Project USUM OU Victim of the Week [Week 49: Dragon Dance Gyarados]

Not open for further replies.
Ill tally up voting later, thanks for all your contributions, Been a solid week and I see the love for clef is still strong. For now lets get the new week slated

Our victom this week is mega swampert, a mega who has not only benefited from the Transition of ORAS to SUMO but has now become the recent face of rain thanks to its electric immunity.

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Stealth Rock / Stone Edge / Superpower

Explanation:
Recently released in the last mega patch swampert has brought rain rouring back into the meta thanks to its good combination of bulk speed and Power. While not flawless as mons like tangrowth, amonguss and Water absorbers do trouble it. its easy to see why its now the archtypes Face. Waterfall and earthquake are obligatory stabs that do huge damage even to resists, Waterfall especially under rain is highly spamable, Ice punch is for stuff like Garchomp, salamance and Latis who would otherwise resist the stabs. From there the move choice is based on team needs. Swampert can easily get rocks up vs many teams and allows other team member to do better stuff, While Stone edge completes edge quack coverage and handles gyarados. Finally Super power can nail the ever present ferrothorn.

Goodluck everyone and happy posting

Rotom-wash as a counter

Rotom takes very well all the Mega Swampert attacks and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp and then use Hydro Pump

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 96-113 (31.6 - 37.2%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Superpower vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 114-135 (37.6 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Rotom-Wash Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 114-135 (33.4 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Venusaur mega as a hard check/soft counter

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Def / 156 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Hidden Power Fire

Venu's type gives it a resistence and a neutrality(it that even a word?) to swamp's dual stab, also, thanks to Thick Fat,Venu takes like nothing from ice punch
However, with rocks on the field, venu is practically dead because of EQuake, with that in mind,it's not a 'full" counter, but it is a very nice stop

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 352-420 (103.2 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 156-184 (42.9 - 50.6%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Ice Punch vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega: 78-94 (21.4 - 25.8%) -- 2% chance to 4HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 62-73 (17 - 20.1%) -- possible 5HKO
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 53-63 (15.5 - 18.4%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 156-184 (42.9 - 50.6%) -- 96.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Ferrothorn as a check
(or a counter if no superpower)

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Knock Off

Swampert's best attack against ferro is superpower, which is a clean 2HKO and makes ferrothorn only a check. Outside of that, it's best bet is EQ, which won't kill ferro in time.

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Superpower vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 214-254 (60.7 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 135-159 (38.3 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Ferro's uninvested power whip is an easy OHKO

0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega: 456-540 (133.7 - 158.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Ferrothorn also serves as a good check to other common members of rain like kingdra and tapu koko.

Check

Tapu Bulu @ Grassium Z / Rockium Z
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Wood Hammer / Stone Edge

Tapu Bulu's typing and ability allow it to switch in on anything Swampert can throw at it except Ice Punch. Once it's in, it can OHKO Swampert with Horn Leech or Wood Hammer.

However, when rain is up, Bulu's switchin opportunities become somewhat limited. Since Swampert is faster in the rain, Tapu Bulu can only switch in on Earthquake, Stealth Rock, or Superpower, since all of Swampert's other moves put it within KO range for Ice Punch.

Offensive:
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega in Grassy Terrain: 744-880 (218.1 - 258%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Bloom Doom (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega in Grassy Terrain: 1392-1636 (408.2 - 479.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega: 133-157 (39 - 46%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega in Grassy Terrain: 1192-1408 (349.5 - 412.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega in Grassy Terrain: 1884-2220 (552.4 - 651%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega: 55-65 (16.1 - 19%) -- possible 8HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega: 99-117 (29 - 34.3%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Defensive:
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 71-84 (25.2 - 29.8%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu in Rain: 106-126 (37.7 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu in Grassy Terrain: 43-51 (15.3 - 18.1%) -- possible 8HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 178-210 (63.3 - 74.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Scarf Keldeo as a check

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind / Stone Edge
- Scald / Surf

Keldeo can easily beat Swampert-Mega under rain because it's faster (even than Jolly) and any Water-Move will 2HKO, while it can live an Earthquake, out of rain you will still be able to 2HKO it most of the time (100% with Rocks, 91% without)

252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 165-195 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 165-195 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega in Rain: 247-292 (72.4 - 85.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Keldeo Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega in Rain: 180-213 (52.7 - 62.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 219-258 (67.8 - 79.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 199-235 (61.6 - 72.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Def / 29 SpD
Bold Nature
- Slack Off
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

Adamant Swampy does 28.4% max with EQ to Mega Slowbro, while Mega Slowbro does 43.9% min to Swampert with Scald (in the rain). Therefore, Mega Slowbro is a counter, as it can repeatedly switch into Mega Slowbro, recover off any damage taken, and 2HKO it after SR in the rain, potentially even burning it in the process.

And if Slowbro hasn't mega evolved yet, it can still switch in, as it only takes 41.2% max from Adamant Swampy's EQ.

