Neon Town - Get cheap STABmons teams here! Only $0.99 a letter!!! [Closed]

I feel like it's high time that I dumped some teams here, especially after the multi-tier tour and the ladder challenge. These are basically all of my non-serious teams. I'd rather keep the serious ones to myself, although I'm sure determined people will have no problem copying them off my numerous replays. But I'm also happy to help build new serious teams for people if they want it.

Replays are at the bottom. I can't vouch for the quality since I just grabbed all of them, but I know that there are at least 5-6 gems hidden in there.

Anyways, I guess I'll start off with my lone meme team, Eevee Money. This is the team that I bring to STAB tours when I'm bored. So far it's won one room tour, got second place twice, got me to semis of a tour room tour, and lost in the first two rounds like 10 times. Basically it's infallible.

This team incorporates all of the best eeveelutions (sorry gen4, but you had shit eeveelutions). The general strategy is that flareon and sylveon are good wallbreakers and jolteon and espeon are decent cleaners. Scarf Espeon is the only way to not get completely trashed by setup in general, so keep it alive. Vaporeon and umbreon are pretty bad, tbh, but they can tank stuff in a pinch and they're a whole lot better than leafeon or glaceon. No SR sucks, but at least flareon can wreck people who just throw in their walls willy-nilly. People keep telling me that it looks like some other eeveelution team, but they literally all look the same at team preview unless someone brings leafeon or glaceon...

Up next is the most serious team on the list. It's the sceptile team I built for the team building challenge. It went 52-7 on ladder across 4 alts (24-2, 24-2, 15-1, 9-2), so it definitely works. Shout out to Betathunder for stopping 1 win shy of both of my 24-2 alts. I thought that there were two days left in the challenge, so I was just waiting to snipe anyone who passed me and simultaneously trying to get 24-1.

The team is adapted from an old bulky balance spike-stack team I used to use a lot which had Ferro > Sceptile. I changed up a bunch of the sets to make the team more offensive, since Sceptile doesn't really fit on any other playstyle. I typically lead Sceptile to try and mega ASAP unless I think they're going to lead a fakespeeder or scarf lando. For lando, I usually anti-lead with sylveon and poke it to test its set. Heatran is a good lead against opposing heatran. I only bluff earth power (RIP future bluffs lol), and run searing shot > blue flare. This gives me a lot more utility and lets me deal with Snorlax & Co teams a lot better. I like dual STAB defensive lando on this team because I have no volturn presence and I like to be able to damage flying types and one shot lopunny. Slowking is pretty standard. You could opt for mirror coat > dtail, especially since this isn't spike-stack anymore, but I like it. It's a good keldeo counter, lati switchin, sylveon check, and all around tank. It can actually avoid getting OHKO'd by a number of strong physical hits, which is nice in a pinch. This brings me to the offensive core. I like that Sceptile is really fucking fast because it helps against offense. I also like when it gets Seed Flare drops against Chansey and other would-be walls because it helps against "stall". That said, it's pretty unreliable between not switching in against anything but Rotom-W, needing to mega to really go fast, relying on sleep turns and SpD drops to break walls, and relying on 85 and 70% accurate moves to actually deal damage. Aero is another unreliable pokemon for many of the same reasons. Luckily, it hits bonkers hard and opens up a lot of teams for EZ sweeps, especially since it doesn't need to stay in the back as my emergency fast-mon. This sylveon set is pretty experimental for me. I know lots of other people have used similar ones, but I don't usually run this spread or moveset. I chose fist plate because I got tired of kicking myself for bringing the wrong plate, and fighting hits all the steels reasonably hard. This team struggles against things like mega pidgeot, since you have to play the "you get a kill, now I get a kill" game and hope you have more pokemon left alive. It also loses to bulky setup, like Cloyster and Snorlax unless you play really aggressively.

Now for the low-tier STABmons teams:

My STAB UU team looks super sick on paper, and is OK in practice. It hard-loses to UU staples like SpD Sylveon + Aggron, but I figured most people don't play UU stall.

I figured people would bring Sylveon and Aerodactyl, and I didn't want to be outdone in that regard so I brought both. My next thought was that I needed defensive answers to both of them, so I brought Porygon2 and Empoleon, which together can wall the pair with moderate success. I saw that my team was relatively slow, so I brought some fast-mons that complimented the rest of my team typing-wise. That was basically my whole thought process on this one. It worked, which is nice.

