2023 PU Classic
2023 PU Circuit Information​

Tournament Rules:
  • Standard SS PU / USUM PU / ORAS PU / BW PU / DPP PU / ADV PU
  • Higher seed picks first format, loser of each game picks next format played
  • Best of five, single elimination. (At least one format will be left out in each matchup.)
  • Battles should take place on Pokemon Showdown!
  • Replays are mandatory!
  • Do not make baseless activity posts, get in contact with your opponent and report missed times / scheduling issues only.
  • Standard clauses apply.
  • All the usual Smogon rules regarding activity, timer, disconnection, and ghosting rules apply.

Standard Rules and Clauses:
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same Pokedex number on his team.
  • Sleep Clause: You cannot inflict sleep upon more than one member of the opposing team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Anything capable of intentionally creating an endless battle is banned.

Some Predicts
1. Eivor vs 16. eifo
Eivor had a super impressive run, claiming the first seed with some good all around play and winning ORAS cup while Eifo just barely got in. That being said Eifo is a solid player so I wouldn't rule them out but I think Eivor deserves his first seed prediction here.

2. Medeia vs 15. LpZ
Similar story to above with Medeia tying with Eivor for the first seed and winning ADV cup. LPZ showed strong all around play though so while I think it's unlikely they win the ADV game they might be able to make some noise in the other tiers.

3. avarice vs 14. Shaneghoul

4. sugar ovens vs 13. OranBerryBlissey10
OBB had an incredible SS Cup run but I think their knowledge outside of that is fairly lacking whereas Sugar Ovens should be a good all gens player here. Hard to see OBB taking this one even if they do take SS.

5. Leru vs 12. Staxi
Both good players but I think Leru is on another level in terms of general skill, putting forward a fantastic SS PU record up in SCL and being a skilled all gens player. Staxi is a strong player in their own right, and definitely capable of stealing a few games to upset, but I think Leru is definitely favoured here.

6. TheFranklin vs 11. MZ
Franklin had an incredible SS PU run where I think they're easily favoured here, but they fizzled out quite early in the other gens where I think MZ will be able to make up the difference just due to metagame knowledge.

7. Drud vs 10. Elfuseon
BW Cup finals rematch. I like Drud as an all gens player here, especially with him winning BW Cup on top of already being historically one of the strongest DPP PU players we have. I think this will be a tough upset for Elfuseon but I could see it happening with them taking some of SS / SM / ORAS

8. Banbadoro vs 9. DugZa
Banba had a very impressive run getting to ORAS Cup finals, but I simply don't see them as the same caliber of player as DugZa, especially in SS and SM.
