Following Hoopa's exit from the 1v1 tier and community input, the 1v1 council has voted to ban Meloetta and Gholdengo from the tier. Tagging Kris to implement (thanks!)

Since its introduction, Meloetta has been able to shine with various different sets in the SV 1v1 metagame, ranging from Choiced sets and setup Life Orb, to bulky Weakness Policy sets (with its wide range of status moves like Calm Mind, Charm, Fake Tears and Endure); even sometimes being able to utilize Relic Song to transform into Meloetta-Pirouette, gaining a resistance and beating slower Dark types. With a very respectable 100/77/128 defensive statline, even Choiced special attackers like Greninja failed to knock it out in a single hit, while being promptly dispatched by a strong STAB Hyper Beam. With a myriad of viable coverage or status moves, almost all of which allowed it to pick and beat its normal counters without sacrificing its best matchups, making this Pokemon a nightmare to build around. As such, the council has unanimously decided to ban it with a 7-0 majority.

Gholdengo, after coming off the banlist with Pokemon Home launching, managed to cement its status in the tier by doing the exact same things it did the last time. With Good as Gold being able to stop status moves, its Defensive and Special Defensive sets with Weakness Policy excel, being able to set up in the face of slower Pokemon like Iron Hands, or live strong hits from Jolly Choice Banded Meowscarada. It forces damage boosting items on many of its counters for them to function, due to its natural bulk, and is an excellent partner to Dragons like Regidrago and Walking Wake, duo to being able to consistently beat almost every Fairy type in the tier, the latter of which helps beat the Fire and Ground types used to check Gholdengo itself. While it has its flaws, it consistently generates good matchups, since it's hard to fit multiple counters to it on a team; and beats a large chunk of the metagame with each of its sets (Choice Specs/Scarf, Air Balloon,Weakness Policy) . Hopefully it stays Gholdengone this time, as the council has again chosen to ban it unanimously with a 7-0 majority.

With three of the most used (and best performing) Pokemon in the tier suddenly being whisked away, the council will be monitoring the resulting metagame closely to handle out other potentially strong Pokemon that may require action over the next few weeks. With 1v1 Premier League around the corner (make sure to sign up if you haven't already!), it's likely that there may be new sets and techs that may need to be addressed quickly. Post away in the metagame discussion thread if you'd like your voice to be heard!
