PU Passimian

[OVERVIEW]

Passimian's fantastic base Attack and decent base Speed make it arguably the best Fighting-type wallbreaker in the tier. To further its wallbreaking prowess, Passimian has a powerful attack in STAB Close Combat; fantastic coverage moves like Knock Off and Earthquake; and U-turn to pivot out of unfavorable matchups. It also has great physical bulk for an offensive Pokemon, making it quite difficult to revenge kill physically and allowing it to sponge a few physical hits and retaliate back with a strong attack. However, Passimian has pretty average special bulk, leaving it vulnerable to strong special attackers like Lilligant and Pyroar. Base 80 Speed only goes so far as well, leaving it outsped and revenge killed by a handful of faster attackers such as Swanna and Zangoose. This also means that Primeape is more desirable in some situations, as it has Defiant to deter very common Defog and Intimidate users like Swanna, Granbull, and Qwilfish. Primeape can also run a Choice Scarf more effectively than Passimain due to having a much more valuable Speed tier that allows it to, for example, outspeed Lilligant at +1 Speed, which Passimian can't do. However, Passimian has much higher overall damage output than Primeape, far more reasonable bulk, and Knock Off to distinguish itself.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Close Combat is Passimian's strongest STAB move and has minimal drawbacks. Knock Off is a mandatory coverage move, as it hits Pokemon that would normally switch into Passimian quite well like Musharna and pressures defensive Pokemon like Weezing and Sableye from directly switching into Passimian, as they dislike having their items removed. U-turn allows Passimian to pivot out of a bad matchup, keeping momentum, and is useful to hit Psychic-types like Mesprit. Earthquake is used to hit Poison-types, in particular Qwilfish, and score a 2HKO on Pokemon that resist Passimian's main STAB move, such as specially defensive Clefairy and Golurk.

Set Details
========

Maximum Attack EVs along with a Choice Band allow Passimian to deal as much damage as possible and wallbreak as effectively as possible, while maximum Speed investment makes Passimian as fast as possible. A Jolly nature allows Passimian to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and positive-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon and up, such as Jolly Absol. An Adamant nature gives a marginally higher Attack boost from Choice Band than Jolly but sacrifices the ability to outspeed Kangaskhan, Stoutland, and Jolly Absol.

Usage Tips
========

Passimian's main priority should be to come into battle early- to mid-game and launch a powerful Close Combat to wallbreak. Its decent physical bulk helps with this, giving it opportunities to switch into weak or resisted attacks from Pokemon like Pinsir and Skuntank and, if needed, Aggron's Head Smash. While Close Combat is the main wallbreaking move, coverage moves like Knock Off and U-turn should be used if the opposition has solid checks to Passimian like Weezing and Sableye, with Knock Off ridding them of their item and U-turn allowing Passimian to pivot out and gain momentum. U-turn can also be used on Pokemon weak to it like Shiftry and Absol to safely bring in a teammate. Passimian should also use a coverage move when predicting a check to switch in, such as using Earthquake on a Qwilfish switch-in and Knock Off on a Mesprit switch-in. Be wary of what moves are used in a risky situation, as all of Passimian's moves can lead to possible setup for dangerous sweepers. For example, if Passimian uses Close Combat when the opponent has Oricorio-G, it becomes bait for Oricorio-G to use Calm Mind on, resulting in a potential sweep.

