2010 music

I thought I'd never say this, but I was extremely disappointed by A Thousand Suns.
The Catalyst had me on my toes, but it stands alone as the only good song in the album, though Burning In The Skies is fairly decent.

more amazing dance music: chromeo's business casual, and underworld's barking. the first is like big, shiny electro and the second is just fucking HUGE arena techno. anyone into dance music should check out both.

also anyone who was left cold by the new porno's together should definitely check out magic kids' memphis. it's better than anything the NPs have done since twin cinema. guaranteed to put you in a good mood :>

so much fucking awesome music this year.

Tesseract and Tides of Man and I Am Abomination are my new finds so far today.
Ahahaha I Am Abomination, I'm such a sucker for that electro-orchestral-synth-doom bullshit u___u

Tides of Man is pretty cooool. I love the album cover. The guys got a killer voiceeee. Downloading.

Not sure what I think of Tesseract right now.

Also checking out that Miami Horror album and Himuro's stuff.

Mike posner's Cooler than me and Taio cruz's Dynamite. Are two songs I absolutely fell in love with this year. People who haven't heard them should definatly cheack them out. Dance/pop is pretty catchy sometimes...

Yeah, not sure about it yet, but not enough stand out tracks and not as heavy as I'd like are my initial thoughts.

can i direct you gentleman to this? probably my pick for aoty (so far)
this is the first full length LP off of Christopher Taylor's Terrible Records. he did the producing for the album and i'm absolutely in love with it (and admittedly i don't even like Grizzly Bear all that much!). vocals are smooth and heart-breaking. really, check it out. i also highly recommend watching the really creepy video for the track "Slow"!

I'm really loving Maroon 5's Hands All Over so far. It feels much more organic than the previous album. It matches, Songs About Jane, if not better imo. Also, A Year Without Rain by Selena Gomez is surprisingly not terrible.

A Thousand Suns is eh. I think it may have to grow on me.

Listening to BoA's Hurricane Venus, because KPop is coooool and better than Western mainstream pop (bar Gaga). Cool so far, Adrenaline is kinda awesome. But Korean is weeeeird.
KPop is such a guilty pleasure. New 2ne1 is really heavy auto-tuned, but It Hurts (Slow) is pretty good. Shady Girl by Sistar is pretty good too... as well as full on plastic pop can be anyways. Talking about kpop just isn't the same without the bickering and obsessive fans. (THIS IS TRUE KPOP YESSSS)

The new Flying Lotus is pretty great as well, but it's hard for me to say anything definitive since I just started listening to Cosmogramma and everything in that record is so great I'm just not able to get into the new one right now.

New Cloudkicker and Tides of Man are increeedibly good. I haven't even listened to all of Tides of Man yet but it's solid stuff, whereas Cloudkicker I have listened to all the way through and it's just... oh man. Beautiful every step of the way.

I'm hoping next week's Anamanaguchi single will be a tad more solid than their previous 2, but I have to question just how much material these guys can pump out in a single year, hell, even last week's was a remix.

MGMT's Congratulations is growing on me but... not alot.

Edit: I just have to say... thank god for Deschain, killer music in like every post u___u

[The] Slowest Runner [in All the World]: We, Burning Giraffes

i have to agree, you really are a service to this thread, deschain! ive really enjoyed a whole fucking lot of stuff you've recommended. stuff like little womens throat, cloudkicker (im usually really fucking picky when it comes to metal, but i really enjoyed the more experimental side of it), and that mix by reso.

on that last one, just holy fuck. i cant get over how amazing that thing is, especially the first track. listening to it makes it impossible to listen to any electronic music for a while because nothing can quite top that feeling you get when that thing kicks into gear. graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

ps i finally managed to track down (heh) the track list if you havent already seen it

holy crap

this new belle and sebastian album

i loved this pretty instantly, this is amazing guys

gonna make another "the rankings so far" list at the end of the month, this year has had so much to offer

highlights:

MGMT - Congratulations (fuck the haters, this sound is much more evolved than what they were before, although both are top notch)
Luminous Orange - Songs of Innocence (i luv this so much)
The Birthday Massacre - Pins and Needles (my guilty pleasure; although not as good as violet, i've had it on repeat for over 200 listens so..)
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (need to listen to it moar!)
Shugo Tokumaro - Port Entropy (Exit is superior, but this new album is fun as well)
Beach House - Teen Dream (a very good listen)
Sufjan Stevens - All Delighted People EP (everything he does is gold)
Joanna Newsome - Have One On Me (probably one of the best this year, gonna see her live in a week =D)
Vampire Weekend - Contra (very very good and a fun listen)

disappointments:
Deftones - Diamond Eyes (maybe I didn't listen to it enough)
Minus The Bear - Omni (it's not bad but they can do so much better)

As for The National, gotta listen to it from start to finish, but from what I've heard so far, not so keen on it.

as expected, flying lotus' pattern + grid world EP is a fantastic follow up to cosmogramma, and although i knew i'd enjoy it, i didn't expect anything like the track "kill your co-workers" which is currently blowing my mind.

im not sure i could say it tops cosmogramma neccesarily, but thats an album which really blends together into an hour of trippy beats and jazziness without any single moments you could pick out and be like "this is the greatest thing here", so having a track like that on this EP is refreshing. this track sounds like the greatest megaman boss theme ever created. in fact, this whole EP makes me want to go and finish megaman 10, lol.

das racist's new mixtape has quickly become my second favourite hip hop release this year (behind sir lucious, and not counting kanyes good friday stuff). that thing is just really fucking clever, and the first time for a while that the lyrics have been what have really drawn me in to something as opposed to the beats.

i could pick out loads of amazing lines, but my favourites are probably "i eat beats like dwight schrute" or when heems gives a "shoutout to tan lines" in "all tan everything". might edit when i remember more, just because it's fun.

edit also outside of "listening to the records on my wall", skream's outside the box is so boring. so, so boring.
