BW OU (Peaked #23, 1608 PO) Hyper Dragon Offense

I was bored one day and decided, hey let's try hyper offense. It was my favorite style to play in Gen 4 and it's been my most successful team so far in Gen 5.

Quick update: modified Scizor's and Cloyster's moveset

At a glance: Azelf, Haxorus, Salamence, Dragonite, Scizor and Cloyster

You're probably thinking, wtf, you're going to get raped by stall. And yes, I've had my share of troubles with stall teams, but if you play intelligently, you'll be able to break your way through, muscling through with the raw power of three dragons.

The "lead"
Azelf

Dual Screen Lead
Nature: Timid/Jolly (doesn't matter)
Ability: Levitate
Item: Light Clay
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Speed, 4 Defense
Light Screen
Reflect
Stealth Rock
Taunt

Azelf is my "lead" setting up the screens for the dragons to come in and do their thing. After Reflect, it only takes a maximum of 50% from standard Tyranitar's Crunch and can proceed to set up rocks. If I see a Magic Bounce Espeon or Xatu, I set up my screens and go to the next mon. Trick scarfers have a tendency to mess me up a bit, but my team can handle them. Taunt is important for keeping rocks off of the field, as 3 of my pokemon are Stealth Rock weak.

Dragon #1
Haxorus

The "Moldbreaker"
Ability: Moldbreaker
Item: Lum Berry
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Taunt

Haxorus is a powerful threat under screens, it can handle most Ice Type attacks and taunt helps me save the Lum Berry for when I need it (i.e. confusion from Outrage). Taunt is also especially useful when Ferrothorn, Forretress and Skarmory come in on you expecting to get free entry hazards. At +2, Haxorus can 2HKO with the respective offensive move.

Dragon #2
Salamence

"Got power?"
Ability: Intimidate
Item: Lum Berry
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Fire Blast
Earthquake

Standard DD Mence, Fire Blast does fine even with a hindering nature. Can come in on Earthquakes or fighting attacks. Intimidate works wonders in handling those boosting sweepers.

Dragon #3
Dragonite

Ability: Multiscale
Item: Lum Berry
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Sp. Def
Dragon Dance
Fire Punch
Dragon Claw
Extremespeed

Standard offensive Dragon Dance Dragonite, I run a jolly nature, because quite frankly, speed is crucial to the team. I already have two powerful dragons that can spam Outrage left and right, 2HKOing most steel types in the metagame (I.E. Jirachi, Heatran). Dragonite's here to do the dirty work and clean up after his brothers have left the battered remains on the battlefield. Multiscale means that most moves will not OHKO him, guaranteeing him at least one DD, Dragon Claw and Fire Punch are standard moves, and Extreme Speed is there to pick off weakened mons with priority (I'm looking at you Scizor... speaking of which..)

Scizor

Ability: Technician
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Sp. Def
Bullet Punch
Swords Dance
Aerial Ace
Superpower

Scizor's the perfect complement to the three dragon team that has a little bit of trouble with Terrakion. Bullet Punch is often threatening enough to scare it away. Pretty standard moveset. I've opted for Superpower to one shot Magnezone and 2HKO Skarmory at +2. Aerial Ace is my coverage move, which helps against Conkuldurr.

And lastly
Cloyster

Ability: Skill Link
Nature: Naive
Item: White Herb/King's Rock
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Sp. Attack
Shell Smash
Icicle Spear
Rock Blast
Hydro Pump

One of my favorite new toys in Gen 5, Shell Smash Cloyster takes out everything except for Jellicent and Tentacruel and a couple of other super bulky mons which are handled by other members of my team. After one Shell Smash, not even the fastest of Scarfers can out speed and kill this thing. Scizor's Bullet Punch is only good enough to 2HKO with rocks up. The only thing this thing's afraid of is a special Lucario's Vacuum Wave which is extremely rare.

Notable Threat List: Will finish later and update, defensive threats are done, I don't really have too much of a problem with offensive threats.