Team Options
========

Pursuit trappers like Absol and Skuntank help Passimian get rid of Pokemon like Haunter and Golurk, making it easier for it to spam Close Combat. Similarly, powerful special wallbreakers like Magmortar and Pyroar can push past Gourgeist XL, Weezing, and Sableye. These two help absorb Will-O-Wisp for Passimian as well. Sweepers like Lilligant, Kabutops, and Alolan Raticate appreciate Passimian's ability to weaken walls like Miltank and Gastrodon, opening a door for them to sweep. Fast cleaners like Floatzel and Archeops also appreciate Passimian's ability to weaken defensive Pokemon to help them finish off the opposition. Defensive Mesprit helps Passimian check Psychic-types while creating a U-turn core with it, as well as being able to get up Stealth Rock to help wear down checks to Passimian. For example, Passimian is able to KO Weezing after it switches in a few times into Stealth Rock. In return, Passimian offers a good check to Skuntank for Mesprit.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Passimian can work to a certain extent, although it is typically outclassed by Primeape, which trades bulk for a far more valuable Speed tier that allows it to outspeed +1 Lilligant as well as Defiant, which can lead to potential Attack boosts that facilitate late-game cleaning. Bulk Up is another solid option for Passimian, although Hitmonchan is more suited for this role due to STAB priority in Mach Punch and higher special bulk. Toxic can be used to catch Pokemon like Sableye on the switch, but it forces Passimian to switch out immediately after use if running a Choice item, draining momentum. Quick Attack is a decent option, as it helps Passimian pick off weakened faster Pokemon, though it is a huge momentum drain like Toxic due to its terrible Base Power. Gunk Shot or Iron Head dent Fairy-types like Granbull and Togetic, pressuring them from switching directly into Passimian. Rock Slide can be used to hit Flying- and Bug-types, but Pokemon with these types are already hit quite hard by Passimian's normal coverage. Facade can be used to take advantage of burn or poison from Will-O-Wisp or Toxic Spikes, though it is quite situational in the end and sacrifices a valuable coverage move. Taunt with Fist Plate and three attacks can be used to turn Passimian into more of a utility attacker, but this makes Passimian lose some of its wallbreaking prowess.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Poison-types like Qwilfish resist Close Combat and are only hit by Earthquake, although; Weezing in particular is immune to it by virtue of Levitate. Qwilfish can also use Passimian a setup bait for Toxic Spikes. Neither of these Pokemon like losing their item to Knock Off, however.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-XL, Palossand, and Sableye are immune to Close Combat and avoid the 2HKO from Knock Off by virtue of the former two's high physical bulk and the latter's neutrality to it. All of these Pokemon also have reliable recovery to continually switch into Passimian and Gourgeist-XL and Sableye can also cripple Passimian with Will-O-Wisp.

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types can switch into Close Combat and hit Passimian back with a STAB move, although most are also hit quite hard by Knock Off and U-turn. Musharna, however, typically uses a Z-Crystal and has reliable recovery as well as the bulk to continually take Close Combat, Knock Off, and U-turn.

**Fairy-types**: Granbull, Silvally-Fairy, and Togetic all take pitiful damage from Close Combat and can retaliate with a STAB move. They do have to watch out for the rare Gunk Shot or Iron Head, however.

**Fast Special Attackers**: Faster attackers like Oricorio-G, Swanna, and Pyroar can take advantage of Passimian's average special bulk and severely weaken or KO it.

A few things:
  • I'd definitely slash eq in front of quick attack, as it's over way more useful in comparison.
  • I feel like instead of mentioning misdreavus, you'd be better talking about something like gourg, mainly because missy isn't really used.
  • I'd mention the reason why musharna can take multiple hits is due to it having reliable recovery.
  • I'd talk about the fact that Passimian faces direct competition from primeape, especially considering it doesn't have access to its hidden ability yet, in the overview.
  • I'd mention that it appreciates hazard removal and control due to its role as both a wall breaker and a pivot.

Not QC but here are some suggestions.
  • "U-Turn allows Passimian to pivot out of a bad matchup while simultaneously being able to hit Psychic-types" Mention it also keeps up momentum
  • "Rock Slide hits Bug and Flying-types, although it doesnt cover Fairy-types." List examples
  • "Earthquake can be used to hit some Poison-types like the occasional Muk and Arbok, although it doesn't offer much outside of that." Tbh Muk and Arbok arent relevant at all and should not be mentioned in my opinion, instead add Qwilfish
  • "Due to its decent physical bulk, Passimian can switch into weaker or resisted attacks from Pokemon like Pinsir, Piloswine and Absol." Maybe add a different example than Absol since Absol can carry Playrough
  • In Team options, I would add a mention of Pursuit trappers

about the ape vs simian, id specify that ape owns the scarf, speed control stuff and still can compete for a CB breaker slot depending on the team, it's passimian's bulk that really sets it apart

