new burzum is just rehashed bullshit. totally worthless and not interesting.

new autechre is also a big disappointment, although they've been on the decline for a while now. early ambient autechre >>> "weird" idm autechre.

have one on me worst album of the year np.

Circa Survives new album looks promising since their first revealed song is great... so is Deftones new one..

Minus the Bear revealed some shit about the album and I hope its as awesome as it sounds.

Motion City Soundtrack's 'My Dinosaur Life' is amazing and I suggest everyone gives it a listen :) you can still listen to the entire album on their Myspace page.

im holding off have one on me until my preorder from amazon arrives. first time i've bought a cd for a long time, but it's for a few good reasons:

1.) ys was a completely life changing album
2.) the more i get into music the more guilty i feel for pirating things :(
3.) it's the length of 3 LPs. man.

on another note this is going to be a crazy year:

- new broken social scene
- new interpol
- new hold steady
- new new pornographers
- new national
- other stuff already mentioned like radiohead and arcade fire

while im at it i might as well mention my favourite albums of the year so far:

beach house's teen dream is sublime, and even though on my first listen norway was the only track to really blow me away, repeated listens have solidified it as a consistently great album and probably the best of the year so far (though i expect have one on me to take this position comfortably)

local natives gorilla manor is also a solid indie rock album. wide eyes (first track, which people should definitely listen to at least) is definitely a highlight, but some weak tracks keep the album as a whole down i feel.

i enjoyed owen pallett's heartland also, but choosing to listen to it is sometimes hard for a reason i cant really describe. some of the use of violins and strings is just really unconventional, but when i start listening to it im reminded of why i enjoy it.

“OMNI” — New album out May 4th on Dangerbird!
..Seattle-based quintet Minus the Bear are very excited to announce the release of their new album, OMNI, set for a May 4th release on Dangerbird Records. Produced by Grammy Award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket), OMNI showcases the quintet’s remarkable gift to craft visionary and gripping compositions, and with the assistance of Chiccarelli, revealing new layers in their songwriting as they pursue the next level in their inimitable musical style. With the exploration of erotic themes and fascinating tales of human sexual relationships, OMNI is a riveting new album of rich soundscapes illustrated by Minus The Bear’s trademark precision and tremendous growth as artistic lyricists and songwriters. Beginning April 21st, Minus the Bear will embark on a 6-week North American tour premiering these new tracks. Dates to be announced shortly. OMNI marks the first release for the band on Dangerbird.
With deep bass lines, mesmerizing syncopated guitar riffs, provocative lyrics and stimulating keyboards, OMNI explodes with a bursting energy and unpredictable experimentation. From lead-off single, MY TIME, which explores the band’s widescreen synth rock, to the punch of dueling guitars and keyboards on THE THIEF, from the intense psychedelicia of ANIMAL BACKWARDS to the driving rock of HOLD ME DOWN, OMNI continues Minus The Bear’s shape-shifting evolution and is a culmination of their past influences and present inspirations.
Over the years, Minus the Bear has won over legions of fans and critics with an exhilarating live show and a sound that is uniquely their own. With a devoted fan base, Minus the Bear sell out 2000-capacity venues nationwide whether on or off album cycle, have generated more than 13 million plays on MySpace, and continuously release new material (EPs and singles) to fan and critical acclaim.
Tour dates, track listing and more news to be announced shortly.
Sweet. The stylizing of the album title is kinda annoying, but I think it may just that the author uses caps for titles (song titles were all caps'd). Omni > OMNI

Ha, MTB's new album comes out on my brothers birthday, I'm pretty excited.

Motion City Soundtrack's 'My Dinosaur Life' is amazing and I suggest everyone gives it a listen :) you can still listen to the entire album on their Myspace page.
Don't really think it's for everyone, but if you're in to Pop-punk, then this is a masterpiece.

Josiah Wolf - Jet Lag
This is pretty awesome! It's very fun to listen to, Josiah is quite talented. I'd go so far to say that this is the second-best release this year imo, behind Heligoland. It's very interesting stylistically, definitely worth checking out.
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Gorillaz isn't really my thing, but this album isn't totally terrible. It has its moments - Rhinestone Eyes is pretty awesome, for starters. Not going to give up on it quite yet, maybe it'll grow on me.

