Serious Nanotechnology and the Future

Nanotechnology is a very interesting field of science with limitless potential applications. One of the most intriguing potentials for nanotechnology is for health. In theory, these nanorobots can eventually be used to enter the human body and destroy cancer cells, clear blockages in the circulatory system, and even extend memory capabilities. Some scientists even believe nanotechnology can be the key to immortality.
How far into the future are these miracle machines? One article says we could be seeing these machines being used on people by 2027. Another article states that immortality via nanotechnology may be achievable by 2047.
How do you guys feel about the usage of technology for health, or other fields? Do you feel that using these may go too far and further complicate our lives (instead of simplifying them)?

Complicating our lives doesn't necessarily make them worse. Bring on the future!

Out of all the technology likely to piss people off (Critical mass of AI in the workforce, widespread genetic engineering, stem cell research, etc...) nanotechnology seems relatively palatable as a useful tool so hopefully people realize that it might be better for robots to attack their cancer cells than to use radiation.

Yeah, Nanotechnology might be really useful in various fields of stuff. Of course, one should be careful that we don't create an artificial "nano-virus" with this, but I'm not too worried. Also, increases of Nanotechnology will lead to this, eventually:

Nanobots can be scary. There are those that harm, injure, and even kill, and we wouldn't even know what hit us, literally!
But you made a valid point, medical needs. So long as humans use nanobots for medical needs, i don't mind living in a world with nanobots.

Have you ever seen "Fantastic Voyage"? It's a old science fiction film (1966) where some people in a submarine shrink to microscopic size to destroy a brain cancer. Well. medical probes were science fiction in 1966, so it's nice to think that nanotechnology could be useful as ever.