Moves
========
  • Close Combat is Passimian's strongest STAB move and has minimal drawbacks.
  • U-Turn allows Passimian to pivot out of a bad matchup, keeping momentum, while simultaneously being able to hit Psychic-types
  • Quick Attack lets Passimian pick off weakened Pokemon and get chip damage on faster attackers. remove cuz OO
  • Iron Head puts a dent in Fairy-types like Granbull and Togetic, pressuring them from switching directly into Passimian.
  • Rock Slide hits Bug and Flying-types like Pinsir, Swanna, and Charizard on the switch, although it doesnt cover Fairy-types.
  • Earthquake can be used to hit some Poison-types like Qwilfish and the occasional Muk, although it doesn't offer much outside of that. it's for qwilfish, 2hkoing golurk if u don't have eq, and occasionally decent natural coverage. i agree with the remove muk point someone made
Set Details
========
  • Max Attack EVs allows Passimian to deal as much damage as possible, which is important as it is a wallbreaker.
  • Max Speed makes Passimian as fast as possible.
  • An Adamant nature lets to do as much damage as possible.
  • Jolly Passimian outspeeds Adamant Kangaskhan and base 70 speed plus Pokemon with a speed boosting nature at the cost of power. obv but needs mentioning
Usage Tips
========
  • Due to its decent physical bulk, Passimian can switch into weaker or resisted attacks from Pokemon like Pinsir, Piloswine, and if needed, Aggron's Head Smash. skuntank is worth mentioning specifically, ape gets worn down by it fast but u can come into phys much easier
  • Once it is in, Passimian should fire off a Close Combat to put holes in the opposing team.
  • However, if the opposition has counters like Weezing or Sableye, U-turn should be used to pivot out and gain momentum.
  • Passimian should also use a coverage move on the switch-in of a predicted check, such as using Iron Head on a predicted Granbull switch-in.
  • Use Quick Attack to pick off weakened sweepers, such as a Zangoose on low health. remove!
id just mention that all of its coverage moves leave one or more relevant sweepers a setup chance which is important to keep in mind

Team Options
========
  • Guzzlord is a fantastic partner for Passimain as it is able to switch into Psychic and Ghost-types and KO them with a Dark-type STAB move.
  • Pursuit trappers like Absol and Bouffalant are also good partners as they help Passimian get rid of Pokemon like Haunter and Golurk, making it easier for it to spam Close Combat. mention something good instead of bouffalant, like skuntank
  • Silvally-Steel is another good partner as it walls Fairy, Psychic and Poison-types while steelvally isn't great in general, id mention other checks to those types
  • Powerful special wallbreakers like Pyroar and Beheeyem can push past Weezing and Sableye. beheeyem also isn't super relevant, other mons would be good to mention
  • Pyroar helps absorb Will-O-Wisp from these two as well.
mention sweepers that like passimian to break things. also defensive mesprit is a good partner, it sets rocks for u and passimian is a good mon to switch into when u slow u-turn on skunk

**Poison-types**: Poison-types, in particular Weezing, resist Close Combat and are only hit by Earthquake, although Weezing is immune to it by virtue of Levitate. qwilfish should get a specific mention here too

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types Gourgeist and Sableye are immune to Close Combat and aren't hit by Passimian's coverage moves either. Sabeleye in particular has Recover to continually switch in to Passimian. there are other ghosts u should mention too, even if it's just as offensive checks not defensive ones

**Fairy-types**: Granbull and Togetic all both take pitiful damage from Close Combat and can retaliate with a STAB move. They do have to watch out for Iron Head, however. no mention of silvally-fairy?

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types can switch in to Close Combat and hit Passimian back with a STAB move, although most are hit quite hard by U-Turn as well. Musharna, however, has the sheer bulk as well as recovery to take multiple Close Combats and U-turns.

**Fast Special Attackers**: Faster attackers like Charizard and Pyroar can take advantage of Passimian's average special bulk and severely weaken or KO it.

