly prefer Toxic over Toxic Spikes because Toxic Spikes are easier to get rid of and Toxic Spikes doesn't help me with threats that aren't grounded (like Mega Pinsir)
I am using the physical defense-inclined spread from the analysis as Ash-Greninja is already covered by Chansey.

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic
- Seismic Toss

Chansey's bulk means that it's hard to overlook when building stall.
Stealth Rock is a mandatory hazard. Especially on stall as stall has the gameplan to outlast the opponent and win by means of residual damage.
Soft-Boiled is a standard recovery move for Chansey.
Toxic badly poisons the threats that Chansey is supposed to handle and deals with them in an adequate fashion.
Seismic Toss is also a standard move on Chansey and provides fixed damage which is useful.
Chansey does not allow customization of the EV spread.

Clefable (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell

A Pokémon with the ability Unaware is vital on stall teams.
Moonblast is Clefable's main STAB move that can put a decent amount of pressure. In addition, the special attack drops on opposing Pokémon are appreciated by Clefable's teammates.
Wish replenishes the health of Clefable as well as that of its teammates, which is useful on stall.
Protect synergizes with Wish, allows Clefable to scout and gain an extra turn of Leftovers recovery.
Heal Bell gets rid of status ailments which increases the team's longevity.

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 52 Def / 76 SpD / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Defog
- Roost
- Toxic

Gliscor is a solid Defog user that helps the team with the Heatran matchup.
It is also good at getting a Toxic on the opponent's main threat and Poison Heal ensures that Gliscor will be around for a while.
Earthquake is Gliscor's main attacking move which obviously one-shots Heatran outside of Grassy Terrain.
Earthquake also pressures threats to stall like Magearna, Mega-Mawile and Bisharp.
Defog is a stall team's means of hazard removal.
Roost provides standard recovery for the bat.
Toxic reduces the longevity of the opponent's threats that take damage from being badly poisoned.

Tangrowth (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Tangrowth forms a great Regenerator core with Toxapex. Tangrowth deals with the physical attackers found on rain teams such as Mega Swampert. Tangrowth also deals well with Tapu Bulu and Kartana.
The item of choice is Rocky Helmet to chip threats such as Mega Mawile and Mega Medicham.
Giga Drain gets rid of the physical attacker(s) on rain, aside from that it is a decent STAB move.
The merit of Knock Off has been mentioned earlier.
Sludge Bomb deals with Tapu Bulu.
Hidden Power Fire is mainly for Kartana, it also helps to wear down Mega Mawile.

~

* Threats to the team *

- Calm Mind/Pain Split Magearna : To outplay this threat I have to bait Magearna into using all of its Fleur Cannon and Thunderbolt, and/or pressure it to put it in KO range for Gliscor. This is difficult to do without giving up a Pokémon.

- Calm Mind Tapu Lele: Tapu Lele is a bit easier to play around because all I have to do is get a Toxic on it somehow, through a prediction on the switch or by sacrificing just one Pokémon. Stalling out Psychic Terrain turns is important. Choiced Tapu Lele are even less of an issue because Mega Sableye and Clefable have Protect to scout Tapu Lele's planned move.

- Mega Mawile coupled with healing sources: Mega Mawile can be adequately worn down by Tangrowth's Rocky Helmet chip and Hidden Power Fire and it can be pressured by Gliscor's Earthquake. It gets harder if Mega Mawile is supported by Healing Wish or Wish, however.

- Waterium-Z Manaphy because Clefable gets worn down too much by Surf in rain and Manaphy can run Psychic to get rid of my Toxapex so I can't Haze reliably.

The team has a solid matchup against anything else, however.

SD Z-Kartana is handled by Hidden Power Fire Tangrowth, from my experience it even lives +2 Breakneck Blitz most of the time, 75% of the time without having taken prior damage: +2 252 Atk Kartana Breakneck Blitz (200 BP) vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth: 355-418 (88 - 103.7%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
Mega Charizard X is handled by Toxapex, Toxapex gets the Toxic/Haze off and I see it out from there.
In the game vs Zokuru, which is in the replays section, you can see that in action.
Tapu Bulu is usually dealt with by Tangrowth as mentioned in the description. Tangrowth has Sludge Bomb. If Tapu Bulu is running Megahorn, Toxapex will get the Toxic off in time.
Serperior is a medium threat but I usually manage to stall out the Leaf Storm.
Serperior needs Glare hax to get past Clefable and even then I can read the Glare and deflect it with Mega Sableye.
To see how the team deals with Serperior, I refer you to the game vs DKM in the replay section.
Regular Venusaur is not seen too often, there are only a few users running sun. Either way Toxapex can Haze on it pretty easily and burn it with Scald.
I might scout for Sleep Powder in advance.
Virizion is even more obscure than regular Venusaur and is handled by Clefable as Virizion is weak to Moonblast.

well, a friend told me he got over 2200 elo with this team before u rmted this so im posting this to say good job, the team does work and yea the title is more or less accurate, lol. i know u alr mentioned how u deal with cm lele but it would be nice if u can provide any replays it would be nice, doesnt have to be an olt player as im interested to see how u do this. lastly, i myself have been playing olt and i dont think ive seen a lot of lele so this works to the teams benefit

Banded Hoopa U or Sub-NP Hoopa C: are these just concedes? The latter is a dedicated stall breaker, so no surprise, but also looks like Hoopa-U+ heatran would pressure this really hard.

