Lunala @ Power Herb
Ability: Shadow Shield
Level: 50
EVs: 220 HP / 4 Def / 108 SpA / 116 SpD / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moongeist Beam
- Meteor Beam
- Trick Room
- Protect / Wide Guard
Lunala has seen a massive resurgence in usage thanks to the combination of Power Herb + Meteor Beam giving it a way to muscle past checks such as Incineroar, Yveltal, and Mandibuzz. Its Moongeist Beam becomes extremely potent afterwards as well, making it one of the most offensive presences in the metagame, 2HKOing the bulkiest of threats like Kyogre, Zacian-C, and Groudon. Additionally, Shadow Shield gives Lunala the benefit of being virtually guaranteed to survive any one attack, oftentimes attacks from both targets, which is perfect for guaranteeing Trick Room or one big blow. Its Ghost typing is also huge for being an attacker in a metagame dominated by Fake Out, rendering it very difficult to slow down once it gets the ball rolling. The given EV spread allows it to survive Calyrex-S's Astral Barrage while giving it enough Speed to comfortably outrun and blast Incineroar with Meteor Beam. Good partners for Lunala include Incineroar, which can provide Fake Out and Intimidate support, Tsareena, which can hit hard and block priority attacks to preserve Shadow Shield, and Stakataka, which can pressure Incineroar and act as a second Trick Room setter.