  • Rock Slide hits Bug and Flying-types like Pinsir, Swanna, and Oricorio-Sensu on the switch. (call it oricorio-g) (you don't really need to mention pinsir here tbh, like it's only able to switch in to 1 close combat and is pretty much the only relevant bug)
  • Earthquake can be used to hit some Poison-types like Qwilfish and score a 2HKO on Golurk, although it doesn't offer much outside of that. (you make it sound bad, when hitting golurk is a good thing and not letting qwilfish set up on you is also a positive)
Rearrange to accommodate for changes. should be close combat, U-turn, rock slide, earthquake, and iron head
Set Details
========
  • Max Attack EVs allows Passimian to deal as much damage as possible, which is important as it is a wallbreaker.

Usage Tips
========
  • Due to its decent physical bulk, Passimian can switch into weaker or resisted attacks from Pokemon like Pinsir, Skuntank, Piloswine, and if needed, Aggron's Head Smash. (eh. i'd change this a bit, you make it seem like it'll be doing this often but it can only switch in once versus a lot of these pokemon)
  • Once it is in, Passimian should fire off a Close Combat to put holes in the opposing team. (reword. like passimian should focus on using close combat to break the opposing team, unless they have a solid resist)
  • However, if the opposition has counters like Weezing or Sableye, U-turn should be used to pivot out and gain momentum.
  • Passimian should also use a coverage move on the switch-in of a predicted check, such as using Iron Head on a predicted Granbull switch-in.
  • Be wary of what moves are used in a situation, as all of Passimians moves can lead to possible setup for dangerous sweepers. (like? locking into "x" move allows "x" mon in, for example)
Team Options
========
  • Guzzlord is a fantastic partner for Passimain as it is able to switch into Psychic and Ghost-types and KO them with a Dark-type STAB move. (rip guzzlord)
  • Pursuit trappers like Absol and Skuntank are also good partners as they help Passimian get rid of Pokemon like Haunter and Golurk, making it easier for it to spam Close Combat. (also helps versus psychic-types like mesprit)
  • Powerful special wallbreakers like Magmortar and Guzzlord (rip guzzlord) can push past Weezing and Sableye.
  • Pyroar helps absorb Will-O-Wisp from these two as well.
  • Sweepers like Lilligant, Kabutops, and Raticate-Alola appreciate Passimian's ability to punch holes in the opposing team, opening a door for them to sweep. (what does it beat for them?)
  • Defensive Mesprit helps Passimian check Psychic-types while being able to get up Stealth Rocks to help ensure some KOs that Passimian normally wouldn't get, such as the higher chance to KO Lanturn. (gives a double U-turn core too) (eh, earthquake ohkos all the standard lanturn sets, so mention something else)
  • In return, Passimian offers a good check to Skuntank for Mesprit. (merge with the above point)

(remove mention of oricorio-g here or remove from the fast special attackers section)

**Fairy-types**: Granbull, Silvally-Fairy, and Togetic all take pitiful damage from Close Combat and can retaliate with a STAB move. They do have to watch out for Iron Head, however. (rock slide also hit togetic) (swap this with the below point too because psychic-types are more relevant)

Dank Memer if you've been following the USUM leaks, you might've seen that Passimian is going to change significantly very soon. As such we don't think it's worth continuing this analysis when it'd be outdated almost immediately after uploading to the site. If you'd like to continue it, then just wait a bit until after USUM has come out and we've had time to play with the changes (probably a week or so) and then start the analysis again from 2/4 (so we can do 2 more qc checks with the changes).
Also please note that you're supposed to write up analyses when you're at 2/3 qc checks which it seems like you weren't aware of, in this case you can write it up at 3/4 though.

Dank Memer please change the set to this. The reason that Earthquake gets a full slash in the last slot is because it is the only move that can hit Qwilfish, while Knock off or Close Combat coming off a Choice Band already hit almost all other high-usage pokemon hard. Rock Slide, Gunk Shot, and Drain Punch are all options on the Band set that can go into Other Options. Receiver is the ability, because unfortunately, Defiant is still unreleased.

zard note: I said go ahead on the stipulation that you'd tested the mon and familiarized yourself with how it's used in the new USUM metagame. Things like Zweilous in team options and Defiant on the set make me worried about that.

