ORAS OU Altaria, Second Coming (1931 Elo, Rank #10, 85.7 GXE)

Introduction
Hey, Dead On Arrival here. I'm back with my second RMT. I know a couple of you have been waiting for this RMT, and I apologize for the wait. This team is basically a remake of my last team to better suit the current metagame. My first RMT can be viewed here: (http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/chansey-cloud-offense-1925-elo-rank-11.3569403/#post-6752267).

Teambuilding

As with my last team, I have a defensive core of Skarmory and Chansey. This gives me access to both spikes and stealth rocks along with a phaser to force out setups.

The combination of Keldeo and Bisharp enables me to take out opposing steel types that threaten my team and opposing psychic types that threaten Keldeo. Additionally, the hazards acts as bait for incoming defoggers as my Bisharp carries pursuit and gets the defiant attack boost.
Altaria and Slowbro act as secondary walls and play as countermeasures against threats such as mega medicham or mega heracross. Additionally, my Altaria set enables it take a chunk out of incoming steel pokemon.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The team:

Miyu (Altaria) (F) @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 108 SpA / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Heal Bell

My Altaria runs a personalized EV spread of 248 HP / 136 Def / 108 SpA / 16 Spe. Miyu's build enables it to counter mega heracross and allows it live a ice punch following a fake out from mega medicham. In addition, my spread allows Altaria to 2HKO both physically defensive Rotom- W and Offensive Charizard X. 16 Spe allows it outspeed adamant max speed azumarill. Altaria is my primary counter to keldeo and easily disposes of the sub calm mind set. With flamethrower, Miyu acts as a lure and hits incoming steel pokemon.

SlowSis (Slowbro) (F) @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind

For my second pokemon, I have Slowbro. Slowbro is my primary counter against talonflame and mega medicham, which can pose as possible threats to my team. After a +1, it is able to take down specially defensive talonflame sets. Furthermore, using calm mind, it is able to stalemate calm mind clefable, and beat it with psyshock. You can use this method against crocune as well. With Colbur Berry, Slowbro can set up and fire off a scald before getting forced to switch out from any confrontational dark types. When i run slowbro, its item usually gets knocked off anyway, and colbur allows slowbro to live a +2 knock off from adamant life orb bisharp. It's been a pretty convenient item for me.

Siren (Keldeo-Resolute) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
Keldeo is necessary asset to my team. I run hidden power ice as opposed to icy wind to encourage the OHKO on tankchomp. Specs Keldeo helps me eliminate steel walls quickly and with allows Siren to finish off a weakened manaphy. In additional, Siren is a compulsory check against stallbreaker gliscor and bisharp . Keldeo's role as a speical attacker is pretty much self explanatory.

Larva (Bisharp) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
Bisharp is easily my favorite assault vest user. With assault vest, it can switch in to a boosted moonblast from clefable and chance for a defiant boost. In addition, with pursuit I am able to pursuit trap opposing jirachi's, something that tyranitar doesn't do well. Larve is my switch in against defoggers as well as my counter against fairy types. The 96 speed investment is to outspeed both adamant 252 speed azumarill and to pursuit kill shedinja before it can baton pass out.

Andromeda (Chansey) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock

The blob. Obviously, chansey takes the role as a mixed / special wall on my team. Due to its bulk, it allows me to set up stealth rocks very early in the game and under various circumstances too. Thunder wave is there to paralyze incoming pokemon, and chance for a parahax kill. Seismic Toss is there to break substitues... as with Keldeo, Chansey is very self explanatory.

BladePrincess (Skarmory) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Spikes
-Roar
Bladeprincess is my team's primary physical wall and it's phaser/hazard shuffler. As I've previously mentioned, brave bird is a great lure that hits keldeo switch in's, or any fighting switches for that matter. Brave bird hits breloom, and mega heracross for a significant amount of damage. Spikes is there to maximize the hazard damage. Before you guys go yelling at me for using roar over whirlwind (lol), I would like to say that it never really posed a problem for me. I just happen to always click roar first when I'm building teams and I forget to change it. Most soundproof pokemon aren't used, and on many occasions the people that use them aren't very good. I wouldn't mind prolonging the game for the fun of it lol. Feel free to change it though.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Threats ):
Curse Gastrodon
Hahahahahaha... just /forfeit. I have nothing to beat this once it sets up. Luckily, its not particularly common and far from the best in this metagame.

Mega Slowbro
Lol. Paralyze it with chansey, and hope for the best. Luckily, its not too hard to hax mega slowbro. Also, you can PP stall it with our own calm mind slowbro.

Thunder Punch Metagross
Paralyze it, hit it with bisharp. I really don't have any good switches into thunder punch metagross. Especially if it carries power up punch in conjunction with thunder punch.

Thunder Punch Medicham
Same circumstances as with thunder punch metagross. But in this case, my teams has altaria which can sometimes handle medicham, depending on the variant.

Nice team - I've played against you using it a few times (alt: ben68). I would suggest that rocky helmet is much better than lefties since it punishes u-turners and spinners. (I always think helmet or shed shell is the way to go.)

You are also a little weak to toxic spikes and have nothing that stops reflect type starmie or excadrill spinning. Altaria/Pinsir + magnezone could be threatening to your team as well.

Assault vest Bisharp is a god and I use it and colbur slowbro too!

So:
helmet skarm: helps vs excadrill (free spins) and volt-turn.
shed shell skarm: helps vs magnezone + sweeper teams.

time to post one of my curse gastro teams.

