Ivysaur (NFE)

[OVERVIEW]

Ivysaur, the second stage in the Bulbasaur evolutionary line, proves to be a formidable contender in the Not Fully Evolved (NFE) metagame of Generation 2. With access to a diverse moveset and solid base stats, Ivysaur can function as a versatile bulky status spreader. Its combination of STAB Razor Leaf and Sludge Bomb enables it to handle common threats in the NFE tier effectively. Additionally, its access to Sleep Powder grants Ivysaur the ability to cripple opposing threats, further bolstering its utility.

[SET]
move 1: Razor Leaf
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Synthesis
move 4: Sleep Powder
item: Miracle Berry

[SET DETAILS]
Razor Leaf is Ivysaur's primary STAB move, capable of dealing significant damage to a variety of opponents. Its high critical hit ratio in Generation 2 further enhances its offensive potential.
Sludge Bomb provides valuable coverage, hitting Poison-resistant Pokémon for super-effective damage. This move proves essential for dealing with common threats in the NFE metagame.
Sy grants Ivysaur reliable recovery, ensuring its longevity in battles. This move complements its bulk and ability to act as a tank.
Sleep Powder is an invaluable utility move, allowing Ivysaur to put threatening opponents to sleep. This status-inducing move creates opportunities for setup or easier handling of dangerous foes.
Mirical Berry is the recommended held item for Ivysaur, enabling it to instantly cure any status conditions, such as sleep, paralysis, or poison. This ensures that Ivysaur can continue performing its role effectively without being hindered by status problems.

[OTHER OPTIONS]
Giga Drain can be considered as an alternative Grass-type STAB move, providing recovery alongside damage. However, the lack of power compared to Razor Leaf might make it less appealing.
Hidden Power (Ground) can be used to hit Poison-resistant Pokémon, but its power is lacking in Generation 2.
Light Screen and Reflect are viable support options, allowing Ivysaur to help its team by reducing incoming physical or special damage, respectively.

[TEAM OPTIONS]
Pokémon that can take advantage of sleeping opponents, such as setup sweepers, greatly benefit from Ivysaur's Sleep Powder support.
Pokémon that appreciate Ivysaur's ability to handle Grass-resistant threats or Poison types can be excellent partners.
Steel-type Pokémon can help handle opponents who resist both of Ivysaur's STAB moves, as well as Fairy-type moves, which are problematic for Grass-types.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]
Steelix is a formidable opponent that resists both Razor Leaf and Sludge Bomb while having access to powerful STAB Earthquake and Rock Slide.
Misdreavus can Taunt Ivysaur, preventing it from using status moves, and has access to strong Ghost-type moves.
Graveler can avoid Ivysaur's Sleep Powder thanks to its Ground typing and retaliate with STAB Rock-type moves.

[CONCLUSION]
Ivysaur's versatility, coupled with its access to sleep-inducing moves and strong STAB options, makes it a valuable asset in the Generation 2 NFE metagame. As a bulky status spreader, it can support its team by providing utility and handling common threats effectively. Consider incorporating Ivysaur into your NFE team to take advantage of its unique strengths and make the most out of its role as a formidable NFE contender.

Don't count what I'm saying as a QC. I never played a format involving only NFEs.
[SET]
move 1: Razor Leaf
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Synthesis
move 4: Sleep Powder
item: Miracle Berry
Unfortunately Ivysaur does not learn Sludge bomb in Gen2. It's sad but it's true (I know because I wrote a post about Venusaur). Instead you could consider double edge as a valid move.

NFE counts as an OM as far as analyses goes so this would belong in the following subforum, https://www.smogon.com/forums/forums/past-generation-om-analyses.770/.

For what it's worth GSC NFE is not a supported format there however and they are currently not taking analyses (and Steelix / Misdreavus/Taunt would not belong in it if was anyway). NFE is currently not doing analyses for Gen9 yet but when they do open it would belong here if you are interested in contributing! https://www.smogon.com/forums/forums/om-analyses.763/

We greatly appreciate any interest in contributing to the section and if you are interested in contributing for another tier or format then we highly encourage it! Make sure to check out the relevant subforums for said sections if you are interested in it and post in the reservation index's to take on a Pokemon that is currently available to write.

I'll be moving this post for now as its not eligible but thank you for the interest nonetheless!
