Cobalion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge / Magnet Rise

Role: Physical Sweeper

What It Does: SD Cobalion is a physical sweeper that depends on its enormous physical bulk to set up. With Swords Dance and access to good STABs in Iron Head and Close Combat, it can hit pretty hard at +2. It's high speed means it's good against offensive teams and able to outspeed key threats such as Delphox, Mismagius, Moltres, and Drapion (Zoroark and Yanmega too but they're being suspected during the writing of this post) and hit them hard, possibly OHKOing them with a boost using the respective attacking move. It's also got incredible typing which, when combined with its good bulk, allows it to check some Pokemon such as Cinccino, Drapion, and Ambipom with relative ease. With its Steel typing it is also immune to toxic (spikes) meaning it can't be stalled out with that. With Lum Berry, it can set up on status moves or not get entirely crippled by a Scald burn. Magnet Rise allows Cobalion to set up on Pokemon it otherwise wouldn't be able to, such as Rhyperior and Gligar.

Good Teammates: Since Cobalion is primarily a sweeper and not a wallbreaker, it struggles to get past dedicated walls and stall in general. For that reason, wallbreakers such as Druddigon, Delphox, and Choice Specs Meloetta and stallbreakers such as SubCM Meloetta, SubCM Braviary, and CM Reuniclus are preferred. It also likes hazards to function better, and therefore Stealth Rock setters such as Druddigon and Rhyperior pair well with Cobalion. The same applies for Spikes stackers which Cobalion can work with, and those include Omastar, Accelgor, and Qwilfish. Because SD Cobalion struggles to get past Pokemon such as Slowking and Doublade, Pokemon that can deal with them are good teammates. Moltres can easily counter Doublade assuming no Stealth Rock on the field, and special attackers in general can easily keep Doublade in check. Slowking can be checked by SubCM Meloetta and Grass-types such as Rotom-C, although they must watch out for Fire Blast.

What Counters It: Dedicated physical walls can easily take on Cobalion. Alomomola can switch in relatively easy and has Scald to fish for a burn even with Lum Berry or after enough special defense drops from Close Combat, KO with Scald. It also has Wish to keep itself healthy in the process, but it has to watch out as Protect can easily be exploited and a +4 CC can wear down Alomomola quickly, while +6 CC OHKOs. Gligar can counter it easily and Earthquake for a 3HKO but has to watch out for Magnet Rise since that allows Cobalion to beat it 1v1. Cofagrigus can outright counter with its access to Will-O-Wisp and ridiculous physical bulk. Doublade fears nothing and uses Cobalion as set up fodder. Slowking resists both STABs and can KO with Scald or Fire Blast.

Any Additional Info: Don't use Life Orb, it's counterproductive considering Cobalion has good bulk.

Delphox @ Choice Specs
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Psyshock / Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Switcheroo

Role: Wallbreaker

What It Does: Delphox is one of the scariest wallbreakers in the tiers. Its only safe switch-in is Slowking, and even then it has to watch out for Grass Knot which can 2HKO with SR and a litle bit of prior damage. Delphxo's dual STAB moves have great coverage, allowing it to hit a lot of the tier neutrally, with Grass Knot to round up its coverage and hit Rhyperior (and rock-types in general) OHKOing it, while also hitting Water-types such as Jellicent, Gastrodon, Alomomola (if not using Psychic) and the aforementioned Slowking. Fire Blast has high base power and is preferred over Flamethrower for that reason, and because it wallbreaks better with it. Psyshock allows Delphox to hit Specially Defensive Aromatisse and Assault Vest users such as Gallade and Druddigon harder than Psychic or Fire Blast, while Psychic has 10 more base power and hits Rhyperior and Alomomola harder if you wish to not be locked on Grass Knot or give the Specs away with Switcheroo, which can be used to cripple some walls/clerics such as Aromatisse and Lickilicky. Be careful of giving the specs to Slowking though, as it doesn't mind it as much as other walls since it has Regenerator.

Good Teammates: Because Delphox is a Fire-type it needs Stealth Rock (and hazards in general) out of the field before it switches in and therefore Rapid Spin/Defog support is essential. Shiftry can work well with it since it can kill Slowking and has access to Defog. Gligar can work on more balanced teams since it is the most reliable user of Defog in the tier with its excellent physical bulk with Eviolite, and reliable recovery. Skuntank cna Defog and trap Slowking and Jellicent in one, and Hitmonlee is an excellent choice for offensive teams with its access to Rapid Spin and a ridiculously strong High Jump Kick as well as Knock Off. Stealth Rock (and hazard setters in general) is good to have as it pressures Slowking, and therefore Druddigon, Cobalion, and Rhyperior are good teammates for their ability to set up SR, and Sandslash can both Spin and SR in one.

