[OVERVIEW]

Volbeat is one of the tier's best weather setters due to Prankster, decent bulk, and key resistances to Ground and Fighting. Access to both Rain Dance and Sunny Day makes Volbeat a superb choice for hyper offensive rain and sun teams alike. Additionally, Volbeat has an array of utility support options like Defog, Thunder Wave, Encore and Roost, as well as U-turn for pivoting. However, Volbeat suffers from a weakness to Stealth Rock and being incredibly passive, meaning it can usually only get up sun or rain twice per game.

Moves
========

Sunny Day or Rain Dance assists teammates by setting up the chosen weather with +1 priority thanks to Prankster. U-turn gives Volbeat a slow pivoting move, potentially allowing a teammate to come in unscathed. Thunder Wave cripples the opposing Pokemon, lowering their Speed and potentially giving Volbeat momentum if they get fully paralyzed. Encore helps Volbeat gain momentum by locking the foe into a non-attacking move like Swords Dance or Defog, generating free turns.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense EVs with a Relaxed nature help Volbeat take incoming physical attacks, particularly Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, to the best of its ability. A Speed-lowering nature with 0 Speed IVs helps Volbeat underspeed Pokemon such as Lanturn and defensive Mesprit so that a teammate can be pivoted in for free with U-turn. Prankster gives Volbeat's status moves +1 priority, allowing it to move before certain Taunt users like Archeops and Pyroar and making it an extremely reliable weather setter. Heat Rock or Damp Rock extends the duration of the moves Sunny Day or Rain Dance from five turns to eight turns.

Usage Tips
========

Volbeat is primarily used as a weather setter on hyper offensive weather teams and should only be brought in when the duration of sun or rain has ended or is about to end. Volbeat's main priority should be to set up sun or rain and U-turn out right after. Despite the investment into Volbeat's defensive stats, its bulk is still lackluster; thus, one should switch Volbeat in cautiously when the opponent is predicted to switch or go for a resisted hit, since hyper offensive teams rely heavily on their chosen weather being set up. Volbeat can also be brought in after a teammate has fainted, giving it a free setup turn. There are some Pokemon Volbeat just cannot underspeed, such as Drampa and Gurdurr; in these situations, it's best to stay and let Volbeat faint than to U-turn and let one of your hyper offensive sweepers take a massive hit. In the case of Gurdurr, you may be able to Encore it into a non-attacking move like Bulk Up, allowing you then to safely pivot into a teammate. Encore is able to generate free turns for teammates or force a switch while also keeping setup sweepers checked.

Team Options
========

Volbeat should be used alongside a secondary weather setter, so Pokemon like Mesprit and Liepard are appreciated. For teams utilizing Volbeat's Sunny Day, Chlorophyll sweepers and Fire-types such as Victreebel, Sawsbuck, and Pyroar appreciate having their Speed doubled or their STAB moves boosted. Partners for Rain Dance Volbeat are usually Pokemon with the ability Swift Swim, such as Ludicolo, Kabutops, and Carracosta.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A more defensive set utilizing Defog and Roost can be used, but Volbeat is weak to the very entry hazards it's trying to remove and Defog doesn't work against opposing Dark-types due to Prankster. Tailwind + U-turn can help support slower offensive teammates such as Pinsir and Ursaring, but Tailwind has a short duration, and Volbeat is usually outclassed in this regard by bulkier pivots with Tailwind such as Lumineon and various Silvally formes. A specially defensive spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD and a Sassy nature can be run but doesn't take advantage of Volbeat's key resistances to Fighting and Ground as well as a physically defensive spread does. Toxic can cripple a foe by slowly draining their health, but it doesn't help hyper offensive sun and rain teams to nearly the same extent as Thunder Wave does.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Strong Attackers**: While many super effective move users like Carracosta, Magmortar, Archeops, and Swanna dislike being paralyzed by Thunder Wave, their STAB attacks can easily break through Volbeat's average-at-best defensive stats. Volbeat also has difficulty against strong wallbreakers like Drampa.

