name: Choice Scarf
move 1: U-turn
move 2: Zing Zap
move 3: Iron Head
move 4: Nuzzle / Toxic
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Lightning Rod
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

U-turn allows Togedemaru to pivot in and out of battle, especially against unideal matchups such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon. Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that hit Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Comfey for super effective damage while also having the potential to cause flinch to the foe. Nuzzle is a decent option for this set to provide speed control and opens up the door for Togedemaru to paraflinch foes such as Vileplume and Incineroar until they faint, while Toxic cripples defensive switch-ins such as Seismitoad and Palossand. Wild Charge can be ran to always OHKO Aerodactyl.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Choice Scarf and a Jolly nature makes Togedemaru a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian as well as other fast threats like Sceptile, Aerodactyl, Vivillon, and +1 Timid Magmortar. Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt that attempt to use Volt Switch.

Usage Tips
========

Togedemaru should use the boosted speed from Choice Scarf to pivot with U-turn or pick off a weakened foe such as Sceptile or Aerodactyl. Iron Head and Zing Zap are also good moves to use, since they help provide important chip damage to bulky Pokemon like Vileplume and Incineroar, and they have a small chance to cause flinch to the foe. Because it is relatively frail, Togedemaru should never be brought in against a direct attack; the more damage Togedemaru takes, the less time it has to pivot. However, it can easily come in against a Pokemon with Electric-type moves such as Heliolisk or Rotom or against users of Toxic such as Golbat thanks to its Steel typing. Another important thing to note is that Togedemaru can easily come in against Comfey's Draining Kiss but needs to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, especially after it has boosted.

Team Options
========

Choice Scarf Togedemaru fits on teams that need a fast pivot as well as a check to Pokemon like Comfey, Heliolisk, Sneasel, and Sceptile. Druddigon with Glare is a notable partner, since it and Togedemaru can form a paralysis spreading core. Partners like Pangoro, Sceptile, and Sigilyph appreciate Togedemaru's ability to soft check Pokemon like Comfey, Mega Glalie, and Sneasel. These Pokemon can also help Togedemaru keep Ground- and Fighting-types in check in return. These Pokemon are also relatively frail and appreciate being brought into battle safely via U-turn and can punish what Togedemaru commonly draws in like Incineroar, Rhydon, and Steelix. Teammates such as Rhydon, Seismitoad, and Blastoise keep Fire-types in check so Togedemaru has an easier time pivoting. Wallbreakers like Alolan Exeggutor, Dhelmise, and Samurott appreciate Togedemaru drawing in Pokemon like Passimian, Rhydon, and Incineroar and benefit greatly from U-turn safely bringing them in. Bulky teammates such as Slowking, Dhelmise, and pivot Incineroar appreciate Togedemaru's immunity to Toxic. Incineroar can also form a pivoting core with Togedemaru. Wish support from teammates like Vaporeon and Delphox can help keep Togedemaru healthy if it has taken prior damage. Fighting-type checks such as Delphox, Garbodor, and Comfey also make good partners for Togedemaru.

  • U-turn is the most important move of this set as it allows Togedemaru to pivot in and out of battle, especially against unideal matchups such as Incineroar, Magmortar, and Rhydon. I mean, you 2HKO Magmortar with Zing Zap, so I wouldn't really call that a poor matchup per se. Steelix should certain be mentioned here.
  • Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that also have the potential to flinch the foe.
  • Toxic cripples defensive switch ins such as? while Super Fang can halve the HP of any Pokemon, making it ideal against bulky Pokemon that lack reliable recovery such as Incineroar and Rhydon. Again, note Steelix as a Super Fang target.
  • Note Nuzzle down here, it's a nice Speed control option.
Set Details
========

  • With a Jolly Nature, maximum Speed investment, and a Choice Scarf, Togedemaru becomes a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian. Adamant should probably be the first slash. AFAIK you don't miss out on any important benchmarks, you still outspeed Choice Scarf Passimian, and you get a bit of extra power behind an otherwise underwhelming Pokemon. You can still note Jolly letting you avoid a Speed tie versus +1 Timid Magmortar (Flame Charge).
  • Maxumum Attack investment, meanwhile, ensures that Togedemaru will be hitting as hard as it can.
  • Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru with an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to easily come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt
Usage Tips
========