What Counters It: The most reliable counter defensively is Slowking, outside of that nothing much can reliably switch in. Lickilicky can take a beating and has Knock Off, but has to watch out since SR + Fire Blast or Psyshock do a lot. Assault Vest Druddigon is a good check, able to eat up Fire Blasts and hit back with Sucker Punch, but Psyshock does a lot. Outside of defensive counters, offensive teams have to rely on outspeeding it to counter it. Choice Scarf users and Stone Edge Cobalion and Virizion can KO after Stealth Rock, and Rock Slide/Crunch Durant can easily revenge kill, and priority in general keeps Delphox in check with Pokemon like Sucker Punch Banette. Hazards are a nuisance for Delphox so keeping them on the field will make its life a lot shorter.

Any Additional Info:

Rotom-Mow @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Role: Revenge Killer

What It Does: Thanks to its solid typing that gives him quite a bit of resistances and immunities and a decent offensive movepool containing moves such as the always so helpful Volt Switch and the powerful Leaf Storm Rotom-C is a fantastic momentum gainer and revenge killer. Rotom-C has a lot of switch in opportunities during the game thanks to its immunity to Spikes, Stealth Rock neutrality, and great matchum against top tier threats like Rhyperior and almost any bulky Water-type to then threaten the ko and gain momentum with Volt Switch. Leaf Storm complements Volt Switch perfectly giving it respectable power for a Choice Scarf user and threatening the Ground-types trying to absorb Volt Switch. Trick is the icying on the cake crippling the Grass-types like Amoonguss that take next to no damage from any of Rotom-C's moves.

Good Teammates: This Rotom set fits well on balanced and bulky offensive teams looking for a reliable revenge killer and momentum gainer and doesn't require much team support to work effectively. However, because of Rotom-C's ability of luring out Grass-types and its inability to hurt, them strong Fire-types like Moltres and Delphox are good partners and they also have decent defensive synergy. Entry hazards stacking teams can also capitalize on the switches Rotom-C forces so Spikes setters like Accelgor, Omastar, and Qwilfish are good choices.

What Counters It: Bulky Grass-types like Amoonguss and Roselia take a pittance from any move Rotom-C commonly carries bar Trick and thus are the most reliable counters. Druddigon doesn't take much from any of Rotom-C's STAB moves and can set up rocks or simply hit it hard with a STAB move or a super effective Fire Punch. Dedicated special walls like Registeel and Lickilicky only fears Trick and can put a timer on Rotom with Toxic or setup Wish or Stealth Rock on it. Specially bulky setup sweepers like Meloetta and Virizion can use Rotom-C as setup fodder after he has killed something and proceed to run through the opposing team.

Any Additional Info: Various Hidden Power and Will-o-Wisp are usable over Thunderbolt to hit specific threats but then are really easy to setup on. A Modest nature can also be used if Choice Scarf Braviary is not a concern for your team.

Meloetta @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Relic Song
- Close Combat
- Return
- Knock Off

Role:
Physical Sweeper, maybe mixed sweeper? by strict definition it isn't a mixed sweeper but I guess it could work since Relic Song isn't that weak when used on regular Meloetta.

What It Does: Meloetta-P is essentially the definition of a physical sweeper; high attack mixed with very high speed, being only outsped by Jolteon as an offensive threat. It's also got access to two STABs that compliment each other very well as well as Knock Off, which rounds up Meloetta's moveset and gives it neutral coverage on pretty much everything. Regular Meloetta has high SpD and SpA naturally, so it's best not to decrease that by choosing Naive or Jolly, since a Relic Song, even if uninvested, can hurt a bit if it came from regular Meloetta. Additionally, this particular set of Meloetta depends on revenge killing to succeed, so it has to come in on a weakened Pokemon or a special attacker that can't hurt regular Meloetta by a lot like Delphox, use Relic Song to transform, and then start sweeping. While I don't like Naive nature, it can be used to take priority moves like Mach Punch a bit better.