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users such as Pyroar, Lycanroc, and Skuntank can all limit Volbeat to use of only one status move before having to pivot. Faster Prankster Taunt users like Liepard can prevent Volbeat from doing anything at all.

**Residual Damage**: Entry hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes can chip away at Volbeat's health, possibly preventing it from setting up sun or rain more than one time per match. Toxic and other forms of residual damage also chip away at Volbeat's health throughout the duration of the match.

**Opposing Weather**: Abomasnow, Aurorus, and Hippopotas undo Volbeat's work of setting up the chosen weather by means of their abilities Snow Warning and Sand Stream.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Volbeat is one of the tier's best mid-game weather setters due to Prankster, decent bulk, and key resistances to Ground and Fighting (I wouldn't say mid-game, it can be used at any time, including early game (usually as it replaces liepard)) (the reason it's extremely reliable is because it almost 100% guarantees either rain or sun thanks to prankster)
  • Access to both Rain Dance and Sunny Day makes Volbeat a superb choice for hyper offensive rain and sun teams alike (especially because of prankster)
  • Additionally, Volbeat has an array of utility support options like Defog, Thunder Wave, Encore and Roost, as well as U-Turn for pivoting (overselling it, it doesn't utilise defog or roost on hyper offensive weather teams because it drains momentum)
  • However, Volbeat suffers from a weakness to Stealth Rock, 4MSS, and being incredibly passive (doesn't matter, doesn't matter and doesn't matter. its job is to set and provide a slow pivot into a sweeper, or potentially cripple another pokemon with thunder wave)
  • Volbeat also suffers from the Thunder Wave and Prankster nerfs that occured between Generations 6 and 7 (what nerf? explain it as it'll help newer players reading this)
  • All in all, Volbeat plays a critical role for hyper offensive weather teams in maintaining their desired weather (seems redundant, as it's just repeating what it does from earlier bullet points)

Moves
========

  • Sunny Day and Rain Dance assists teammates by setting up the chosen weather with +1 priority
  • Paralysis support through the use of Thunder Wave gives the team a form of speed control even when Sun or Rain isn't up (it's less the aspect of speed control and more crippling a pokemon)
  • Encore helps Volbeat gain momentum by locking the opponent into a non-attacking move like Swords Dance or Defog (allows it to pivot into pokemon who are more passive, also allows it to check setup pokemon and generates free turns for teammates)
  • STAB U-Turn gives Volbeat a slow pivoting move, potentially allowing a teammate to come in unscathed (this should be second, as it isn't in the order that you list the moves in) (I feel like there's little need to mention that it's stab, purely because of how weak it is. I'd also mention that it should be used immediately after setting)

Set Details
========

  • 248 HP / 252 Def with a Relaxed nature help Volbeat take incoming physical attacks, particularly Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, to the best of its ability. A speed lowering nature with 0 IVs helps underspeed Base 65s and above like Komala and Lanturn so that a teammate can be pivoted in for free. (with U-turn)
  • Prankster makes Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Thunder Wave, Encore, and all of Volbeat's other status moves have +1 priority, allowing it to move before certain taunt users like Archeops and Pyroar (making it an extremely reliable setter) (taunt should be capitalised)
  • Heat Rock and Damp Rock extends the duration of the moves Sunny Day and Rain Dance from 5 turns to 8 turns respectively.

Usage Tips
========

  • Volbeat is primarily used as a mid-game weather setter on hyper offensive weather teams, and should only be brought in when the duration of sun or rain has ended or is about to end (doesn't just have to be mid-game, can be used at any time during the game)
  • Despite the investment into Volbeat's defensive stats, it's bulk is still lackluster. Because hyper offensive teams rely heavily on their chosen weather being setup, one should switch Volbeat in cautiously when the opponent is predicted to switch or go for a resisted hit. (volbeat can be brought in after a teammate has fainted too, giving it a free setup turn)
  • There are some Pokemon Volbeat just cannot underspeed, such as Drampa, Gurdurr and Exeggutor-Alola. In these situations, it's best to stay and let Volbeat die than to U-turn and let one of your hyper offensive sweepers take a massive hit. In the case of Gurdurr and Exeggutor-Alola, you may be able to Encore them into a non-attacking move like Bulk Up or Trick Room respectively, allowing you then to safely pivot into a teammate (i'd mention that locking alolan exeggutor into its move is risky because it can still use its z move through encore)
  • encore is able to generate free turns for teammates or force a switch while also keeping setup sweepers checked
Team Options
========