  • Togedemaru should use its Choice Scarf to either pivot with U-turn or pick off a weakened opponent. Give some examples of Pokemon you can revenge kill, such as Sceptile and Aerodactyl. Also, you don't really use the Choice Scarf to revenge kill and function as a good pivot; you use the boosted speed.
  • As such, U-turn should be the most used move, as it allows Togedemaru to pivot out of a potentially bad situation such as being up against Pokemon like Incineroar, Passimian, and Rhydon, and bring in a partnerbthatvcan the space key deal with said threat.
  • Because it is relatively frail, Togedemaru should never be brought in against a direct attack: the more damage Togedemaru takes, the less time it has to pivot. However, it can easily come in against a Pokemon that is threatened by its STAB combination such as Xatu, Vaporeon, or Cryogonal, or against users of Toxic such as Slowking and Golf I have no idea what a Golf is at thanks to its Steel-typing. Togedemaru shouldn't really be switching into most of these Pokemon listed imo; unless you're trying to switch into Vaporeon's or Slowking's Toxic, you're risking getting burned by Scald. Vaporeon also always runs Protect, so it's not like you get to try to force a switch and use U-turn lol. Maybe note some other Toxic users that don't punish Togedemaru as hard, and you can also mentioning pivoting into Electric attacks from Heliolisk and Rotom.
  • Do not let Togedemaru become burned, as the status ailment halves Togedemaru's power and depletes its health bit by bit. This is common knowledge and does not really help the analysis much.
  • Something about when to use Nuzzle.
Team Options
========

  • Togedemaru fits on teams that need a fast pivot as well as a check to Pokemon like Vikavolt, Garbodor, and Sceptile. This set gets blown back by Vikavolt's Bug Buzz and Savage Spinout. Find a different example. I'm also not so sure about Garbodor given sure, you are immune to Gunk Shot, but you get smacked by Stomping Tantrum and don't reliably break bulkier variants.
  • Partners like Pangoro, Sceptile, and Sigylyph appreciate Togedemaru's ability to soft check Pokemon like Comfey, Mega Glalie, and Sneasel. These Pokemon can also help Togedemaru keep Ground- and Fighting-types in check in return. Also note that these are frail wallbreakers that like being brought in safely via U-turn and can punish what Togedemaru commonly draws in.
  • Teammates such as Rhydon, Seismitoad, and Samurott keep Fire-types in check so that Togedemaru has an easier time pivoting. Blastoise > Samurott for meta relevancy's sake.
  • Bulky teammates such as Slowking, Magmortar, and pivot Incineroar appreciate Togedemaru's immunity to Toxic. Incineroar can also form a pivoting core with Togedemaru. Magmortar is not a bulky teammate. Dhelmise would work better as a mention here.
  • Clerics like Vaporeon and Delphox can help provide Wish support to keep Togedemaru healthy if it has taken prior damage. Delphox is not a cleric; clerics use Heal Bell, not wish.

there's a lot to look at here, but overall the information is on the right track. let me know when this is updated, and I'll take another look.

  • Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that also have the potential to flinch the foe. perhaps throw in some examples here of like Aerodactyl and Comfey that these moves let Togedemaru revenge kill
  • Toxic cripples defensive switch ins such as Rhydon, Palossand, and Dhelmise eh I don't love the Dhelmise mention here, and the Rhydon one is a bit iffy too; both lose on direct switches in if Iron Head flinches once. Seismitoad would be a good fit here. while Super Fang can halve the HP of any Pokemon, making it ideal against bulky Pokemon that lack reliable recovery such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon.
  • Nuzzle is a decent option for this set to provide further speed control. keep in mind that Choice Scarf users aren't considered Speed control, so Nuzzle provides Speed control period, not further control
Set Details
========

  • With an Adamant Nature, maximum Speed investment, and a Choice Scarf, Togedemaru becomes a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian. Jolly can be run instead to avoid a speed tie with Timid Flame Charge Magmortar at +1 can just say +1 Timid Magmortar, do note though that Flame Charge Magmortar isn't particularly common, hence Adamant being better 99.9% of the time.
  • Maxumum Attack investment, meanwhile, ensures that Togedemaru will be hitting as hard as it can. you could probably just throw this information in the above bullet... something like "Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Choice Scarf and an Adamant nature makes Togedemaru a fast pivot.."
  • Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru with an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to easily come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt I wouldn't say it easily comes into these Pokemon; it can pivot into certain moves from them
Usage Tips
========

  • Togedemaru should use the boosted speed from Choice Scarf to either pivot with U-turn or pick off a weakened opponent such as Sceptile and Aerodactyl.
  • As such, U-turn should be the most used move, as it allows Togedemaru to pivot out of a potentially bad situation such as being up against Pokemon like Incineroar, Passimian, and Rhydon, and bring in a partner that can deal with said threat.