  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - U-Turning, once locked into a move, my other mons can set up and kill.
Cloyster:
  • Shell Smash - Taunt
  • Utility - Haven't seen one
Mamoswine:
  • Physical Attacker - Doesn't do anything to Azelf after Reflect
  • Focus Sash + Endeavor - Taunted and under a reflect, Shell Smash and Icicle Spear from Cloyster will kill it.
Darmanitan:
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Band - Reflect
Tornadus:
  • Rain Abuser - Dragon Dance and Dragon Claw from Dragonite, Bullet Punch from Scizor
  • Choice Specs - Dragon Dance and Dragon Claw from Dragonite, Bullet Punch from Scizor (Very threatening late game)
Abomasnow:
  • Choice Scarf - Can be annoying, but Bullet Punch owns it and scarfed blizzard means I can come in with Scizor or Cloyster and proceed to set up
  • SubSeed - Taunt
  • Mixed Attacker - Dual Screens and Taunt from Azelf stop it from doing anything useful
Alakazam:
  • Substitute + 3 Attacks - Not too worried, I outspeed and ko after a DD
  • Offensive Calm Mind - Again, not too worried, outspeed after a dragon dance/shell smash
  • Focus Sash - Two priority users, will get at least one kill on my mons if I'm weakened.
Azelf:
  • Dual Screens - (What I'm using) Annoying if I lose the spead tie
  • Lead - Can be annoying if I lose the speed tie and it taunts me.
  • Nasty Plot - Haven't seen one, but could take out most of my team, smart playing and screens.
  • Choice Band - U-Turn is annoying, and nothing likes a banded Ice Punch, but once locked into a move, I can set up with the respective mon
Azumarill:
  • Choice Band - 4 out of my 5 sweepers resist aqua jet, superpower doesn't do much to cloyster considering it's 396 defense stat.
Deoxys-D:
  • Fast Spiker - taunt
Dugtrio:
  • Focus Sash - Not too threatening, Mence usually KOs after intimidate, reversal doesn't do much, have to worry a bit about stone edge
  • Choice Band - see above
Empoleon:
  • Agility -
  • Choice Specs -
Gorebyss:
  • SmashPass - taunt, also not very bulky
  • Shell Smash Sweeper - see above
Kingdra:
  • Dragon Dance - Taunt, (my dragons will outspeed and kill)
  • Rain Dance - See above
  • Choice Specs - A little more interesting to deal with because nothing likes to take a draco meteor except for Scizor, I don't run rain so I don't have to worry about it outspeeding me
Kyurem:
  • Choice - Hax and Mence outspeed and can KO, scarf versions will take a bullet punch
  • Substitute + 3 Attacks - taunt to prevent subs, see above
Victini:
  • Choice Band / Scarf - Scarf U-Turn can be an annoying scout but doesn't really do too much.
  • Physical Attacker - Reflect and then let the dragons do their thing.
Stoutland:
  • Choice Band - Sand Rush is annoying, but Scizor threatens it with Bullet Punch, Mence can intimidate it as well.
Smeargle:
  • Baton Pass - Taunt
Sharpedo:
  • Speed Boost - Can't boost it's attack, Salamence can usually come in and intimidate this thing when it goes for the protect.
Rotom-C:
  • Choice Scarf / Choice Specs - Outrage
  • Support - Outrage