  • Volbeat should be used as a mid-game setter, so lead setters like Regirock, Mesprit and Electrode are appreciated (regirock is exclusively used on sun teams, and almost never makes an appearance on rain teams. I also don't think you should mention electrode, it's just really meh) (again it doesn't have to be used solely in the mid-game) (why are they appreciated, what do they do, etc.)
  • Partners for Volbeat should always try to benefit from the weather Volbeat provides. Pyroar, Sawsbuck, Leafeon, Exeggutor, Carracosta, Poliwrath, Ludicolo, and Gorebyss are great examples. (so, so, so barebones here) (split it into rain and sun sections) (mention kabutops, victreebel, shiftry, etc.) (mention abilities such as swift swim and chlorophyll) (basically just expand this)
  • Volbeat appreciates the removal of Stealth Rock before coming in. Shiftry can Defog and Kabutops can Rapid spin away the hazards that Volbeat and hyper offensive weather teams hate (nope. shiftry will almost never run defog and kabutops doesn't spin) (this is ho remember, and volbeat doesn't really care about stealth rock considering it'll be setting a max of twice during a game)
  • Poison-types such as Victreebel and Qwilfish can self-absorb Toxic Spikes for Volbeat (again, doesn't seem too relevant. however qwilfish is a decent mention as it can set spikes and toxic spikes to help chip the opponent, and is able to get in rather easily thanks to encore + U-turn, or even thunder wave) (admittedly rain and sun both like toxic spikes being absorbed, but it doesn't directly affect volbeat, more so the sweepers)

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Defog can remove hazards from both sides of the field, but can be hard to make room on Volbeat's moveset and can be blocked by Dark-types due to Prankster (helps teams that are weak to toxic spikes, especially rain teams, but removes your own hazards too which can be annoying)
  • Roost acts as a reliable recovery move that replenishes up to half of Volbeat's health back, but also is generally hard to find room in its moveset.
  • combining the above two points, i'd mention that a defensive defog + roost set can be utilised
  • Moonlight also acts as a reliable recovery move, replenishing up to two-thirds of Volbeat's health back, but also suffers from four moveslot syndrome, has less PP than Roost, and is reliant on Sun being up (basically totally outclassed by roost, remove)
  • Tail Glow boosts Volbeat's Special Attack by three stages, but due to the Baton Pass Clause and a Base 47 Special Attack stat, Volbeat cannot make any use of it. (if it cannot make any use of it, then there's no point mentioning this)
  • Tailwind + U-Turn can help support slower offensive teammates such as Pinsir and Ursaring, but Tailwind has a short duration, and Volbeat is usually outclassed in this regard by bulkier Tailwind pivoters such as Lumineon and various Silvally forms.
  • Focus Punch can be utilized to hit opposing Rock- and Steel-types on the switch, but because Volbeat is uninvested into Attack, its still a fairly weak option. Investing more into Attack detracts from Volbeat's original purpose of being a bulky Prankster weather setter. (this seems so bad)
  • A specially defensive spread with 248 HP / 252 SpD and a Sassy nature can be ran but doesn't take advantage of its key resistances to Fighting and Ground
  • Lagging Tail + Trick takes advantage of the fact that 3 out of Volbeat's 4 moves are +1 priority, guarantees a slow pivot and can incapacitate a foe, but such a set is quick gimmicky and Volbeat much prefers to hold a Heat or Damp Rock to extend to turns of weather from 5 to 8 (i'd never use lagging tail over either heat rock or damp rock)
  • toxic probably deserves a mention

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Due to the Prankster nerf, Dark-types can easily switch-in on a predicted Encore or Thunder Wave, which in turn is a huge momentum drain for the Volbeat user. Furthermore, Skuntank and Sableye are hit only neutrally by Volbeat's U-Turn. (anything that switches in on encore makes it fail?) (I also don't think this is the best point to make, as shiftry and absol take a lot of damage from U-turn (the former is ohko'd actually)) (you also mention skuntank later too) (I just really dislike this point, and i'm questioning whether or not it should be removed)

