--

If you are inspired by the winning art design and have come up with a good and unique name you'd like the CAP to be known by, please submit your idea here and we will put it up for a vote against all other users' ideas. Final submissions must conform to the submission rules, so please read them carefully. Breaking the posting rules can also result in disqualification.

Rules

Legal name submissions must meet the following standards
  • Names must start with a capital letter.
  • Names cannot be longer than 12 characters.
  • Names can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A - Z
    • Numbers 0 - 9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Period (.)
    • Colon (:)
    • Space
  • No more than two capital letters can be included in the name, and capital letters cannot be consecutive.
  • A maximum of two non-letters can be included in the name, and a maximum of one non-letter of each type can be included (ie. You can't have two numbers, or two apostrophes, but you could have one number and one apostrophe)
A name will not be slated if it:
  • is completely unrelated to the design
  • is the name of an existing Pokemon
  • is silly (puns are fine)
  • is based primarily on memes
  • is meant to inflame, intimidate, or cause controversy
  • would cause legal issues in a real Pokemon game
Do not claim another person's name submission unless one or more of the following is true:
  • The original poster made a Final Submission post for a different name.
  • The original poster has stated in this thread the name can be claimed.
  • It is 48 hours or fewer until the thread closes.
WIPs

Work In Progress (WIP) Names can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Names can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with lists of Names. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP names by posting them repeatedly, or making minor spelling changes of a letter or two. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all names by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submissions

Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person. Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Final submissions must provide one sentence (25 words maximum) explaining the etymology of the name.

Final submissions must provide a common English pronunciation. The common pronunciation can be made in whatever format you feel best conveys the pronunciation to most English speakers. (You may optionally also provide an IPA pronunciation. For information about IPA and processing words into IPA read this guide: IPA For English. There are also numerous phonetic translation tools online that can help.)

Format

Name Final Submissions must be posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • The Name submission in bold.
  • A blank line
  • A one line description of the etymology of the name or why it is appropriate for our Pokemon. (25 words maximum)
  • A blank line
  • "Pronounced: <common English pronunciation>"
  • "IPA: <IPA pronunciation>" (optional)
Below the Final Submission you can post other comments, explanations, etc.

Example final submission:
Final Submission

Syclant

A combination of "Icicle" + "Ant".

Pronounced: "SICKLE-ant"
IPA: sɪkəlænt

This name was originally submitted by Lawman on the very first CAP project. It is simple, elegant, and easy to pronounce (even if you are pronouncing it wrong), which is why it was chosen as the official name for CAP1!
Deadline

This thread will be closed at the discretion of the CAP moderator team depending on thread activity.

Final Submission

Trainrex

"trainwreck" + "rex" (term that means "king" + is used for powerful apex reptiles)

Pronounced: "TRAIN-rex"
IPA: 'tɹeɪnɹɛks

Taking inspiration from Naviathan's Name Submissions thread, here's a new take on a classic name! Also thanks to StephXPM for letting me use the name.

WIP (2/3) <-- OLD

Chuggalong

"to chug along" + "chugga-chugga" (the sound a train makes) + long (in reference to its length + name for a Chinese dragon)

Pronounced: "CHUG-uh-LONG"
IPA: ˈt͡ʃʌɡəˈlɔŋ

Name claimed by BaffleTome!

WIP (1/3)

Scaleway

Scale + railway, the former being something that dragons tend to have and the latter being a road that trains use, plus “way” is a way to refer to navigation.

Pronounced: "skayl-wae”

WIP (2/3)

Allarcargo

“all” + “arcane” + “cargo”. with the fact that arcane starts with a, having all at the start has a small etymological nod to the term “all aboard”. arcane is a term to refer to a form of magic associated with dragons and is often associated with dragon energy in general. cargo is something trains hold

Pronounced: “all-ARC-car-goe

(WIP 1/3)

Whishiss

"Whistle + Hiss"

Pronounced: "wiss-hiss"

(WIP 2/3)

Condractor

"Conductor" + "dragon" + "reactor"

Pronounced: Con-drac-tor

WIP (1/2)

Empressha

Emperor/Empress (because Chinese Dragons are associated with Kings) + Ressha (Japanese term for trains, most prominently used in the train-themed Ressha Sentai ToQger) Also incorporates EMP, or electromagnetic pulse, which can be a result of nuclear explosion.

Pronounced: "em-PRES-sha”

WIP (2/2)

Kishapex

An abbreviation of Kikansha (Japanese term for locomotive) + Apex (the strongest, highest point; or apex predator, the top of the food chain)

Pronounced: "KEY-sha-pex”

To anyone asking why I'm using the Japanese term for trains instead of Chinese, 火車 | Huǒchē literally mean fire car, and Japan's dragons are stolen from Chinese myth anyway. On that note, I will endorse Baffletome's Chuggalong for authenticity and punny humour.

Leviatram

From Leviathan for both its origins as the name of a mythological serpent and its use as a word to describe big things and Tram.
Additionally a Steam Train known as Leviathan was one of the trains used in the construction of the first Transcontinental Railroad.

Pronaunced: luh-vy-ah-tram

WIP (2/3)

Dracoach

From Draco/Dragon/Draconic and Coach (referring to the part of a train passengers sit in).

Pronounced: DRAY-coach

WIP (1/3)

Freightilisk

Freight (as in freight trains) + Basilisk (general mythological creature associated with dragons)

Pronounced: Fray-tih-lisk

IPA: fɹeɪtɪlɪsk

WIP (2/3)

Passendrake

Passenger (what goes on trains) + Drake (another word for dragon)

Pronounced: Pass-en-drake

IPA: pæsɪndɹeɪk

WIP (3/3)

Dracobraco

Draco (name associated with dragons) + brake (vehicles have brakes) with the ending changed for assonance

Pronounced: Drake-oh-brake-oh

IPA: dɹeɪkəʊbɹeɪkəʊ

Edit: Feel free to use either of the crossed out ones if you like!

WIP (1/3)

Lokokomoto

loco ("crazy") + komodo, altogether a corruption of "locomotive"

Pronounced: "LO-ko-ko-MO-toh"

IPA: ˌlokokoˈmoto

I'm a fan of how saying this out loud resembles the percussive beat of a passing train.

WIP (2/3)

Rexpress

rex + express

Pronounced: rex-PRESS

WIP (3/3)

Kaboose

kaboom + caboose

Pronounced: ka-BOOSE

Rasktrax

Tarasque (Poisonous monster) + Tracks + Rex (King/Tyrannosaurus)

Pronounced: Rask-Tracks

WIP (2/3)

Rexhaust

Rex + Exhaust (The smoke released from a train's chimney)

Pronounced: Rek-zawst

WIP (3/3)

Drakostack

Draco + Smokestack (A Train's Chimney)

Pronounced: Drah-co-stak

WIP (3/3)

Draglev

"Dragon" + "Maglev"

Pronounced: "Druh-glev"

I know I've posted a lot today but now I'm out of WIPs. This is a bolder one from me. Maglev is a train system that is literally short for magnetic levitation, the magnet part might not work but the levitation part does since Chillie said he envisioned this mon learning Fly. I'm not super proud of this one, since it's not a super accessible name, not to mention it's a stretch, but I wanted to experiment with more train names. If it helps, you could always take this name to just mean "dragon that levitates" while ignoring that it is a reference to a kind of train.
