Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature

- Ice Beam
[11:16:28 AM] Doesnt Know: build a doubles team that doesn't use any form of speed control
[11:16:30 AM] Doesnt Know: *how*
[11:18:45 AM] Fireburn: rain
I haven't actually played with rain that much in Doubles- the last rain team I built was my very first team and it was rather awful. I don't think it's as broken here as in Singles, especially since every other team is packing at least one raincoat mon- as such, I tried to avoid making a "full" rain team. Not that I could anyway since Kingdra and Swift Swim Ludicolo were off the table!
Jirachi @ Lum Berry
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Spd / 24 Def
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Rain Dance
- Follow Me
- Protect
- Psychic
At first I wanted to do some sort of protected Focus Punch shenanigans with Conkeldurr, but I ended up writing him off the team, which also removed the main reason for Jirachi being here (also why is it min speed wow). The ability to shrug of fire in the rain and take Psychic hits aimed at Keldeo made it invaluable though. EVs allow it to outrun max speed Hitmontop despite me being a complete idiot and forgetting to fix the IVs when I changed this from a slow Trick Room punisher. Protect is obligatory. Psychic is chosen to maul Hitmontop and do better overall in the Intimidate-heavy metagame as a mono-attack than Iron Head. Rain Dance was used exactly zero times due to my team not really caring about rain.
Keldeo @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Protect
- Taunt
If using Kingdra is anything like using Keldeo then it terrifies me, as this pony was easily the MVP of the team. Rain-boosted Hydro Pumps let it punch massive holes in most things, and it has enough speed to outrun most of the game and Taunt to prevent Trick Room shenanigans. Respectable 91/90/90 bulk and a strong STAB in Secret Sword made it invaluable.
Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast
I figure since I don't have any form of speed control, the longer the battle goes the more likely I am to get swept up by some jerk Tailwind or Trick Room. As such, I decided to load up the rest of the team with heavy attackers, starting with an outclassed genie. I'm not sure if Specs is the best item for him though as he dies to a stiff breeze without bulk investment and wants to switch moves a lot.
Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Protect
I realized that I didn't have many options against kami. Because I paid attention to VGC 2013, I was aware that Mamoswine makes a good check to them. Unfortunately, I am not bold enough to run two Choice items in Doubles, so I went with a non-Scarf Mamoswine that doesn't really accomplish much in that regard. It can still wreck Dragons pretty well though, and provides a nifty Electric resist.
Breloom @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Protect
For the last mon, I wanted something that could counter Trick Room and carry a good priority move. Breloom packs both of these talents, and was a very welcome member.
To compensate for not having many replays in the past, I made a point of saving every battle that wasn't a turn 1 forfeit. I didn't take very good notes on what each of them was though, and a lot of them are pretty sloppy. The only one I would've saved normally is the first one, although it still isn't great.
