Welcome to the PU Lure That Thread! We all know what are Lures and what they do, specific pokemon that run an unexpected move or moveset in order to weaken or directly ohko a specific threat, and pave the way for another sweeper, having said that though, there isn't that much of a focus on lures in the PU Forum, and a good deal of lures used by battlers aren't really that optimal, this project tries from a competition to see what the ingenuity of people can come up with, and, hopefully; improve the Teambuilding aspect we have at the moment, without further adeu, here are the rules:

How It The Thread Will Function

1. Each week I'll nominate a threat (with their moveset) during the following week the community will nominate their lures in order to handle said threat or wall, of course Damage Calcs (under a Hide Tag) are appreciated.

2. Each person is allowed 1 Lure per week, and I'd personally prefer it if people don't copy other lures from that week. The more original the better. Ex: Everyone Running Earth Power Zweilous for Mawile.

3. After the 3 days has passed, the community will pick the top lure as a winner. Next everyone will post another Pokemon that will make a good core with the lure that was posted. (this will last 2 days)

4. The winners and their lure will be saved and recorded.

5. For the voting phase simply post the users name without @'ing them to not cause any inconveniences

Keep this in mind when you post a lure:

1. Does this Pokemon have to sacrifice anything important? If you're losing a key part of a set just for an uncommon threat that isn't even lured in that is what we call a "bad lure", always consider what you give up in order to lure something, that is very important.

2. Does this Pokemon gain anything important when using this moveset? The contrary to point number one, does this pokemon or the team benefit from the lure.

4. Could this method be better aided through teammates? Does your lure need team support to carry out it's role effectively.

IMPORTANT:

Monferno @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thunder Punch
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- U-turn

This is an example of a good lure beacause of pelipper being considered a good hard check for monferno that is commonly run. It lures it in and does 252+ Atk Iron Fist Monferno Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pelipper: 224-264 (69.3 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery which can pave the way for something like SD Leafeon to sweep.

Dodrio @ Life Orb
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Return
This is a bad lure because Dodrio is doing a pitiful (47.6 - 56.8%) to physically defensive relicanth and (40.2 - 47.3%) to tank golem which are some of its best checks. It also appreciates the wallbreaking ability early/late game in band or sweeping capability in scarf, while also passing up some nice utility in either pursuit or quick attack. EDIT: Also no reason to run this over natural gift.

Leafeon @ Lum Berry
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Aerial Ace
- Leaf Blade
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off

Murkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit / Hidden Power [Grass]
- Heat Wave

Prinplup @ eviolite
Ability: torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm nature
- Scald
- Stealth Rock / Defog
- Toxic
- Signal Beam

Grumpig @ Choice Specs
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Trick/Psyshock/Power Gem

Kadabra @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Knock Off

Politoed @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Earthquake

Gorebyss @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Shell Smash
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]

EDIT: Keep a low on the resist berries please and thank you.

Lure This Threat W1 (make a set that lures in Monferno in case its not clear)

SD Monferno

Leafeon @ Yache Berry
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Aerial Ace
- Leaf Blade
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off

252 Atk Leafeon Aerial Ace vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Monferno: 132-156 (49 - 57.9%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Leafeon Aerial Ace vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Monferno: 260-308 (96.6 - 114.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Monferno is a pretty common Leafeon check. It can take a +2 Leaf Blade decently and fire back with a SE Flare Blitz. Aerial Ace can effectively lure Monferno as shown by the calcs. Aerial Ace almost always 2hkos on its own, can OHKO at +2 after rocks, and Knock Off into Aerial Ace has a decent chance at taking Monferno out without a boost. Aerial Ace isn't just for Monferno either. it can put huge dents in would be checks like Tangela, Jumpluff and Quilladin to make room for somthing like CB Floatzel to sweep.

Relicanth @ Chople Berry
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Waterfall
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake

Relicanth has Chople berry in its smogon analysis, yet I can't remember the last time I saw it being used. It's still a good set, and it still lures Monferno pretty well. Take a bit of chip damage, knock something out, opponent tries to revenge with Monferno, proceed to Waterfall them into clicking X since their Monf was the only thing standing in the way of Pawniard sweeping.

Hey Rebel Pawniards and PU. Awesome thread you have here.

My submission today is:

Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Freeze-Dry
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Hidden Power Ground

For most teams, Monferno acts as a check/counter to Cryogonal because of its ability to take a Freeze-Dry, Rapid Spin or HP Fighting easily and retaliate with priority Mach Punch. By carrying HP Ground, Cryogonal can dish out 44.6-52.7% on Ferno which is quite effective once Ferno has taken some damage prior and doesn't cost any coverage as it still deals with Probo and Pawniard. The downfall of this lure is the fact that Cryogonal can not take a Mach Punch, so you must Cryo wisely.
252 SpA Cryogonal Hidden Power Ground vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Monferno: 120-142 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- 20.7% chance to 2HKO

Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Freeze-Dry
- Rapid Spin
- Recover / Water Pulse
- Hidden Power Fighting / Water Pulse

For most teams, Monferno acts as a check/counter to Cryogonal because of its ability to take a Freeze-Dry, Rapid Spin or HP Fighting easily and retaliate with priority Mach Punch. By carrying Water Pulse, Cryogonal can dish out 44.6-52.7% on Ferno which is quite effective once Ferno has taken some damage prior. 252 SpA Cryogonal Water Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Monferno: 120-142 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- 20.7% chance to 2HKO
Isn't HP ground better overall? still hits steels like Probopass and Pawniard while doing the same damage as Water Pulse to Monferno.

Ninetales @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Energy Ball
- Psyshock

Most Ninetales movesets are unable to inflict serious damage to Monferno. Thus, it can usually take two hits and kill Ninetales back with close combat + Mach punch. However, Life orb psyshock is a guaranteed 2hko on Monferno, while also being able to ko it after a fire blast and some tiny residual damage. Psyshock also allows it hit neutral on opposing fire types and ohko all muk's set at +2

Simisage @ Lansat Berry
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Natural Gift
- Superpower
- Knock Off

Simisear offers good damage to Monferno with normal movements such as Gunk Shot and Superpower but Lansat Berry ensures a much greater damage helping to lure Tangela , and give OHKO in Roselia.

Credits to RebelPawniards

252 Atk Lansat Berry Simisage Natural Gift (100 BP Flying) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Monferno: 202-238 (75 - 88.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Simisage Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Monferno: 156-185 (57.9 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Roselia @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Extrasensory
- Toxic Spikes/Spikes/Sleep Powder

LO Roselia is able to hit Monferno on the switch with Extrasensory, which is a guaranteed OHKO after rocks. It also acts as a nice CB Muk lure as well. With life orb, Roselia is able to pick up 2HKOs or OHKOs on Mawile, CB Muk, levitators, as well as defoggers, complementing it's toxic spikes or spike stacking abilities.
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Extrasensory vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Monferno: 234-276 (86.9 - 102.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Vullaby: 165-195 (48.1 - 56.8%) -- 90.2% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Pelipper: 335-395 (103.7 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mawile: 203-240 (66.7 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Extrasensory vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Muk: 208-247 (50.2 - 59.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Roselia Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-F: 239-282 (99.1 - 117%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

(Edited from Cacturne because I accidentally ran calcs on LO Monferno for Cacturne, sorry)

Unfortunately, the above Monferno set has Eviolite, so it lives Focus Blast from full. However I can see where the confusion would come from, since the calc set has Life Orb.