Standard OU Defensive Threats

Tyranitar:
  • Specially Defensive - Not a problem, Crunch barely does anything after a Reflect, I can usually Taunt and get rocks up with Azelf.
Rotom-W:
  • Standard - Volt Switch doesn't do much after a Light Screen, Moldbreaker EQ owns it.
Ferrothorn:
  • Standard - Taunt from Azelf and Haxorus usually let me shut it down. Fire Blast and Fire Punch from Dragonite handles it well.
Politoed:
  • Defensive - Scald does nothing even with burn to Azelf under light screen, on average hitting it for 26%. Encore, Toxic, Perish Song are prevented with Taunt.
Gliscor:
  • Swords Dance - Cloyster owns this.
  • Substitute + Protect - Taunt from Azelf or Haxorus
  • AcroBat - Reflect helps me deal with this guy and then Cloyster
  • Defensive - Cloyster
Heatran:
  • Specially Defensive - EQ from Haxorus or Mence will take this thing out.
Jirachi:
  • Specially Defensive - Paralysis sucks, which is why I have Lum Berries on my dragons, +1 EQ from Mence or Hax will take it out.
Skarmory:
  • Physically Defensive Spiker - This thing sucks, taunt to shut it down with Azelf or Haxorus, completely walls Scizor.
  • Specially Defensive Spiker - So much easier to handle, at +1 Outrage is a guaranteed 2HKO from Haxorus
Ninetales:
  • Specially Defensive - lol what? Light Screen, Taunt from Azelf to shut it down.
Celebi:
  • Physically Defensive - This thing is much more threatening if it's carrying HP Ice, Scizor will take care of it there, Dragons will handle it if it has HP Fire.
Forretress:
  • Physically Defensive Spiker - Taunt (Volt Switch does pitiful damage, have to worry a little bit about Gyro Ball)
  • Specially Defensive Spiker - Taunt
Gyarados:
  • RestTalk - Taunt to shut it down. Dragon Tail can be annoying, but I'll keep blasting away with my Dragons.
Jellicent:
  • Utility Counter - Annoying, but I can handle most variants of this guy.
Tentacruel:
  • Toxic Spikes - EQ from Mence or Hax
Gastrodon:
  • Tank - +1 Outrage handles it well.
Espeon:
  • Dual Screens - Gotta be careful not to Taunt or Set up Rocks, I go for the Screens and try to beat it with Scizor's Brick Break
  • Baton Pass - Dragon Dance up and kill behind screens
Blissey:
  • Support - Not really a threat
Vaporeon:
  • Wish Support - Haxorus, taunt and Outrage
Latias:
  • Support - Not too threatening, Haxorus can outspeed and KO if it's bold.
Bronzong:
  • Tank - Taunt, DD and EQ from Haxorus
  • Dual Screens - See above
Swampert:
  • Defensive - Swords Dance and Bug Bite from Scizor
Mew:
  • Stallbreaker - Kind of annoying, but Taunt to shut it down and attempt to kill with boosted Outrages.
Slowbro:
  • Tank - This thing is very annoying, taunt to shut down Thunder Wave, Ice Beam kill dragons, but usually it can only successfully handle one dragon, the second one will come in and take it down.
Quagsire:
  • Curse - Taunt, Outrage
  • Specially Defensive - Taunt, Outrage
  • Physically Defensive - See above (Moldbreaker goes through Unaware) Most annoying type to face.
Cresselia:
  • Support - Can be very annoying, again I have two Taunters to try and shut it down, Lum Berry to take one status hit which should be enough from me to try and take it out with the dragons or Scizor
  • Dual Screens - Lunar Dance can be annoying, but usually smart switching is the answer here.
Deoxys-D:
  • Bulky Spiker - Taunt
  • Toxic Staller - Taunt
Empoleon:
  • Specially Defensive - Haven't seen too many, but it can't really take an EQ
Hippowdon:
  • Physical Tank - Taunt, then go to Cloyster
Xatu:
  • Standard - annoying if it has Thunder Wave, but again raw power.
  • Dual Screens - Set up Screens and U-Turns, Scizor can remove screens with brick break.
Wobbuffet:
  • Bulky - Taunters will shut it down, can't really do anything unless it Encores. Countering Icicle Spear only counters the last hit of the attack.
Whimsicott:
  • Prankster - Priority Stun Spore and Encore can be annoying, but that's about it.
Tangrowth:
  • Physically Defensive - Annoying, but Taunt and Outrage are usually enough to take it out.
Sableye:
  • Prankster - Annoying if it has Will-O-Wisp, Lagging Tail tricking also is a pain in the ass. Not very bulky though, so Outrages will take it out if I get my dragons in cleanly.
Porygon2:
  • Defensive - Annoying, but Scizor and Cloyster can handle it. Also Taunt bait.
Chansey:
  • Support - Not really a threat, worst it can do is paralyze.

Hey Truedge,
The only thing that I have a concern of just by skimming over your RMT is how do you set screens back up when they dissipate. It seems to me that bringing Azelf back in would mess up your momentum. Also, I love playing Hyper Offense and Dragon types really are the way to go. My only qualm is that all three of your dragons are physical sweepers. I wonder how well the team would do with Lati@s instead of one of the other dragons (probably Mence). The only problem is that it can't boost Sp. Atk. and Speed at the same time, but Draco Meteor with LO deals plenty of damage anyway and Lati@s is pretty fast as is.

I remember(you probably do too) playing this team on the ladder 3 days ago.
The problem you had was that, since i was able to get rocks up(most players will find a way) i was able to wall and KO your entire team with just slowbro.