With RU, I took a much more direct approach. At this point in the STAB tier list the offensive threats severely outclass the defensive threats, specifically on the physical side. I decided not to mess around with any defensive cores or special attackers and just bring straight physical offense + bronzong as a defensive catch-all and rocks setter.

- Gyro Ball

The plan here is clearly to set rocks, break walls with aero and medicham, then just go to town with priority spam. It works pretty wonderfully in a metagame without lando, ferro, heatran, or slowbro. Magic Coat zong is pretty fun. It can't keep rocks down but it can give you a free switch into something strong.

In NU I took a different track and went back to a more balanced team. I tried a few pokemon not in the final version, like M-Audino > Regigigas, but it was too passive so I scrapped it.

I would just like to point out that Barbaracle and Combusken are actually not bad in regular OU based STABmons. Combusken OHKOs defensive Lando with VCreate after SD, and just keeps on sweeping (if there's no fakespeeders), and barbaracle is really fucking difficult to wall as well (it breaks slowbro, ferro, and venusaur, which all seem like good switchins). Obviously there are better options in standard, but I'm glad I tried these guys out. Gourgeist is speedcreeping 8 speed base 55, since there's like a million pokemon in NU at that speed.

I built "3" PU teams for finals, but they're two highly similar teams and then a combo of the two that I threw together when it went to game 3. The basic formula I came up with was Ursaring + Regigigas + Fire type wallbreaker + fast bird + offensive anti-fakespeed + defensive anti-fakespeed. I'll just post the sets in that order and let people glom them together.

Ursaring @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Atk / 32 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Fake Out
- Extreme Speed
- Crunch / Earthquake

I used Crunch the whole time, but wish I had used EQ. I ran some speed creep, but not max speed because I had faster fakespeeders in the back.

Regigigas @ Leftovers
Ability: Slow Start
EVs: 248 HP / 64 Atk / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Milk Drink
- Extreme Speed
- Knock Off

This set won me all three games (although it got para'd and died in the second one). You really don't need much Atk investment when you have base 160 and get to setup to +6 while waiting for slow start to end. The HP lets it tank basically everything with its 110/110/110 bulk. The speed lets it outpace stoutland after slow start ends. Knock Off is definitely the best coverage because everything that resists it and espeed either loses eviolite and dies, or gets setup on for free.

Flareon @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Extreme Speed
- V-create
- Superpower

Monferno @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- V-create
- Blue Flare
- Close Combat
- U-turn

These two are good wallbreakers. Flareon put in massive work for me in the tournament and Monferno got me out of a tough spot against defensive crustle, which I didn't see coming at all. Flareon is definitely the best physical wallbreaker available, and I think monferno is the best mixed one. They both demolish Gourgeist, which is awesome.

Dodrio @ Life Orb
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Ascent
- Fake Out
- Extreme Speed
- Knock Off

Ninjask @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sticky Web
- Defog
- U-turn
- Dragon Ascent

I'm sad I didn't get to make use of Early Bird Dodrio. I think it's really good in this format. It's faster than almost all of the other fakespeeders, and hits just as hard as stoutland. Ninjask can set webs and emergency defog. It doesn't really get coverage moves, and baton passing defense drops is dumb, so there's not much else for it to do. Neither of these guys ended up doing anything, so if you have better ideas for your team this is probably the first thing you should replace.

Stoutland @ Life Orb
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance / Fake Out
- Extreme Speed
- Facade
- Superpower

Crustle @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Diamond Storm
- Knock Off
- Earthquake / Sticky Web

These were my offensive anti-fakespeeders. Stoutland is faster than most of the fakespeeders that I thought people would bring, which makes it a good choice. It's also a good wallbreaker with SD+Facade. Crustle can tank normal/ground/fighting/dark coverage pretty easily and rack up Diamond Storm boosts or smash to win.

Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 228 HP / 240 Def / 40 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Will-O-Wisp
- Leech Seed
- Foul Play

Vullaby @ Eviolite
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Foul Play
- U-turn

Crustle @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Sticky Web
- Heal Order
- Diamond Storm
- Knock Off

Dual status + Foul Play Gourgeist is really good; it's much better than the previous set I was using with Horn Leech. Vullaby gets the job done, but is way less disruptive. I didn't use Crustle, but it almost ruined my tour singlehandedly so I had to include it.

REPLAYS:

If I play anymore ladder challenges, I'll post the teams here. Hopefully STABmons never dies so there are like 100 more of them.

Shoutouts to Clefable and Official Fissure for testing with me and giving me ideas.