Rocky Helmet Tangrowth as a counter

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 48 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder / Leech Seed
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power Ice

Physically defensive Tangrowth fully stops Mega Swampert like nobody's business thanks to its pure Grass typing and huge physical bulk and swiftly removes it with Giga Drain. Unlike the Assault Vest variant, it cannot be 2HKOed by Ice Punch after Rocks (and is thus more like a hard check), but it's more vulnerable to the special Water attackers that are commonly paired with Swampert.

Offensive calcs:
0 SpA Tangrowth Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Swampert-Mega: 328-388 (96.1 - 113.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Defensive calcs:
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth: 63-75 (15.5 - 18.5%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth in Rain: 76-90 (18.8 - 22.2%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth: 128-152 (31.6 - 37.6%) -- 89.7% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 166-196 (41 - 48.5%) -- 74.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock (Assault Vest)

Check: regular Slowbro

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Def / 28 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 136-162 (34.6 - 41.2%) -- 66.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro in Rain: 82-97 (20.8 - 24.6%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 91-108 (23.1 - 27.4%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

In return Slowbro can do this:
0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 79-94 (23.1 - 27.5%) -- 72% chance to 4HKO
0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega in Rain: 118-141 (34.6 - 41.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

In a 1 vs 1 situation slowbro can use alternatively Scald and Slack Off (PP stalling Earthquake), thus remaining at high health throughout the battle.
Slowbro can even fish for a burn to cripple Swampert-Mega and if rain is up, things are easier for us.

Fat Pink Fish as a Counter. Not Sure what EV spread Alo uses but used the calc spread. Gets Regenerator so can snack on Pert's EQ multiple times and u basically get a free wish since it switches out unless it's like PuP. Gets Scald which is the best move in the game. Toxic whatever chooses to come in unless it's like a ferro. Not sure if rain uses spikes so threw a calc with 1 SR + 1 Spike which tanks decently.

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 216+ Def Alomomola: 171-202 (35.5 - 41.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 216+ Def Alomomola: 171-202 (35.5 - 41.9%) -- 87.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 216+ Def Alomomola: 171-202 (35.5 - 41.9%) -- 10.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and Leftovers recovery

Check

Naruto as a check. All previous posted Mons have the advantage of being able to switch in, which White Kyuubi definitely cannot do. However, it's ability to reset the weather and the ability to use Freeze Dry to kill with just a prior bit of damage can completely throw off the momentum for the opposing team with good predictions.

252 SpA Ninetales-Alola Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega: 304-364 (89.1 - 106.7%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Ninetales-Alola Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 148-176 (42 - 50%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

RestTalk Suicune as a counter. Mega Swampert can't break through Suicune. Earthquake has only a 1% chance to 3HKO, so Suicune can set up Calm Mind or retaliate with rain-boosted Scald, which can possibly even burn Mega Swampert.

252+ Atk Swampert-Mega Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 130-154 (32.2 - 38.2%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Swampert-Mega in Rain: 109-130 (31.9 - 38.1%) -- 95.8% chance to 3HKO

Alright everyone voting is done. Thanks for all your contributions this week.

Winners are
Checks: Venusaur (The Bill Cipher ) Ferrothorn (volx757 )
Counters: Suicune (Jucherz ), Mega Slowbro (Aragorn the King )

Since we had a 3 way tie in the checks I picked Suicune and Megabro. Since both set up over Swampert to win the game and have access to better recovery

Vote count

Moving on our victim for this week is Offensive 3 attacks Zapdos. While not as dominant or trending as previous victims it has benefited from recent meta shifts thanks to its nice typing as well as Impressive coverage.

Sets
Zapdos @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SPA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Heat Wave
- Roost / Agility

Explanation:
Thanks to its fantastic typing and coverage Zapdos has become something of a glue for offensive based teams be it as a defogger, pivot or an offensive threat on its own merit. In this case were making a victom of the offensive set. Thunderbolt is the obvious choice for power and reliability while Hidden power Ice completes the bolt/beam coverage. Heatwave complemants boltbeam fantasticly and nails bulky grass's like Tangrowth or Steels like AV magearna who would otherwise wall it. From there its a choice of either Roost to take advantage of its typing and give it longevity or Agility to clean up and blow open games once its checks are gone.

Goodluck and happy posting everyone

252+ SpA Zapdos Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Marowak-Alola: 42-49 (16 - 18.7%) -- possible 6HKO

mega swampert is a counter to zapdos thanks to its bulk and typing, allowing it to eat anything from zapdos and 2HKOing with Ice Punch or Waterfall.

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Def / 192 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled
- Moonblast
- Flamethrower

This Clefable can switch into thunderbolt, taking 39 max after leftovers, use calm mind, take 24 max on the next bolt after leftovers, leaving it with 13% HP at worst on the turn you hit softboiled. From there it just repeats until it's ready to win the game.

This is a specially defensive variant, also useful for checking ash-greninja, tapu koko, and other powerful special attackers.

252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 192+ SpD Clefable: 152-179 (38.5 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. +1 252 HP / 192+ SpD Clefable: 101-121 (25.6 - 30.7%) -- 2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