Made the changes

Also i put zweilous because it is a decent defensive partner, since it takes most special attacks commonly thrown at Passimian. Removed anyways.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Passimian has a fantastic base 120 Attack and decent base 80 Speed, making it arguably the best Fighting-type wallbreaker in the tier.
  • To further its wallbreaking prowess, Passimian has fantastic coverage moves like Knock Off, Gunk Shot, Rock Slide, and Earthquake as well as a nuke in STAB Close Combat. (you say to further its wall-breaking prowess yet mention close combat last, which is a bit surprising to me. i'd almost exclude both gunk shot and rock slide as they're only mentioned in other options) (also mention U-turn briefly please)
  • It also has great physical bulk for an offensive Pokemon, allowing to sponge a few physical hits and retaliate back with a strong attack. (means it can be slightly harder to revenge kill physically)
  • However, Passimian has pretty average special bulk, leaving it vulnerable to strong special attackers like Lilligant and Pyroar.
  • Base 80 speed only goes so far as well, leaving it outsped and revenge killed by a handful of faster attackers such as Swanna and Zangoose.
  • This also means that Primeape may be more desirable in some situations, as it can run a Choice Scarf more effectively due to having a more valuable speed tier, such as being able to outspeed Lilligant at +1 speed while Passimian can't. (primeape is desirable in most situations to be honest)
  • Primeape can also compete with Passimian for a Choice Band set, as it has Defiant. (nah you definitely need to mention defiant above and explain that is also why primeape sees more usage, because it deters qwilfish and defog users)
  • However, Passimian does have much more overall damage output than Primeape, far more reasonable bulk, and Knock Off to distinguish itself.

  • Max Attack EVs allows Passimian to deal as much damage as possible, which is important as it is a wallbreaker. (mention choice band with this please)
  • Max Speed makes Passimian as fast as possible and an Adamant nature lets to do as much damage as possible. (merge these two points. you also need to mention jolly first as it's the first slash. not doing so doesn't make sense)
  • Jolly allows Passimian to outspeed Adamant Kangaskhan and Pokemon with base 70+ speed running a speed boosting nature, such as Jolly Absol.
  • Adamant allows for a marginally higher attack boost from Choice Band than Jolly, but sacrifices the ability to outspeed Kangaskhan, Stoutland, and Jolly Absol.

Usage Tips
========
  • Due to its decent physical bulk, Passimian can switch into weaker or resisted attacks at least once from Pokemon like Pinsir, Skuntank, Piloswine (rip piloswine), and if needed, Aggron's Head Smash. (I wouldn't start by saying you should be switching it into things. this gives the wrong impression of what it does, so start with it being a wallbreaker, which is the point below)
  • Once it is in, Passimian main priority should be to launch a powerful Close Combat to wallbreak. (very general. you primarily want to use it early- to mid-game to weaken the opponents team for your sweepers and cleaners)
  • However, if the opposition has solid checks like Weezing or Sableye, Knock Off or U-turn should be used to get rid of their item or pivot out and gain momentum, respectively. (passimian is also able to use U-turn on pokemon like absol and shiftry to either force the switch and gain momentum or get a kill; meaning it isn't solely used in unfavourable situations)
  • Passimian should also use a coverage move on the switch-in of a predicted check, such as using Gunk Shot on a predicted Granbull switch-in. (no gunk shot on the set, so you need another example)
  • Be wary of what moves are used in a situation, as all of Passimian's moves can lead to possible setup for dangerous sweepers. For example, if Passimian uses Close Combat when the opponent has Oricorio-G, it becomes bait for Oricorio-G to use Calm Mind on, resulting in a potential sweep.
Team Options
========
  • Pursuit trappers like Absol and Skuntank are also good partners as they help Passimian get rid of Pokemon like Haunter and Golurk, making it easier for it to spam Close Combat.
  • Powerful special wallbreakers like Magmortar and Pyroar can push past Gourgeist XL, Weezing and Sableye.
  • These two help absorb Will-O-Wisp for Passimian as well.
  • Sweepers like Lilligant, Kabutops, and Raticate-Alola appreciate Passimian's ability to weaken walls like Miltank and Gastrodon, opening a door for them to sweep.
  • Defensive Mesprit helps Passimian check Psychic-types while creating a U-turn core, as well as being able to get up Stealth Rocks to help wear down checks to Passimian.
  • For example, Stealth Rocks allow Passimian to have a better chance at KOing Weezing after a few switch-ins.
  • In return, Passimian offers a good check to Skuntank for Mesprit.
so, so basic for team options. everything needs expanded on here and you really need to consider what you're writing. explain what passimian does for them and how they offer support in return, listing synergy and such. this is pretty weak compared to the rest of the analysis so I hope to see it improved for the final check

