Calm Mind (Iron Valiant)
[SET]
Iron Valiant @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Electric / Ghost / Steel
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moon Blast
- Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast / Encore
[SET COMMENT]
With a wide variety of special coverage moves and a great Speed stat, Calm Mind Iron Valiant is one of the best sweepers and cleaners in the tier. Speed Booster Energy allows it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame, as well as setup sweepers like Mega Gyarados, Great Tusk, and Dragonite at +1 without being Choice locked. Moonblast is its most spammable STAB move, since most Steel-types are threatened by Focus Blast, leaving Galarian Slowking as one of its few reliable checks. Thunderbolt provides valuable coverage against Water-types like Alomomola and Toxapex, while Shadow Ball hits Galarian Slowking super effectively. Focus Blast is Iron Valiant's strongest STAB move, OHKOing common Steel-type walls at +1 such as Mega Scizor after a decent amount of chip damage, Ferrothorn, and Heatran. Encore prevents sweeps from setup Pokemon like Volcarona and lets Iron Valiant set up against Pokemon like Alomomola and Toxapex. Tera Electric makes Iron Valiant immune to paralysis from walls like Ferrothorn and Galarian Slowking while allowing Thunderbolt to OHKO Alomomola and specially defensive Toxapex after minimal chip at +1. Tera Ghost grants Iron Valiant a resistance to Poison-type moves and gives Shadow Ball a STAB boost, allowing it to better take advantage of its coverage and 2HKO Galarian Slowking with minimal chip or at +1. Tera Steel is a good defensive type that helps Iron Valiant set up on the likes of Alomomola and Choice-locked Tapu Lele and provides a resistance to priority moves such as Bullet Punch, Ice Shard, and Extreme Speed. It can also be paired with Encore to turn Galarian Slowking into setup fodder by locking it into Sludge Bomb. Iron Valiant appreciates teammates like Great Tusk, Dragonite, and Mega Scizor that overwhelm common special walls in Galarian Slowking, Heatran, and Blissey, letting it sweep. Knock Off support from the likes of Mega Scizor and Tyranitar is also appreciated, as removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Galarian Slowking, Blissey, and Toxapex and Leftovers from Heatran and Ferrothorn can help position Iron Valiant to sweep.