Good Teammates: I have had success pairing Meloetta with Calm Mind Cobalion. They compliment eachother relatively well because Cobalion lures in Pokemon such as Doublade, Gligar, and Alomomola, the most common physical walls in RU that normally switch into it, and beat them by 2HKOing with Hidden Power Ghost, Flash Cannon, and Focus Blast respectively, after a boost. Since Meloetta-P is primarily a sweeper and therefore can't really break many walls at its own, then pairing it with some wallbreakers such as Mega Abomasnow brings good results. Revenge Killers often compliment sweepers as a fail-safe option to clean up the game if they don't, and for that reason Choice Scarf users such as Rotom-C, Moltres, and Delphox can all work. Hazards are good to have for any sweeper, thus Rhyperior and Druddigon are good teammates for their ability to set Stealth Rock. Defensive Qwilfish can also work as a spikes setter.

What Counters It: Physically Defensive Aromatisse and Amoonguss are probably the best counters since if they're healthy enough, they can take on Meloetta-P rather easily. Also, the biggest problem for Meloetta is having to rely on Relic Song to transform and therefore; Ghost-types such as Cofagrigus, Banette, and even Doublade can switch in and prevent it from using Relic Song, although they risk getting Knocked Off. Whimsicott can use priority Stun Spore to cripple Meloetta, and can take it on rather well and even has Moonblast to hit Meloetta-P super effectively. Meloetta-P also struggles against status of all kinds especially burns and paralyses.

Highly disappointed I didn't see this anywhere:

Clawitzer @ Life Orb / Choice Specs
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest / Timid
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Aura Sphere

Role: Wallbreaker

What it Does: Clawitzer, quite simply, is the best wallbreaker in the tier imo. It is capable of 2HKOing every defensive Pokemon in the tier with the correct move thanks to its high Special Attack and wonderful Mega Launcher ability, which gives it essentially 3 STAB moves! Scald is the "true STAB" option and the 30% burn chance is enough to make any Pokemon a little wary about trying to switch into Clawitzer. Dark Pulse is the first "ability STAB" as it absolutely trashes bulky Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon. It's capable of even 2HKOing Assault Vest Slowking without the help of entry hazards, which is no small feat. Ice Beam nails all those pesky Grass-types and gives both Virizion and Druddigon something to think about as they try to come in. Aura Sphere is the other "ability STAB" Clawitzer has, and it's very nice for taking out Registeel. It's also good for smashing Mega Abomasnow and keeping it from boning Clawitzer with a Grass STAB. The EVs maximize power and Speed, allowing Clawitzer to barely outspeed 0 Spe Gligar and KO it before it can get off a Defog. Modest is the chosen nature as there isn't much sitting above neutral max Speed Clawitzer and positive max Speed Clawitzer. Life Orb lets Clawitzer utilize its amazing coverage to its fullet potential, but does cost it some bulk due to the recurring recoil. Choice Specs maintains Clawitzer's decent bulk, but also makes it much more prediction-reliant to be most effective. It's generally a user preference choice as both items have pros and cons.

Good Teammates: Clawitzer destroys every special wall in the tier, so virtually any special attacker can work well with Clawitzer. This includes SubCM Meloetta, Agility Moltres, CM Delphox, LO Jolteon, and many more. Wish and Cleric support can be helpful as Clawitzer is very prone to being worn down, especially when it's using Life Orb. Aromatisse is great for this since it can switch into the faster Fighting-types in the tier, such as Hitmonlee, Gallade, and Virizion. On the topic of Virizion, it's a very good sweeping teammate for Clawitzer as it has the special bulk to shrug off most Electric- and Grass-type moves aimed at Clawitzer. Faster Pokemon in general will force out Clawitzer due to its low Speed, so it can be useful to support Clawitzer with a defensive backbone. Registeel, Assault Vest Druddigon, and Amoonguss are all solid options for this. Registeel and Amoonguss can make Clawitzer even more dangeorus by providing it with paralysis support while AV Druddigon can maintain offensive pressure vs. most teams.