However, it can easily come in against a Pokemon with Electric-type STAB such as Heliolisk and Rotom, or against users of Toxic such as Golbat at thanks to its Steel-typing.
  • Nuzzle should ideally be used against fast offensive Pokemon such as Sceptile, Sneasel, and Vivillon so that it can paralyze them, making these Pokemon much less frightening. against all of these you're just going to use your STAB attacks; you could note how paralysis helps cripple defensive Pokemon like Vileplume and Incineroar and opens up the door for Togedemaru to paraflinch them to death
Team Options

  • Togedemaru fits on teams that need a fast pivot as well as a check to Pokemon like Heliolisk, Sneasel, and Sceptile.

U-turn is the most important move of this set as it allows Togedemaru to pivot in and out of battle, especially against unideal matchups such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon. Super Fang isn’t all that great. Mention Wild Charge instead which can do some necessary extra damage in certain MUs, and also mention Giga Impact, which allows Togedemaru to hit Heliolisk for a lot more damage. Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that hit Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Comfey for super effective damage, while also having the potential to flinch the foe. Toxic cripples defensive switch ins such as Seismitoad and Palossand while Super Fang can halve the HP of any Pokemon, making it ideal against bulky Pokemon that lack reliable recovery such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon. Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Choice Scarf and an Jolly nature makes Togedemaru a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian, as well as other fast threats like Sceptile, Aerodactyl, Vivillon, +1 Timid Magmortar, and rival Togedemaru. Adamant can be run instead for more power but it won't outspeed Vivillon and mirror matchups. I mean this really proves exactly why you SHOULDNT use Adamant. Unless there’s any specific calc that i don’t know about, Jolly should always be used. Outspeeding things like Vivillon is too important. Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru with an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt that attempt to use Volt Switch.

nuzzle should probably be in the actual moveset lmao, its way more common than toxic which is a complete momentum suck vs the mons you mentioned cause they can easily do smth like set up rocks and ur kinda screwed. nuzzle is kinda similar to this but in some cases u rly need to para fast stuff to win the game whereas the toxic rarely factors into play. ref seis is a thing too and palossand has recovery. if it must be included berry inc/palo are like the biggest targets so def mention inc there but ye toxic overall isn't great.
179135

and also mention Giga Impact, which allows Togedemaru to hit Heliolisk for a lot more damage.
um wat. zing zap / iron head already 3hkos and it usually doesn't stay in on toge?? and it has a recharge turn lol which is dead toge. o_o please explain this one

glare druddigon should be mentioned in the team options section because glare has natural cohesion with toge since paraflinch is rly nice and is part of the main reason u use this set

jolly only for sure

to team options u could/probably should add stuff like magmortar / offensive blastoise which benefit greatly from a sequence in which you safely uturn on steelix/palossand etc

I really disagree w the notion that you should be clicking uturn all the time; ZZ and iron head are really spammable moves cus they're both strong stab moves and can flinch. like honestly if theres an inc thats switching in i wouldn't just uturn all the time id click zing zap and get the ~28% chip on it because any chip on inc is good. mayb you could reword this to something like "u-turn is frequently a safe midground play that works against teams with hard counters like steelix and can also get chip damage off on [pokemon you've mentioned like incineroar/heliolisk et cetera]"

spikes have natural cohesion with pivots like this and aren't mentioned once in this analysis, should probably include it in team options somewhere

this set is really important to the meta rn so all the points I made above should probably be looked at and clarified by the QC team before this set goes into gp :psyglad:

edit: btw JustoonSmitts im not bashing your analysis at all I think its very well written. there are just a few points that I think could be rephrased to more closely conform to how togedemaru actually plays

tbh i had seen discussion of nuzzle in qc discord so i had just assumed it had made it's way onto here in another check lmao. guess i shouldve made sure. ive used nuzzle a fair bit and its definitely worth putting in there.

i have no opinion on giga impact at all. i have never used it nor seen it used.

glare drudd is fine to mention alongside fire-type checks.

yes jolly only.

i feel like the whole pivoting into wallbreakers idea is already covered well, but im not opposed to more explicitly stating breakers that appreciate what togedemaru draws in.

ya i like the idea of rewording the uturn point.

yeah a general entry hazard point is fine.

so ya include all of this into the last qc too. ty watchog for the input :]

U-turn is the most important move of this set as it allows Togedemaru to pivot in and out of battle, especially against unideal matchups such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon. Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that hit Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Comfey for super effective damage,(RC) while also having the potential to cause flinch to the foe. Nuzzle is a decent option for this set to provide speed control,(AC) while Toxic cripples defensive switch-(AH)ins such as Seismitoad and Palossand. Wild Charge can be ran to threaten bulky Water-types such as Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise much more.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Choice Scarf and a Jolly nature makes Togedemaru a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian,(RC) as well as other fast threats like Sceptile, Aerodactyl, Vivillon, +1 Timid Magmortar, and rival Togedemaru. Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru with an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt that attempt to use Volt Switch.