Triptykon's debut album Eparistera Daimones is something I hope will be good, The frontman is Tom Warrior formerly of Celtic Frost and HellHammer.

The new Portugal The Man Came out around a week or 2 ago, I didn't notice, and a friend just told me today. I downloaded it and will be listening to it on a plane ride tomorrow. I will be updating this post with impressions later on this week.

EDIT: Alright, just listened to the album two times, and I must say it is rather lackluster. It's got a few decent songs, but compared to their previous works it doesn't even come close. I will be listening to it a few more times, but I doubt much will change.

I dont know where I heard this but "American Ghetto" is supposed to be full of songs that weren't included in The Satanic Satanists so it might not be as good quality wise (for me at least)

gotta say, this year is meh so far..

my top ten (out of 86, no order)

Foxy Shazam - Foxy Shazam
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis (better than "Ire Works" for sure)
Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
Tocotronic - Schall und Wahn
Caribou - Swim
Jonsi - Go
Liars - Sisterworld
Daughters - Daughters
Frightened Rabbits - The Winter of Mixed Drinks
Pantha Du Prince - Black Noise

i think this has been a good start to the year:

joanna newsom - have one on me
local natives - gorilla manor
beach house - teen dream
titus andronicus - the monitor
liars - sisterworld

although every time i listen to sisterworld i get as far as scissor and just think it probably wont get much better than that and stop. seriously fantastic track, and the video for it is perfect. like, perfect.

also everyone needs to listen to keepaway - baby style ep

you might have heard yellow wings already as it's been circulating the intranet and is probably the standout track, but this is a really solid ep. kind of hard to describe, but the closest reference point is definitely merriweather post pavillion. it's sort of wavy, synthy pop with alot of vocal harmonies and aaaaaaahing, with the exception of yellow wings which has the kind of rhythmic drumming and crazy tribal-sounding sampling that brother sport perfected on mpp. the lead singer even sounds scarily like panda bear on some tracks. everyone go download this right now.

really though all the good stuff is coming out at the start of may.

i'm really waiting for the new coldplay album, will come out around christmas...
otherwise i'm going to a mark knopfler concert which is pretty awesome too.

Titus Andronicus's new album was pretty damn sick.

Also excited for Animal Collective's new album.
Radiohead might be coming out with and album too.
Arcade Fire has an album for the second half of the year too.

Uhhh great year for music.

Speaking of great, has anyone heard MGMT's new preview song Flash Delirium from their new album. If the album sounds anything like that then it's shaping up to be amazing.

i have the exact same problem. and yeah, it doesn't get any better than Scissor. everything else is underwhelming after that save for 1 or 2 songs.

Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself was average.

Teen Dream was average. sticking with Slowdive / A Sunny Day in Glasgow.

Daughters - Daughters was kickass.

Plastic Beach had like 3 good songs.

Eluvium - Similes was nice and relaxing. not much else to say aside from that.

American Ghetto was pretty enjoyable though P.TM need to cut down on their releases or they will stop being creative, this was shown in AG as it's very similar to their 09 release.

Picastro - Become Secret is an excellent folk / slowcore album that i recently discovered. this or Daughters is AOTY for me so far.

all the good artists released albums in 2009 (i have about 125 albums from 09) and now nobody is releasing stuff this year. sucks.

UNTRUEEEEEEEEEE, there's tons of music coming out this year. Radiohead, MGMT, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, The Deftones, The Libertines, Animal Collective, Coldplay, U2, all coming out with albums. D: I'm sure I missed alot more, but hey you get it.

animal collective aren't releasing a new album this year unless you're talking about panda bear's next solo album? im currently downloading a live set where he apparently played nothing but new material (so probably most of the album), which should be good.

also agreeing with the plastic beach dissapointment. i didnt enjoy anything on that album :|

edit: owait do you mean oddsac?

on an unrelated note i just downloaded flaming lips soft bulletin and it is now my goal in life to see race for the prize live before i die