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Choice Scarf Passimian can work to a certain extent, although it is typically outclassed by Primeape, which trades bulk for a far more valuable speed tier. (defiant too, name some things about the speed tier)
  • Bulk Up is another solid option for Passimian, although Hitmonchan has a stat distribution more suited for such a role due to its higher special bulk. (hitmonchan has better special defence and stab-boosted priority in mach punch)
  • Toxic can be used to catch Pokemon like Sableye on the switch. (why wouldn't you use it? being locked into toxic is a serious momentum drain)
  • Quick Attack is a decent option as it helps Passimian pick off weakened faster Pokemon. (very weak though, and has to drop a move for it)
  • Gunk Shot or Iron Head dent Fairy-types like Granbull and Togetic, pressuring them from switching directly into Passimian.
  • Rock Slide can be used to hit Flying and Bug-types, but Pokemon with these types are already hit quite hard by Passimian's normal coverage.
  • Facade can be used to take advantage of burns or toxics from Toxic Spikes or Will-O-Wisp (swap these two to match the first bit), though it is quite situational in the end and sacrifices a valuable coverage move.
  • Taunt with Fist Plate and 3 attacks can be used to turn Passimian into more of a utility attacker, although this makes Passimian lose some of its wallbreaking prowess.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Poison-types like Qwilfish, and in particular Weezing, resist Close Combat and are only hit by Earthquake, although Weezing is immune to it by virtue of Levitate. Weezing doesn't like losing its item to Knock Off, however. (qwilfish doesn't like losing its item. qwilfish can use it as setup bait and lowers its attack too)

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types Gourgeist-XL and Sableye are immune to Close Combat and avoid the 2HKO from Knock Off by virtue of the former's high physical bulk and the latter's neutrality to it. Both also have reliable recovery to continually switch in to Passimian. (oricorio-g should definitely get a mention here over the last bit)

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types can switch in to Close Combat and hit Passimian back with a STAB move, although most are hit quite hard by Knock Off and U-Turn. Musharna, however, has reliable recovery and the bulk to continually take Close Combat and U-turn. It shouldn't switch directly into a Knock Off however, as Knock Off has the potential to 2HKO after Musharna's item is knocked off on the switch. (I'm unsure if it does? musharna runs z move so knock off doesn't get the power boost)

**Fairy-types**: Granbull, Silvally-Fairy, and Togetic all take pitiful damage from Close Combat and can retaliate with a STAB move. They do have to watch out for a potential Gunk Shot or Iron Head, however. (instead of potential just say rare, as they're not mentioned on the set apart from in other options)

**Fast Special Attackers**: Faster attackers like Oricorio-G, Swanna, and Pyroar can take advantage of Passimian's average special bulk and severely weaken or KO it. None of these Pokemon can directly switch into Passimian however, as they all take massive damage from Close Combat or a coverage move. (I wouldn't ever mention the last bit to be honest. you've basically described them as revenge killers so they wont want to switch in regardless)
Right so, this is now officially QC 3/4; however, for the sake of consistency, you can change the title to QC 2/3 and get it written up. Good Work. QC 2/3.

Passimian has a fantastic base 120 Attack and decent base 80 Speed, making it arguably the best Fighting-type wallbreaker in the tier. To further its wallbreaking prowess, Passimian has a nuke in STAB Close Combat; fantastic coverage moves like Knock Off and Earthquake; and U-turn to pivot out of unfavorable matchups. Primeape can also run a Choice Scarf more effectively due to having a much more valuable speed tier, such as being able to outspeed Lilligant at +1 speed while Passimian can't. However, Passimian does have much more overall damage output than Primeape, far more reasonable bulk, and Knock Off to distinguish itself.