Usage Tips
========

Togedemaru should use the boosted speed from Choice Scarf to either pivot with U-turn or pick off a weakened opponent such as Sceptile and Aerodactyl. Iron Head and Zing Zap are also good moves to use,(AC) since they help deal nearly 30% damage to Incineroar (I highly doubt Iron Head deals 30% to Incineroar let alone Iron Head and Zing Zap dealing the same amount of damage, so I don't understand this part) and because they have a small chance to cause flinch to the foe. Because it is relatively frail, Togedemaru should never be brought in against a direct attack:(colon);(SC) the more damage Togedemaru takes, the less time it has to pivot. However, it can easily come in against a Pokemon with Electric-type moves such as Heliolisk and Rotom,(RC) or against users of Toxic such as Golbat at thanks to its Steel-(RH)typing. Another important thing to note is that it Togedemaru can easily come in against Comfey's Draining Kiss but needs to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, especially after it has boosted. Nuzzle's paralysis helps cripple defensive Pokemon like Vileplume and Incineroar and opens up the door for Togedemaru to paraflinch them to death.

These Pokemon can also help Togedemaru keep Ground- and Fighting-types in check in return. Teammates such as Rhydon, Seismitoad, and Blastoise keep Fire-types in check so that Togedemaru has an easier time pivoting. Wallbreakers like Comfey, Dhelmise, and offensive Blastoise appreciate Togedemaru drawing in Pokemon like Passimian, Rhydon, and Incineroar, as well as benefitting greatly from U-turn safely bringing them in. Fighting resists checks such as Delphox, Garbodor, and Comfey also make good partners for Togedemaru. Spikes setters such as Garbodor, Accelgor, and Ferroseed pair well with Togedemaru,(AC) since the extra damage does make Pokemon like Passimian and Magmortar much less threatening to Togedemaru.

Moves

U-turn allows Togedemaru to pivot in and out of battle, especially against unideal matchups such as Incineroar, Steelix, and Rhydon. Zing Zap and Iron Head are decent STAB moves that hit Pokemon like Aerodactyl and Comfey for super effective damage while also having the potential to cause flinch to the foe. Nuzzle is a decent option for this set to provide speed control, while Toxic cripples defensive switch-ins such as Seismitoad and Palossand. Wild Charge can be ran to threaten bulky Water-types such as Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise much more.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack and Speed investment alongside a Choice Scarf and a Jolly nature makes Togedemaru a fast pivot that can outspeed other pivots such as Heliolisk and Choice Scarf Passimian as well as other fast threats like Sceptile, Aerodactyl, Vivillon, +1 Timid Magmortar, and rival Togedemaru. Lightning Rod grants Togedemaru an immunity to Electric-type moves, allowing it to come in against Pokemon like Heliolisk and Vikavolt that attempt to use Volt Switch.

Usage Tips
========

Togedemaru should use the boosted speed from Choice Scarf to either pivot with U-turn or pick off a weakened opponent such as Sceptile and Aerodactyl. Iron Head and Zing Zap are also good moves to use, since they help privide important chip damage to bulky Pokemon like Vileplume and Incineroar and they have a small chance to cause flinch to the foe. Because it is relatively frail, Togedemaru should never be brought in against a direct attack; the more damage Togedemaru takes, the less time it has to pivot. However, it can easily come in against a Pokemon with Electric-type moves such as Heliolisk and Rotom or against users of Toxic such as Golbat thanks to its Steel typing. Another important thing to note is that Togedemaru can easily come in against Comfey's Draining Kiss but needs to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, especially after it has boosted. Nuzzle's paralysis helps cripple defensive Pokemon like Vileplume and Incineroar and opens up the door for Togedemaru to paraflinch them to death.

Team Options
========

Choice Scarf Togedemaru fits on teams that need a fast pivot as well as a check to Pokemon like Comfey, Heliolisk, Sneasel, and Sceptile. Druddigon with Glare is a notable partner since it and Togedemaru can form a paraflinch core. Wallbreakers like Comfey, Dhelmise, and offensive Blastoise appreciate Togedemaru drawing in Pokemon like Passimian, Rhydon, and Incineroar, as well as benefitting greatly from U-turn safely bringing them in. Wild Charge can be ran to threaten bulky Water-types such as Vaporeon, Slowking, and Blastoise much more always OHKO Aerodactyl (this is the reason you run it tbh).