**abomasnow**: gets rid of its weather basically

**STAB Super-Effective Attacks**: While many super-effective move users like Lycanroc, Pyroar, Archeops, and Swanna dislike being paralyzed by Thunder Wave, their STAB attacks can easily break through Volbeats average-at-best defensive stats (you already mention pyroar and lycanroc, so mention something different) (if rain is up pyroar is unable to ohko it by the way)

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users such as Pyroar, Lycanroc, and Skuntank can all limit Volbeat to use of only one status move before having to pivot. Faster Prankster Taunt users like Sableye and Liepard can prevent Volbeat from doing anything at all. (sableye isn't faster lol) (my issue with this is, pyroar and lycanroc would almost certainly just attack instead of going for taunt and it still does its job of getting weather up, apart from against liepard which it'd almost certainly U-turn on)

**Hazards**: Hazards like Stealth Rocks and Spikes can chip away at Volbeat's health, possibly preventing it from setting up sun or rain more than one time per match (this can be expanded to residual damage, including toxic)

i'm still really unsure about this c&c section, but I want to talk to others first
QC 1/3. Good Job!

248 HP / 252 Def this is ungood for GPers, u could fix now or then with a Relaxed nature help Volbeat take incoming physical attacks, particularly Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, to the best of its ability. Moves
========

Sunny Day and or Rain Dance assists teammates by setting up the chosen weather with +1 priority thanks to Prankster (don't have to add this, but it's some minor clarification). U-turn gives Volbeat a slow pivoting move, potentially allowing a teammate to come in unscathed. Paralysis support through the use of (this first part is unnecessary, can remove if you want) Thunder Wave cripples the opposing Pokemon team, lowering their Speed and potentially giving Volbeat momentum if they get fully paralyzed (I am assuming the Speed drop is also relevant, so I reworded a bit)gaining turns of momentum if the opponent becomes fully paralyzed. Encore helps Volbeat gain momentum by locking the opponent foe into a non-attacking move like Swords Dance or Defog, generating free turns against setup and passive Pokemon(already clear from the moves you mentioned).

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense EVs with a Relaxed nature help Volbeat take incoming physical attacks, particularly Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, to the best of its ability. A Speed- (AH)lowering nature with 0 Speed IVs helps underspeed Pokemon such as Lanturn and defensive Mesprit, (AC) so that a teammate can be pivoted in for free with U-turn. Prankster makes gives Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Thunder Wave, Encore, and all of Volbeat's other status moves have +1 priority, allowing it to move before certain Taunt users like Archeops and Pyroar, making it an extremely reliable weather setter. Heat Rock and or Damp Rock extends the duration of the moves Sunny Day and orRain Dance from 5 turns to 8 turns respectively.

Usage Tips

Volbeat is primarily used as a weather setter on hyper offensive weather teams, (RC) and should only be brought in when the duration of sun or rain has ended or is about to end. Volbeat's main priority should be to set up sun or rain and U-turn out right after. Despite the investment into Volbeat's defensive stats, its bulk is still lackluster.; (period -> semicolon, assuming that you have to be cautious due to Volbeat's lackluster bulk) because hyper offensive teams rely heavily on their chosen weather being setup, one should switch Volbeat in cautiously when the opponent is predicted to switch or go for a resisted hit. Volbeat can also be brought in after a teammate has fainted, giving it a free setup turn. There are some Pokemon Volbeat just cannot underspeed, such as Drampa and Gurdurr.; (period -> semicolon) in these situations, it's best to stay in and let Volbeat die faint than to U-turn and let one of your hyper offensive sweepers take a massive hit. In the case of Gurdurr, you may be able to Encore them it into a non-attacking move like Bulk Up, allowing you Volbeat to then to safely pivot into a teammate. Encore is able to generate free turns for teammates or force a switch while also keeping setup sweepers checked (is this a usage tip?).