What Counters It: Next to nothing. Due to Clawitzer's amazing coverage and power, there are really no outright "counters" to this set (ie nothing can switch in without being at risk of being 2HKOed) However, there are options that are safer than most. Chief among these is Virizion. It commonly carries Lum Berry to heal possible Scald burns, gains an Attack boost from Dark Pulse via Justified and only really fears Ice Beam. It outspeeds and is virtually guaranteed to OHKO Clawitzer with Leaf Blade after a round of LO recoil (min. is 89.7%, so your luck sucks if you fail to OHKO after LO recoil) Otherwise, you're incredibly limited as to what you can use to beat Clawitzer as just about every other faster Pokemon that can KO it can't switch-in. Faster Grass- and Electric-types such as Jolteon, Rotom-C, and Heliolisk can easily revenge kill Clawitzer, but only Heliiolisk has a realistic chance of switching in thanks to Dry Skin giving it a complete immunity to Scald. Hitmonlee, Moltres, and Exploud all outspeed Clawitzer and can OHKO it with relative ease, but have issues trying to switch into Clawitzer. Your best bet to beating Clawitzer is maintaining offensive pressure so it has very few chances to switch-in as it doesn't like to take a lot of damage.

Any Additional Info: If using Clawitzer on Sticky Web, Timid is preferred over Modest. On the contrary, if you decide to use Clawitzer on a Trick Room team, using a Quiet nature and shifting all Speed EVs to HP is advised. Make sure Speed IV is 0 as well. U-turn is an option over Aura Sphere if you decide to use Choice Specs, but Aura Sphere is still greatly preferred. DON'T USE WATER PULSE OR DRAGON PULSE. THEY SUCK.

I feel we need more special walls:

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Perish Song
- Thunder Wave / Toxic
- Heal Bell
- Knock Off

Role: Special Wall

What it does:
Meloetta is often overlooked as a special wall despite having a sweet base 127 SpD stat coupled with a decent 100 HP stat. Perish Song can force a lot of switches and it's wonderful in full stall teams that can't deal with the last pokemon on your opponent's team and it also counters chicken pass which is getting popular on the ladder as well as SubCM Cresselia and Sub BU Braviary. Thunder Wave cripples fast pokemon like Delphox and opposing Meloetta but Toxic is a fine option if you prefer to cripple slower bulkier things like Clawitzer and Alomomola. Heal Bell heals Meloetta's team from status which can be useful on full stall teams and it prevents Meloetta for been crippled by status especially Toxic. Knock Off is a key move that allows Meloetta to take away opposing items and prevents her for becoming a sitting duck.

Good teammates:
Meloetta lacks recovery outside of her precious Leftovers so Wish passers give her more survivability and she hates Dark and Bug types attacks for all of these reasons Aromatisse is an awesome partner for her; resisting Dark and Bug type attacks as well as giving Meloetta recovery in the form of Wishes. Other good partners are Alomomola (Wish passer) and Gurdurr (Type synergy).

What counters it: Bulky Dark types that don't mind getting paralyzed like Spiritomb, Drapion and Skuntank can switch into Meloetta and pursuit trap her, Drapion can Knock off her precious Leftovers and Skuntank can Taunt her. Bug types like Durant can decimate Meloetta with a Hustle boosted X-Scissor or Crunch and finally offensive pressure in general will eventually take Meloetta down.

Any additional info: Psychic can be an option over Knock off but be sure to change the nature to Calm and put 0 attack IVS on her.

Sorry for double posting but I just realized that the Doublade's set is outdated in fact it is the same set that EonX posted in the Don't use this use that thread and it can cause confusion among new players, the best Doublade set is this:

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Iron Head
- Shadow Claw

There is no reason to run Sacred Sword anymore since it doesn't prove any additional coverage and 44 Speed EVS are used to speed creep Rhyperior but some people run more to outspeed Rhyperiors who want to speed creep Doublades.

Also remove Zoroark and Yanmega's posts :)

pokemonisfun

Banned deucer.
Speed creep is lame. Sure everyone knows in private to invest 4 Speed or a few more extra speed EVs on Pokemon that don't just max it out/have heavy speed investment unless you want to be slow for U-Turns, Trick Room or something similar. But in anything resembling an analysis or a set for other people to use you shouldn't bother with mentioning speed creep; that is to say all speed invesment should be specifically to outspeed max speed Pokemon XXX or else it is creeping. It is just crazy how people try to constantly outcreep each other. This is just my opinion of course, but I really think speed creep should never be included in anything resembling an analysis because Rhyperior can just run 4 speed itself or something similar and it becomes completely impossible to give a good speed to Doublade because you never know what the creep will be.