I would recommend adding either a Latios, or fitting in Draco Meteor with a neutral sp.atk nature on salamence, which does about 86% to slowbro.
This will allow you to then DD up while the opp switched out to get regenrator.

Alternatively you could run a Choice Banded Dragonite. Slowbro is easily 2hkoed when he switches in to a banded Dragonite Outrage. Its very important because slowbro will always switch in the instant he sees a dragonite, and he will have to switch out or get killed. Basically, the opp loses one of their pokemon if he is caught off guard by outrage.

Guys, Hyper Offense is a dual screener with 5 set up sweepers.

It's also like Motagua and Mostwanted's teams.

There's no real definition for it, you can use it however you want, but this was the kind I was taught and learned. No special sweeper should be on a physical HO team. But that's not set in stone, so it can be. But most people who use this kind of hyper offense want it either physical or special.

Don't troll me, just saying what I know.

Anyway, nice team! However, I do suggest Naive > Jolly on Salamence. You still get the speed but Fire Blast will get harder which could really help the offensive momentum for this team. On Haxorus, I suggest Life Orb > Lum Berry. I know that the hp drop and loss of confusion is unappealing, but the LO could really help late-game and with denting the other Pokemon. For Scizor I recommend Superpower > Brick Break. I know that the drops in attack and defense is bad, but the increase in power will be better for the team. As for Dragonite, try using Outrage > Dragon Claw. Again, power. You will also recover from confusion with Lum Berry so it's a good fit for that set.

I've played HO for almost a year now and I've tested all of these. I hope that you'll test these to see what better suits your team. :)

Edit: luvdisc <3

Edit: oh, yes, what nature is Azelf? I would imagine it would be Jolly/Timid :)

He wears them down with Haxorus or Dragonite or the like and once they (dragonite or haxorus) die he finishes them (physical wall) off with Salamence or Scizor.

What Redew said. This is a heavy physical offensive team, the idea is that teams generally only carry one dedicated one physical wall, and usually at most 2 steel types, which means the raw power of 3 dragons usually ends in a sweep.

If I see I need to do early damage, go to Haxorus, if I see I can get a two turn setup with Nite, I'll opt for that and lastly, if I need the "mixed" sweeping option, I'll go to Salamence. Scizor and Cloyster are awesome support attackers in that they go their own rampages if the opponent's locked into a move that won't do much. (IE Landorus' Choice Scarf HP Ice being a common move.)

@Redew, thanks for the suggestions, I'll try the Superpower idea and maybe Naive'll help me get those KO's on Ferrothorn in the rain. Otherwise Ferrothorn and Skarm don't really give me too many problems and Jolly helps me survive those Ice Beams if I have a screen up. LO Haxorus would get that 2HKO on Skarm so maybe I'll give that a shot as well.

Thanks for reading guys.

Ripamon does have a point with walling with Slowbro. Stall teams can give this team a HUGE problem especially since they have typically have 3 physical walls and not just one like you said most teams do. The main problem with this team is that it is too physically-based and takes far too much damage from hazards because of your lack of a rapid spinner.

If a more advanced stall player were to get up their hazards on you, they can easily switch out to the appropriate counter to each one of your Pokémon and proceed to either deal damage to it or phaze it out to rack up hazards damage. They might not even need their special walls for the battle, maybe only as fodder.

Starmie gives you more problems than you might think. You have three dragons weak to ice beam and Cloyster is not going to be taking a Life Orb Thunderbolt/Thunder. All Scizor can do to it is U-turn on it and hope it can live a Hydro Pump. Your best bet is to replace Dragon Dance Salamence (since you have two other DD pokes anyways) with a Scarf Moxiemence.

Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

I won't try to change your mind about anything else seeing as how you really wanted this to be a physical team, but just know that any solid stall team can shut yours down by completely walling the heck out of you.

Oh, one more thing. Taunt can't save all your problems since you could possibly be locked into Outrage with a Pokémon and your opponent proceeds to send in something like a Skarmory and set up Stealth Rock / Spikes. Just watch out for that.

But in any case, hope I helped, and good luck!

with cloysters bad bulk, salamences and dragonites weakness to SR, you need a spinner! Without a spinner, after you set up a DD you'll probably just end up dieing or at least it'll hurt your ability to sweep. So I suggest that you remove one of your three dragons, I suggest getting rid of haxorous, since he is the worst in my opinion(at least for this team).

