Monotype Chansey

[OVERVIEW]

* Chansey is the premier special wall for Normal teams and serves as one of the best defensive switch-ins to most of the metagame's special attackers, which makes it part of the difficult-to-break Normal-type Eviolite core with Porygon2.
* It also has access to a wide range of support options including Stealth Rock, Toxic, and recovery in Soft-Boiled.
* Thanks to Eviolite, Chansey actually also has decent physical bulk in part due to its unparalleled HP.
* With Natural Cure, it can also sponge status for the team with ease and can even beat many walls one-on-one when combined with Toxic.
* As a result, Chansey compresses many roles into one teamslot and is a must on any balanced or defensive Normal team.
* However, it has pretty terrible offensive presence, even with the help of Seismic Toss and Toxic, making it unable to pressure most threats with Taunt and stallbreakers in general.
* As a result, even though Chansey is a great defensive pivot, it is also often a huge drain on momentum due to how passive it is.
* It suffers from severe four-moveslot syndrome, as it has no way to run all of the utility it wants to.
* It also lacks the ability to take on the more powerful physical attackers such as Dragonite and can be setup bait for them as well.
* Because of its reliance on Eviolite, Chansey is also incapable of taking Knock Off at all, and the possible threat of Trick makes it difficult for Chansey to switch in when it needs to.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
* Stealth Rock wears down enemies whenever they switch in, and Chansey is the only viable user for balanced Normal teams.
* Soft-Boiled gives Chansey exceptional longevity, allowing it to switch into many attacks throughout a battle.
* Seismic Toss lets Chansey deal a decent amount of damage in spite of its terrible offensive stats.
* Toxic cripples walls and other threats, preventing them from switching in lightly and keeping setup sweepers from setting up safely.

Set Details
========
* Eviolite greatly improves Chansey's mixed bulk and makes it much more difficult to take out.
* Maximum HP and Defense investment and a Bold nature let Chansey take physical attacks better.
* Natural Cure lets Chansey beat most walls one-on-one by trading status moves and then curing Chansey as it switches out.

Usage Tips
========
* Chansey should take advantage of its great bulk to pivot into special attacks for the team.
* While Chansey does have decent physical bulk, try to avoid letting it take physical attacks to keep it healthy for its primary roles. In particular, make sure to never let Chansey be hit by Knock Off, as it needs its Eviolite to function as a wall.
* Thanks to Natural Cure, it also serves as a great status absorber and should switch into Toxic to keep its teammates healthy.
* Setting Stealth Rock as soon as possible is often the play, and you should try to use it whenever Chansey has the opportunity to.
* Toxic should be used to cripple switch-ins to wear them down over time. It can also cripple walls and Chansey is happy to trade status moves with them in order to do so. Make sure to use Natural Cure to heal as soon as it's safe, though, if Chansey switches into a Toxic.
* Be careful around Pokemon that sometimes use Trick, such as Latios, as Chansey cannot afford to lose its Eviolite.
* Soft-Boiled should be used liberally, as Chansey relies heavily on being healthy in order to freely switch into threats like Choice Specs Meloetta.
* While Toxic and Seismic Toss allow Chansey to have some offensive presence, it should often switch to an appropriate check when faced with setup sweepers, as they may get out of hand very quickly if Chansey tries to slowly wear them down.

Team Options
========
* Chansey fits well on all balanced Normal teams thanks to its access to Stealth Rock and unparalleled special bulk, so teams should often focus on adding Chansey as support instead of building around it.
* Porygon2 is Chansey's best teammate, as they form the renowned Normal-type Eviolite core with their impressive defensive stats. It easily takes on physical attackers such as Dragonite and Landorus-T for Chansey while also serving as a decent check to setup sweepers like Mega Scizor.
* Staraptor's Flying typing makes it an almost necessary teammate for Chansey, as it can switch into many Fighting-type attacks with the added help of its ability Intimidate while also sponging Knock Off with ease. It also even runs Defog to remove entry hazards that Chansey struggles with.
* Ditto discourages setup sweepers because of Imposter, so it pairs well with Chansey, which is often threatened by them.
* Offensive threats such as Diggersby, Meloetta, and Porygon-Z all greatly appreciate Chansey's support, as they will have a much easier time wallbreaking and sweeping with Stealth Rock up and their checks poisoned. In return, they can often break the stallbreakers that Chansey has trouble with.
* Thanks to its Psychic typing, Meloetta is especially useful for Chansey, as it can beat many Fighting-types and can also take on Poison-types that are immune to Toxic.
* Bewear is a tank option that can switch into some contact moves, such as Terrakion's Close Combat, for Chansey, but its lack of recovery makes it somewhat unreliable in this role.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
* Chansey is capable of using Wish, but it is less reliable recovery for Chansey itself.
* Thunder Wave can be used over Toxic to cripple offensive threats to support the team with some speed control, but Chansey cannot hope to touch other walls and most setup sweepers don't care about paralysis as much as Toxic poison.
* An EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD is usable to more efficiently improve its mixed bulk, but Chansey prefers to be able to take physical attacks as well as it can.
* On more defensive teams that require cleric support, Chansey can opt to use Heal Bell to support its teammates. However, Chansey has a hard time finding room for it along with the other utility it needs to bring.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Knock Off and Trick**: Chansey is reliant on Eviolite for its great bulk and can be easily taken out once it loses it. Knock Off users such as Azumarill and Alolan Muk must be avoided at all costs as a result. Similarly, Chansey must be careful when switching into potential Trick users such as Latios.

**Fighting-types**: All Fighting-types, such as Keldeo and Terrakion, threaten to 2HKO Chansey with their STAB attacks, and because they're often on offensive teams, they rarely care about being poisoned.

**Stallbreakers**: Chansey cannot even touch most stallbreakers such as Mew and Gliscor. These two are especially threatening, as they often carry Knock Off as well.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers with Substitute or Taunt such as Gyarados or sweepers that are immune to Toxic such as Mega Scizor easily set up on and beat Chansey.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Chansey lacks the bulk to take on physical wallbreakers such as Choice Band Victini and Diggersby and is forced to switch out against them.

**Fighting-types**: All Fighting-types, such as Keldeo and Terrakion, threaten Chansey with their STAB attacks able to 2HKO it, and because they're often on offensive teams, they rarely care about being poisoned.