  • Sad
Reactions: amg
Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound puts a lot of pressure on the team but it can be beaten by milling Hyperspace Fury's Power Points.
In addition, Hoopa-Unbound is weak to Moonblast.
Gliscor can use Toxic on Hoopa-Unbound while Mega Sableye and Tangrowth can use Knock Off to remove the Choice Band.
Substitute Nasty Plot Hoopa is a very obscure threat, I would say that Mega Sableye checks it because Knock Off is an OHKO and Hoopa needs two turns to become threatening, first the Substitute, then the Nasty Plot. Mega Sableye also survives a +2 Shadow Ball from Hoopa.
Mega Sableye will come in on the turn that Hoopa uses Substitute.

couple additions to threat list:
firium magma storm heatran hurts this team a lot, especially when aided by taunt
you don't really deal with any form of mawile (sd or AAA)
any specs or z lele pounds ur team especially w taunt
z kyurem is a nuke to anything on ur team
fly z gyarados has no resist and can probably snowball into a sweep
dd mega tar or dd roost zard x is pretty scary too when clef is weakened a bit
most forms of blacephalon are super threatening
mega pinsir, no fly resist
steelium excadrill completely smashes
all forms of hoopa, like most stalls

decent stall overall tho. probably better than anything i could build lol

Firium Z Heatran expends its Z-Move on Mega Sableye. In the ideal scenario it has used several Magma Storms already.
Gliscor then checks Heatran and forces it out.
Mega Mawile is chipped by Tangrowth's Rocky Helmet, as mentioned in the description.
It gets worn down further by Tangrowth's Hidden Power Fire.
If Mega Mawile is preserved, Tangrowth regains health by switching out due to Regenerator.
Toxapex can potentially burn Mega Mawile with Scald, and Mega Sableye can burn Mega Mawile if it goes for a predicted Swords Dance.
Gliscor's Earthquake heavily pressures Mega Mawile.
Mega Mawile is only hard to overcome if it is supported by a teammates' Wish or Healing Wish, as mentioned in the threat list.
Choice Specs Tapu Lele is handled by means of scouting and proper prediction. Mega Sableye and Clefable have Protect to scout.
A Tapu Lele locked into one move is never going to trouble the team as Chansey and Toxapex stomach Moonblast with ease, and Mega Sableye is immune to Psychic moves.
Tapu Lele with a Z-Move is already referred to in the threat list, all I really need to do is land a Toxic on it. I can achieve this by either giving up one Pokémon or by catching it on the switch-in, by means of a prediction.
Icium-Z Kyurem-Black is baited into expending its Z-Move on Clefable, afterwards Chansey or Toxapex can land a Toxic on it and wear it down.
Flyinium-Z Gyarados is handled by Clefable since Clefable has Unaware.
Mega Tyranitar with Dragon Dance is appropriately dealt with with a combination of Toxapex, Tangrowth and/or Clefable, depending on the state of the game. It is not a main threat.
Blacephalon is handled quite well by Toxapex. The Z-Move that some Blacephalon use can be walled or even completely negated by Chansey.
Mega Pinsir is a medium threat but all I have to do is land a Toxic on it and keep Clefable healthy so it can stall out turns by looping Wish and Protect.
Steelium-Z Excadrill is also a medium threat but Gliscor's Earthquake pressures Excadrill heavily and I let Tangrowth get hit by the Z-Move. I need to get Gliscor on the field against it before it uses Swords Dance.
I've explained the Hoopa matchup in my previous post, I also refer you to the battle vs samqian in the replay section.

all of these are "ideal scenarios" thats the problem. all those scenarios arent gonna always happen
im not tryna go through all of those again and argue about it im just offering suggestions towards how to improve ur team lol
no stall team beats everything

Choice Band Tyranitar is primarily handled through smart use of the Regenerator pivots Tangrowth and Toxapex.
Stone Edge has only 8 Power Points.
Tangrowth can avoid a 2HKO most of the time: 252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth: 175-207 (43.4 - 51.3%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Leftovers recovery
In addition, Gliscor lives a Stone Edge most of the time and can pressure Tyranitar with Earthquake.
If Tyranitar is locked into Crunch, Toxapex can also Toxic it to put it on a timer.

thank you very much, but you have to be very careful with tyranitar ban you will have a replay?

This is a pretty sweet team, thank you for posting. I'm not such a great player but when people like you post RMTs it is a great help to low ladder scrubs like me. I haven't watched all of your replays yet so maybe this question has already been answered but how do you handle SD Facade Gliscor? I don't see an obvious solution other than perhaps pressuring it with Tangrowth until it gets too many boosts, then PP stalling with Clefable?

Swords Dance Facade Gliscor is handled by a combination of Unaware Clefable and Tangrowth.
The goal is to make the opponent's Gliscor expend all of its Facade Power Points so that it is no longer threatening.
Clefable stalls out the bulk of Gliscor's Power Points.
You can bring in Tangrowth on turns that you predict a Swords Dance, this will bait the opposing Gliscor user into using Facade next turn to get rid of the Tangrowth, you switch back into Clefable.
By switching out on a turn on which the opponent's Gliscor stays in, refuses to attack and uses Swords Dance, you can gain a Power Point advantage over time.
Tangrowth can pressure Gliscor with Giga Drain early on, since Gliscor needs several boosts to inflict considerable damage on Tangrowth.
In addition, Toxapex can potentially Haze at full health, provided that it's already in battle when Gliscor uses Swords Dance.

The battle against z0mog in the replay section provides an example of the matchup.
