[OVERVIEW]

  • Sigilyph's fantastic ability Magic Guard and solid movepool allow it to be a threat in the RU tier, maintain offensive presence in addition to longevity when well played.
  • Sigilyph's access to Roost and Calm Mind allow it to easily pressure defensive cores in the tier, reliant on reliant on Pokemon like Registeel, Porygon2, and to a lesser extent Milotic
  • Magic Guard allows Sigilyph to avoid hazard pressure in the tier, which is useful due to the dearth of solid removal options available
  • Sigilyph's unique 97-base speed tier allows it to outspeed many offensive threats in the tier, such as Kommo-o, Nidoqueen, Roserade, and Feraligatr. However, Sigilpyh's speed leaves it just short of being able to outspeed threatening base 100's such as Flygon and Pokemon slightly above that benchmark such as Zoroark or Durant.
  • Sigilyph faces competition from other Fighting-types, especially Meloetta, which can perform a similar role as a Calm Mind breaker. Sigilyph distinguishes itself with access to Roost, giving it more longevity and thus utility versus bulky squads, and access to Heat Wave in order to have a strong yet reliable STAB to hit most Steel-types with.
  • Sigilyph's Psychic Flying typing leaves it with a plethora of weaknesses, allowing it to be revenge killed easily, and causes it to struggle with finding switch-in opportunities versus more offensive opposing matchups.

Moves
========

  • Psychic gives Sigilpyh a powerful STAB attack, allowing it to deal good damage to most non-resists in the tier even without a Special Attack boost.
  • Heat Wave hits Steel-types that resist Sigilphy's STAB Psychic for super-effective damage, allowing Sigilyph to easily 1v1 Registeel, and beat Pokemon such as Durant or Doublade, after a little chip damage, on the switch-in.
  • Calm Mind allows Sigilyph to boost its Special Attack overwhelm special walls such as Porygon2 or Cresselia lacking Calm Mind
  • Roost allows Sigilyph to comfortably switch in to the attack of many defensive Pokemon in the tier, such as Chesnaught or Milotic, without having to fear getting worn down, in conjunction with allowing it the longevity to set-up on the a-fore mentioned defensive threats.

Set Details
========

  • Life Orb gives Sigilyph immediate wall breaking power, and allows it to nab important OHKO benchmarks, such as the 100% OHKO on Nidoqueen.
  • Additionally, thanks to Sigilyph's access to Magic Guard, Life Orb does not come at the cost of wearing Sigilyph down, and thus Sigilyph has no reason to use other type boosting items such as the Expert Belt .
  • Magic Guard is thus vital on Sigilyph, and also allows it to come in on Stealth Rock without taking punishment, and switch in on bulky Pokemon such as Milotic without fear of being worn down by Toxic.
  • A Timid Nature with max Speed and Special Attack is ran to allow Sigilyph to outspeed other offensive threats in the tier, such as Feraligatr and Kommo-o, while maximizing damage output.

Usage Tips
========

  • Sigilyph is best used to break through the opposing team's defensive core, and thus should be played aggressively with early on in the match in order to deal as much damage as possible, for its poor defensive typing and bulk make it easy to revenge kill and Sigilyph is therefore rarely an effective win-condtion in the late game.
  • Bring Sigilyph in on double switches predicting defensive Pokemon Sigilyph threatens or hard it in when predicting them not to double, as Roost generally mitigates any chip damage done to Sigilyph if they stay in.
  • Since Sigilyph can Roost to mitigate the punishment done to it by walls staying in, the player should err on the side of aggressively predicting the offensive switch-in, which must come in to force Sigilyph out
Team Options
========
  • Pokemon such as Feraligatr, Tyrantrum, Flygon, and Salazzle all appreciate Sigilyph's ability to annoy walls such as Porygon2 or Milotic which can halt their sweep or clean up in the late game.
  • Defensive spike stacking cores made up of the likes of Chesnaught, Nidoqueen, and Registeel appreciate Sigilyph's ability to break through walls the rest the team is often too passive to deal with, while being able to maintain longevity thanks to Roost so that the archetype's hazard stack can gain the most value. Sigilyph is also not bothered by opposing hazard stack, which the archetype often has no removal for.

Other Options
=============
  • Sigilyph has a vastly diverse movepool, much of which can be useful in patching up a particular weakness on your team. Sigilphy's STAB Psychic is indefensible for hitting most of the tier for a strong neutral hit, and Roost is important in allowing Sigilyph to always come in on attacks such as Milotic's Scald without real fear of being worn down. Thus Calm Mind or Heat Wave are generally the choices of move to be replaced in favor of a coverage option, with Calm Mind being less valued on more offensive builds and Heat Wave less valued on defensive archetypes which require Calm Mind to boost pass walls.
  • Energy Ball gives Sigilyph a way to immediately threaten Rhyperior, though fully SpDef sets have a chance to live from full health, and also makes Sigilyph much more immediately threatening to Milotic or Diancie on the switch-in
  • Dazzling Gleam allows Sigilyph to OHKO Dark-types, such as Pangoro, Honchkrow or Zoroark, though the latter two will generally need to be caught on the switch-in. Dazzling Gleam also gives a well positioned Sigilyph the chance to 1v1 Umbreon. This coverage also leaves Sigilyph notably ineffectual against Steel-types such as Registeel or Doublade.
  • Toxic allows Sigilyph to always beat Haze Milotic, and pressures Calm Mind Cresselia and Umbreon. This option should always be run over Calm Mind, as it serves the same purpose it letting Sigilyph 1v1 walls, and running it over Heatwave would make most Dark and Steel-types easy switch-ins.
  • A Focus Sash set with 4 Attacks in order to stop sweepers could be effecitve, but is generally outclassed by other scarfers who can more effectively revenge kill.
  • A Flame Orb Calm Mind set can work aiming to set Sigilyph up as a final win condition, but is generally a poor choice as Sigilphy's typing leaves it with many weaknesses the opposing player can exploit to revenge kill it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon such Zoroark, Swellow, and Zygarde-10% can come in on Sigilyph's predicted Calm Mind or Roost and always force it out or revenge kill it.

**Pursuit Users**: Pursuit users such as Aerodactyl and Honchkrow can force Sigilyph out and KO it with pursuit.

Talk about its speed tier in the overview, what's faster and slower. its got a unique speed tier where its above all the random mons in 90-95 speed tier but still slower than 100s. Also talk about competition from meloetta I suppose since they're slightly comparable I guess? share psychic typing and calm mind, and how access to heat wave is amazing for it.

Rename the set to just Calm Mind or Roost + Calm Mind, up to you.

In the moves section remove hitting honchkrow and zoro on the switch with heat wave, I don't think they're necessarily mons that'd switch in and sounds wrong tbh.

probably worth stopping work on this due to it getting defog in usum, put it on hold until the new meta settles down imo