Close Combat is Passimian's strongest STAB move and has minimal drawbacks. Knock Off is a mandatory coverage move, as it hits Pokemon that would normally switch into Passimian quite well like Musharna poor example to choose since you'd much rather pressure this with uturn while pressuring defensive Pokemon like Weezing and Sableye from directly switching into Passimian, as they dislike having their items removed. U-Turn allows Passimian to pivot out of a bad matchup, keeping momentum, while simultaneously being able to hit Psychic-types like Mesprit. Earthquake is used to hit Poison-types, in particular Qwilfish, and score a 2HKO on Pokemon that resist Passimian's main STAB, such as Specially Defensive Clefairy and Golurk.

Max Attack EVs along with Choice Band allows Passimian to deal as much damage as possible and wallbreak as effectively as possible, while Max Speed makes Passimian as fast as possible. This also means that Primeape is more desirable in some situations, as it has Defiant to deter very common Defog and Intimidate users like Swanna, Granbull, and Qwilfish. Primeape can also run a Choice Scarf more effectively than Passimain due to having a much more valuable Speed tier that allows it to, for example, outspeed Lilligant at +1 Speed, (AC) which Passimian can't do. However, Passimian has much higher overall damage output than Primeape, far more reasonable bulk, and Knock Off to distinguish itself.

Close Combat is Passimian's strongest STAB move and has minimal drawbacks. Knock Off is a mandatory coverage move, as it hits Pokemon that would normally switch into Passimian quite well like Musharna, (RC) and pressures defensive Pokemon like Weezing and Sableye from directly switching into Passimian, as they dislike having their items removed.

Set Details
========

An Adamant nature gives allows for a marginally higher Attack boost from Choice Band than Jolly, (RC) but sacrifices the ability to outspeed Kangaskhan, Stoutland, and Jolly Absol.

Usage Tips
========

Passimian's main priority should be to come into battle early-(AH) to mid-game and launch a powerful Close Combat to wallbreak. Its decent physical bulk helps with this, giving it opportunities to switch in to into weaker or resisted attacks from Pokemon like Pinsir and Skuntank and, if needed, Aggron's Head Smash. While Close Combat is the main wallbreaking move, coverage moves like Knock Off and U-turn should be used if the opposition has solid checks to Passimian like Weezing or and Sableye, with Knock Off ridding them of their item and U-turn allowing Passimian to pivot out and gain momentum.

========

Pursuit trappers like Absol and Skuntank help Passimian get rid of Pokemon like Haunter and Golurk, making it easier for it to spam Close Combat. Similarly, powerful special wallbreakers like Magmortar and Pyroar can push past Gourgeist XL, Weezing, (AC) and Sableye.

Other Options
=============

Choice Scarf Passimian can work to a certain extent, although it is typically outclassed by Primeape, which trades bulk for a far more valuable Speed tier that allows it to outspeed +1 Lilligant as well as Defiant, which allows for can lead to potential Attack boosts that can facilitate late-game cleaning. Rock Slide can be used to hit Flying-(AH) and Bug-types, but Pokemon with these types are already hit quite hard by Passimian's normal coverage.

===================

**Poison-types**: Poison-types like Qwilfish resist Close Combat and are only hit by Earthquake, although; Weezing in particular is immune to it by virtue of Levitate. Qwilfish can also use Passimian a setup bait for Toxic Spikes. Neither of these Pokemon like losing its their item to Knock Off, however.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-XL, Palossand, and Sableye are immune to Close Combat and avoid the 2HKO from Knock Off by virtue of the former two's high physical bulk and the last's latter's neutrality to it. All of these Pokemon also have reliable recovery to continually switch into Passimian and, (RC) Gourgeist-XL and Sableye can also cripple Passimian with Will-O-Wisp.

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types can switch in to into Close Combat and hit Passimian back with a STAB move, although most are also hit quite hard by Knock Off and U-turn.