I would replace him with tentacruel, with a LO. This will let you set up toxic spikes for added damage(to help kill stall also), spin, help against the ever present rain teams, with ice beam he'll help with dragons, and be another versatile offensive poke!

Secondly since you have DD on sala and on D-nite I suggest changing one of these into somethhing else. Yes I know the point of your team is to get screens up so your dragons can come in and safely dance a couple times then wipe out all the other pokes, but honestly you'll probably only setup screens once, maybe twice, before azelf dies. So, I believe you need a revenge killer. Meaning you need a scarfed mence!

Scarfed mence can help revenge kill lots of stuff and just provide more pressure for your offensive team so you can rack up SR damage on the switch!

***Edit: Just realized Ibanez already suggested scarfed mence. So, I guess I'm just seconding his suggestion!

destinyunknown

Banned deucer.
I think your team would beneficiate a lot from using either SD Lucario on Salamence's place, mainly because it would keep the physically offensive pressure of your team while also being a quick way to beat stall teams easily.

Lucario@Life Orb
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spe
Nature Adamant
-Swords Dance
-Close Combat
-Extreme Speed
-Ice Punch
Oh, and you probably might want to try Superpower on Scizor, since that allows him to 2HKO Skarmory (it deals ~80% at +2 and it 2HKOes despite he uses roost or not). I would also suggest a much bulkier spread of 224 HP/ 252 Atk/ 32 Spe because it makes much easier to set up Scizor, even if screens aren't up.

Good luck!

Alright, being that it's a Dragon Spam team, I really would recommend using Magnezone to deal with Steels and Physical Walls, most notably Skarmory. Any Magnezone will do, possibly over Scizor or Cloyster.

I'd also like to say that if there's a layer of Stealth Rock, anything with a speed higher than 328 and Ice Beam will likely be able to steam roll strait through your team. Most teams like these only require 1 set up sweeper. So I suggest keeping Dragonite as it is, then turning Salamence into the Scarf set for a late game sweep and revenge killing, and then giving Haxorus the Choice Band for wall breaking. Because you always want to diversify your Pokemon.

Don't suggest Magnezone or scarfed Pokemon. I know what the OP is aiming at and this is not how you play Hyper Offense.

1 dual screener and 5 set up sweepers. It's not that hard.

Oh, and I second the SD Lucario instead of Salamence.

Lavos

Banned deucer.
Truedge my son. Come sit on my lap and I will tell you a story. A story of how your Cloyster should be a Rapid Spin set instead of Shell Smash sweeper, because you've got like 3 or 4 mons on your team that take it up the @$$ from rocks.

Cloyster @ Leftovers
Trait: Skill Link
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Atk / 176 Def
- Icicle Spear
- Rapid Spin
- Shell Smash
- Rock Blast

you got the best of both worlds right there, both sweeping potential and rapid spinning to help your dragons etc...keep laddering boi and glglgl

Thanks for the rate Lavos, I tried it but there wasn't enough raw power on it for me. Anyone else give this team a shot?

We know all that this team is an offensive but the lack of spinner is crippling. I propose you starmie.Thunderbolt/Thunder-Hydropump-rapid spin-Rain dance/ice beam. You will have a spinn and one anti-weather+un sweep Otherwise altogether the team remains correct GG.

Cool dragon team but it lacks speed so I would make Mence the scarf Moxmence:
Salamence (F) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Dragon Claw
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

Also I would thing about adding magnezone to get rid of steels who threaten your heavy dragon team as you really have nothing for bulky steels like skarmory who can sponge the baited Outrage then whirlwind it out. Overall solid team though, it proves how effective Dragons can be in the metagame, just like the glacial calitysm team.

To have a more solid backup vs stall and offensive teams at the same time, I reccomand to go with Outrage > Dragon Claw on Dragonite and Adamant > Jolly nature, this in order to weak badly steel types and physical walls, in order to then sweep with a ScarfMoxieMence

Salamence @ Choice Scarf
252 Atk | 4 SAtk | 252 Speed
Naughty | Moxie
Earthquake | Outrage | Dragon Claw | Fire Blast

this set would also benefit Jolly Haxorus Dragon Dancing and killing some fast treaths under the screens. Against offensive teams, you finally get a revengekiller to deal with things as Timid LO Zapdos or Latios.

Hope I helped, gl.
