role compendium

~This thread is under construction. Please be patient while we add the compendiums!~

What is a role compendium
A role compendium is a resource to aid in teambuilding. This thread will display a list of Pokemon broken up into different roles so players can quickly identify what Pokemon would work best for a desired function. The purpose is not to show everything that can perform the role; the Pokemon listed here are generally accepted as the most viable, which means a lot of options will be left out.

Below you will find posts for AAA, STABmons, Tier Shift, Inverse Battle, Monotype, and a few reserved posts for future additions.

How to use the compendiums
There will be a post for each metagame represented in this thread, so if you're looking for roles in AAA, first look for that individual post. Let's say you're searching for a Stealth Rock setter, which should be listed under "Hazards." In this list of Stealth Rock setters you will find the best ones in AAA and can select a Pokemon depending on what your team needs, be it an offensive setter or a Ground-type or a utility Pokemon. Viability within each role is ranked by its position, the left side being the most viable, while the far right is generally assumed to be less viable.

If you think a Pokemon is viable and missing from a particular role, tag the owner of that metagame's post and suggest the update.

Because this thread is married to a role's viability, here are the lists to each metagame's viability ranking:
----------------------
FAQ

Q: Why is X metagame missing?
A: I consulted with players in the permanent ladders and determined some of them (BH, 1v1) would not get a lot of mileage out of one. Non-permanent metagames may be added over time, though, depending on a few factors like a challenge option and size of the playerbase.

Q: Why is X metagame missing a particular category found in the other compendiums? Why does Y metagame have a category found in none of the others?
A: Each metagame is different and will require different roles. For instance, countering Normal-types is important in STABmons and Inverse where they are more prevalent. Likewise, Birdspam gets a special mention in AAA due to the widespread use of Gale Wings.

Q: Why isn't every threat from the viability rankings listed?
A: The goal should be to provide a quick guide for the most common threats in a particular metagame to make teambuilding easier. Some C threats might show up, but our focus is on S, A, and B ranks, which shape the metagame more than the lower-ranked and niche Pokemon do.

Q: How do I add to the compendium?
A: Suggest an addition (or removal) by tagging the individual in control of that post. For example, to add to the STABmons compendium, tag unfixable with your suggestion. If he agrees, he'll add it to the list. Also, please include a few reasons why something should be added (if it's not obvious already).

Do not recommend "creative" roles, however. Players using this resource want to see the tried-and-true Pokemon, not gimmicks or risky strategies.

Q: Is the order on the list important?
A: Roughly, yes. The more viable roles will be on the left side.

Q: Is this the place to discuss viability?
A: No. Please do that in the metagame's respective viability ranking thread. See links above.

Peef Rimgar Tier Shift

Add:
  • Accelgor to Spikes: It is a great suicide lead due to its high speed, Final Gambit, Encore, and Spikes. It is amazing on spike stacking HO teams.
  • Braviary to Choice Scarf: Braviary is incredibly powerful, somewhat bulky, and fast with a Choice Scarf. It is a great revenge killer, and is still capable of sweeping weakened teams.
  • Tornadus-T, Noivern to Weather Abusers: Personally I would include Hurricane users, but if not then just ignore this.

Remove:
  • Landorus from Fighting Type Check, Speed Raising Moves/Abilities, Calm Mind, and Stealth Rock (Offensive): Banned
  • Alomomola from Healing Wish/Lunar Dance: Alomomola is capable of passing wishes and it shouldn't be used on any HO team, which is where Healing Wish would be used. Killing itself to heal another Pokemon would be a waste of its great bulk anyways.
  • Scyther from Choice Scarf: It is already very fast with a base speed of 120. In addition to that, it is quite bulky and appreciates having recovery. It also prefers being able to set up Swords Dances.