Just pointing out that Speed Creep is part of the mindgames in Pokemon. Love it or hate it, that's simply what it is.

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 160 HP / 96 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Close Combat
- Volt Switch
- Taunt

Role: Hazard Setter, Support, Pivot, Lead, Stallbreaker(?)

What it Does: So many things. This Cobalion is incredibly versatile. It's capable of being a hazard lead, anti-lead, and scout lead with just one moveset. Simply put, this Cobalion makes a lot of teams cry. Stealth Rock is Stealth Rock. Best entry hazard in the game, and probably the best move in the game too. Close Combat gives Cobalion some bite, allowing it to take out what it's supposed to. The next two moves form the real bread-and-butter of this set. Taunt + Volt Switch is devastating for so many teams. Taunt shuts down opposing leads early-game, Defog users mid-game, and setup sweepers late-game. Very useful move on Cobalion, especially considering its offensive threat generally forces out defensive Pokemon. Volt Switch allows Cobalion to build even more momentum off of a Taunt. Considering Taunt will usually force out a Pokemon, Cobalion can capitalize on this with Volt Switch to continue the pressure. Taunt also lets Cobalion act as an anti-lead when needed while Volt Switch allows it to be a scout lead when necessary. 96 Attack EVs are needed to ensure the 2HKO on Virizion with Close Combat. Speed is maximized as Cobalion's Speed tier is great for getting off a quick Taunt and / or Volt Switch. The rest is thrown into HP to compliment Cobalion's good natural physical bulk, allowing it to pivot into and out of many physical attackers in the tier. Jolly is used over Naive as Volt Switch is only used for the momentum, not the damage. It would be piss weak without investment anyway.

Good Teammates: As this Cobalion lures out defensive Pokemon and can render them useless with Taunt, offensive teammates that can capitalize on this are ideal. For example, a Taunted Gligar can't possibly the likes of Agility Moltres or SubCM Cresselia from getting a free chance to set up a sweep. You can also take advantage of Taunted sweepers and force them out. Catching Delphox in the switch with Taunt eases Slowking's job of walling it as King no longer has to worry about boosted attacks. As Cobalion can lure in and cripple most Defog users with Taunt, Spikes users appreciate Cobalion's support. Accelgor and Omastar are key Spikes users on HO with Omastar even allowing Cobalion to run another move in place of Stealth Rock, such as Iron Head or Thunder Wave. Toxic Spikes can be devastating to walls if Cobalion cuts off their means of recovery via Taunt. Weezing and Drapion are solid Toxic Spikes users to pair with Cobalion. Sweepers that appreciate free switch-ins in general are nice to use with Cobalion. Virizion, CM Delphox, and SubCM Meloetta can easily capitalize on a free switch-in off of a forced switch via Taunt.

What Counters It: Not a lot of things can straight-up counter Cobalion fully since it can fill so many roles at once. Most Pokemon that can take advantage of the lower damage output Cobalion has are slower, and thus prone to being hit with Volt Switch and met with a check or counter. Dugtrio can trap and severely weaken Cobalion, but due to the HP investment, it needs prior damage to be able to trap and KO Cobalion. Close Combat will KO in return. Slowking is a pretty reliable answer so long as its AV or Specs since Cobalion can cut off other moves, such as Slack Off, Calm Mind, and Trick Room, with Taunt. Gligar is still a pretty sturdy stop to Cobalion, especially if it packs U-turn, though it won't be able to Defog thanks to Taunt. Pokemon such as Delphox, Moltres, and Hitmonlee can easily plow through Cobalion without the aid of a set-up move, but all run the risk of getting hit with Volt Switch and being met with a check or counter before they can do a thing to Cobalion. Scarf variants of these Pokemon can surprise Cobalion and KO it before the Volt Switch, however. Sandslash can reliably get rid of Stealth Rock with Rapid Spin, has a Ground-typing to block Volt Switch, and has the physical bulk to easily take a few Close Combats from this Cobalion. On top of this, it has EQ to quickly wear down Cobalion.

Any Additional Info: Sacred Sword can be used over Close Combat if you hate the defense drops. If another member of the team has Stealth Rock, Cobalion has some other moves at its disposal. Iron Head can fill in as a safe STAB option while Thunder Wave and Toxic are other support options to consider. Toxic + Taunt can be extremely hindering to defensive Pokemon while Thunder Wave can aid slower teammates, like Clawitzer and Exploud.