Team Options
========

Volbeat should be used alongside a secondary weather setter, so setters Pokemon (ugly repetition) like Mesprit and Liepard are appreciated. For teams utilizing Volbeat's Sunny Day, Chlorophyll abusers users and Fire-types such as Victreebel, Sawsbuck, and Pyroar appreciate having their speed doubled or their STAB moves boosted. Partners for Rain Dance Volbeat's Rain Dance are usually Pokemon with the ability Swift Swim, like Ludicolo, Kabutops, and Carracosta.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A more defensive set utilizing Defog and Roost can be utilized used (ugly repetition), but Volbeat is weak to the very entry hazards it's trying to remove and Defog doesn't work against opposing Dark-types due to Prankster. Tailwind + U-turn can help support slower offensive teammates such as Pinsir and Ursaring, but Tailwind has a short duration, and Volbeat is usually outclassed in this regard by bulkier pivots with Tailwind pivoters such as Lumineon and various Silvally forms formes. A specially defensive spread with of 248 HP / 252 SpD and with a Sassy nature can be ran but doesn't take advantage of its Volbeat's key resistances to Fighting and Ground as well as a physically defensive spread does. Toxic can cripple a foe by slowly draining their health, (AC) but it doesn't help hyper offensive sun and rain teams to nearly to the same extent that Thunder Wave does.

Checks and Counters
===================

**STAB Super- (RH)Effective Attacks**: While many super- (RH)effective move users like Carracosta, Magmortar, Archeops, and Swanna dislike being paralyzed by Thunder Wave, their STAB attacks can easily break through Volbeat' (add apostrophe)s average-at-best defensive stats. Volbeat also has difficulty against strong wallbreakers like Drampa. (should this really be here? feels weird)

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users such as Pyroar, Lycanroc, and Skuntank can all limit Volbeat to use of only one status move before having to pivot. Faster Prankster Taunt users like Liepard can prevent Volbeat from doing anything using status moves at all.

**Residual Damage**: Entry hazards like Stealth Rocks and Spikes can chip away at Volbeat's health, possibly preventing it from setting up sun or rain more than one time per match. Toxic and other forms of residual damage also chip away at Volbeat's health throughout the dration duration of the match.

**Opposing Weather Setters** (don't have to add this, just makes more sense to me like this): Abomasnow, Aurorus, and Hippopotas undo Volbeat's work of setting up the chosen weather by means of their respective abilities Snow Warning and Sand Stream.

[OVERVIEW]

Volbeat is one of the tier's best weather setters due to Prankster, decent bulk, and key resistances to Ground and Fighting. Access to both Rain Dance and Sunny Day makes Volbeat a superb choice for hyper offensive rain and sun teams alike. Additionally, Volbeat has an array of utility support options like Defog, Thunder Wave, Encore, (AC) and Roost (are Defog and Roost worth mentioning here if they're not on the set?), as well as U-turn for pivoting. However, Volbeat suffers from a weakness to Stealth Rock, fourth move slot four-moveslot syndrome, and being incredibly passive incredible passivity, meaning it can usually only get up sun or rain twice per game.

(not really, keep this please)

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense EVs with a Relaxed nature help Volbeat take incoming physical attacks, particularly Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, to the best of its ability. A Speed- (AH)lowering nature with 0 Speed IVs helps underspeed Pokemon such as Lanturn and defensive Mesprit, (AC) (don't add this one) so that a teammate can be pivoted in for free with U-turn. Prankster makes gives Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Thunder Wave, Encore, and all of Volbeat's other status moves have +1 priority, allowing it to move before certain Taunt users like Archeops and Pyroar (RC) and making it an extremely reliable weather setter. Heat Rock and or Damp Rock extends the duration of the moves Sunny Day and or Rain Dance from five turns to 8 turns eight respectively.

Encore is able to generate free turns for teammates or force a switch while also keeping setup sweepers checked (is this a usage tip?). (sure why not)

2/2, implement with the reply button bc you missed a few instances of U-Turn -> U-turn in the last check, basically just click reply -> remove reds, remove comments, deformat all using the eraser button in the top left, then c/p into OP
