Hello everyone!
I have only just joined Smogon a few months ago, and decided (a bit foolishly I guess) to sign up for the DPP tournament. I created a team for DPP, but it is not doing well. Do you think you could help me point out what can be improved?
Team:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
Scizor is my starting Pokemon. Scizor has a nice defensive typing, making it only weak to Fire-type moves (Heatran and Infernape will destroy it though). U-turn helps switch to a new Pokemon while dealing damage, and is very effective against Psychic types, taking off a good chunk of their hp. Puirsuit is for Dark-type coverage, Superpower for fighting-type, and Bullet Punch STAB priority attack. Choice Band is to increase damage, and makes it a very physical attacker.
Rotom-Frost @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 64 HP / 228 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Charge Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
Rotom-A is my ghost type, and helps stall Machamp, Lucario and Infernape in a fighting type dominant meta game. Ghost typing also allows it to hit Psychic-types hard, though it fails a bit with Jirachi. Shadow Ball is for STAB, Substitute is for Charge Beam and Thunderbolt for a more powerful electric attack. Or is HP fighting better? Anyway, SubCharge is very useful, hiding behind Substitute while increasing Sp. Atk. It also hits Fighting-types hard as Thunderbolt usually OHKOes or 2HKOes most Infernape, and with a Sp. Atk boost, I expect it would kill other Fighting-types too.
Cresselia @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 40 SpD / 68 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave
- Ice Beam
Cresselia was pulled out from a Smogon guide to help kill Dragonite. I used Dual Screens as support to my team, though I realized I only use it late-game. Thunder Wave is for paralysis, and Ice Beam is for killing Dragonite, Flygon, and other dragons I may find. Light Clay helps extend the duration of Reflect and Light Screen.
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Naive Nature
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Magnet Rise
Magnezone is my forte. Electric-Steel with Magnet Rise is hard to defeat when it goes first, and I found out it usually speeds most Metagross. Magnet Rise saves it from most Earthquake users and putting in Substitute destroys explosion and saves me from death(lol). Thunderbolt is for STAB(like Rotom-A, Thunderbolt OHKOes or 2HKOes Fighting-types), HP Fire is for pesky Steel-types like Metagross, Scizor and Jirachi. Unfortunately, it is quickly killed by Superpower Scizor and Infernape that outspeed it.
Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Claw
Flygon is my primary Ground and Dragon type. Outrage is for primary Dragon type move, and Dragon Claw for backup. Stone Edge for Flying types, Earthquake for Electric-types (except Zapdos of course). As my only Earthquake user, I find I depend on it to kill Steel-types for me, and I find it dies rather easily...
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Ice Beam
Last of all, Suicune is my Water-type. Ice Beam for backup dragon killer when my Cresselia is dead, Hydro Pump for STAB, Calm Mind for boosting Sp. Atk and Sp. Def when my opponent is guaranteed to switch, and HP Electric for Water-types when my Magnezone and Rotom is dead. I feel that I rely on Suicune too much though.
I haven’t found threats to my team in general, as the main Pokemon that break up my team are Pokemon outside the norm, like 252 speed Metagross and Tanky Dragons that can kill my Suicune.
Thanks for reading and hope you can find useful suggestions to my team!
P.S. I am a complete noob here so don’t ask why my team has so many loopholes :).