Hello there, nice team

At first glance I noticed a glaring weakness to hazards. If you are facing a team of hippowdon ferrothorn, they can both get at least one layer of hazard on your skarm because all you can do is whirlwind them out. Keldeo and Bisharp have no form of recovery so they can easily get beaten just to hazards. I suggest running defog over spikes on skarm as it makes you less weak to hazards. I know spikes are good for keldeo but..with your keldeo set a switchin would be amoongus or slowbro. Hp bug does very little to amoonguss so that means amongus can switchin if at full to 3 layers of spikes + stealth rock and still be able to survive the hp bug. Once it lives it can just switch out into their dedicated bug resist and easily get back it's hp thanks to regenerator.

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Defog
- Roar

Next, you said that altaria is your dedicated Keldeo counter, as slowbro could easily get caught by hpelec/bug or scald burns. Altaria could also get scald burn leaving it in 2hko range of scarf keldeo hidden power ice. So I think running heal bell on chansey would help altaria as if you happen to get burned by keldeo's scald, you can easily go into chansey and heal bell preventing your altaria from dying to Keldeo's potential hp ice. Heal Bell could also help bisharp in case it gets burned by rotom's will-o-wisp. This can also help skarmory live longer as it doesn't have to deal with the constant 6% every turn. I think thunder wave should be replaced as heal bell helps the team survive much longer than it would if poisoned/burned and thunder wave isn't a great mega slowbro counter.

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock

This team is extremely weak to mega slowbro. While you do have altaria which can dent it before it sets up, thats pretty much it. I suggest using Hidden Power Bug on Keldeo. HPBUG allows you to catch an incoming slowbro as slowbro is seen as a keldeo switchin. If the slowbro is their mega this puts you in an amazing situation as you don't need to deal with a threat to your team.

Keldeo (Keldeo-Resolute) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpD
- Hidden Power [Bug]
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword

Thank you for reading, I hope you try these sets out as I think I make your team better, if you spot any weaknesses with my sets please notify me.
CALCS

Hey, I didn't know this smogon account was yours, lol. I do remember playing you a couple of times, you always ran some extreme offense team that kept me on edge. I've considered rocky helmet before, but leftovers has saved me a couple of times. But I'll definitely consider it since I do have a multitude of bulky pokemon on this team.

Hey,

Rocky Helmet on Skarmory would be better. It already has nice recovery, that little bit of extra damage will help a lot since Skarmory doesn't do much damage of it's own. Your Bisharp seems interesting and it can be very dangerous, but it's always a bit risky to use Assault Vest on pokemon that can't recover like Conkeldurr, Tangrowth or Slowbro. I would prefer Black Glasses/Life Orb on Bisharp. Thats how i would play it on this team.

Good luck!
I've actually thought about black glasses before, as a means to hit slowbro harder, lol. However, when it comes to mega slowbro, it still doesn't do quite enough though. And AV is better against things such as Stall breaker Togekiss.

I've tried defog skarmory a number of times, and I didn't like the use of it. It's a contradicting move to many of my teams. Since I'm removing the hazards before phasing them out, so they don't take any hazard damage when I do. I kinda need the damage on some things such as mega metagross. Hidden Power Bug is an interesting Concept, so ill consider it. However, heal bell does work really well on Altaria. And I can easily scout what Keldeo's moveset as I have both slowbro and altaria. Icy Wind/HP ice Keldeo isn't something that really worries this team, lol.

hey man, using a offensive core in Keldeo + Bisharp and a defensive solid backbone in Skarm + Chansey turns the team in a solid balance squad that have solid answers to most of the threats in OU and doesnt lose offensive capabilities due to the offensive Core. Glad to see an Altaria especially when just drop to UU due to low usage, think is an underrated mon because you can go with DD, agility or a Support set as u did. I've never use Colbur Slowbro because i think the passive recovery is always nice as people tends to deal with a CM bro due to status most common burn or toxic, so a passive recovery is always nice, however if colbur works for you i gotta tried some day.

Reading your threat list TPuch Fighting types are hard to play around, Slowbro is the best switch in you can get for Medicham so you cannot do to much there, just play around it and revenge it with keld; for metagross chansey can take any 1 attack and twave'd and then you handle it better with Skarm + Hazards or just revenge it with Keld or Bish. Also i think hazards are very problematic for your team as you dont have a hazard removal and due to the structure of your team only a Spiner fits there, the problem is where. And last Magne + Pinsir just 6-0'ed you so i leave you a few suggestions:
  • First thing is hazards, i think the solution here is Bulky Exca > Bisharp, however you lose a priority mon, but both satisfy the same rol bar pusuit traping, which i know is important in your build. SO you have to choose or just give it a try.
  • To deal with Gastrodon, HP Grass > HP Ice on keld definitely help you more, as Ice is only for Lati@s and you have a pursuit trapper so isnt necessary. Also help you against Azumarril, Slowbro, and Mega Gyarados.
  • And last to remedy the situation of Pinsir + Mag, just put Shed shell on skarm over leftovers and if you see this combo make sure that your skarm isnt knock off.
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
hope i help u and gl:toast:

I dont like the team coz it is the usual boring but still very effective Skarmory+Chansey and Keldeo+Bisharp core. But I like the fact that you are using Mega Altaria because it is dropping and Colbur Berry on Slowbro effectivly. Getting that Scald against Darktypes once is very useful.
