Drapion

[OVERVIEW]
  • Drapion is a great offensive Pokemon in the NU metagame, sporting decent Attack and Speed complemented by a good dual STAB combination makes it a threat to many teams.
  • Typing is good defensively and it has a good Defense stat, making it a bit tricky to revenge kill. Also lets it absorb Toxic Spikes, which is a great asset for more offensive teams.
  • Drapion isn't just limited to breaking through teams with Swords Dance, it can also perform as a very capable Pursuit trapper with Choice Band or Choice Scarf equipped.
  • Special bulk is underwhelming and doesn't capitalize on it resistances very well.
  • Unboosted, Drapion isn't very strong and easy to pivot around and even if it's boosted, it can still struggle to OHKO/2HKO bulkier foes.
  • Its Speed while decent, still leaves it outpaced by quite a few of Pokemon.

Moves
========
  • Swords Dance boosts Drapion's Attack to respectable levels, allowing it to break past bulky Pokemon.
  • Knock Off is Drapion's strongest STAB and has a nice secondary effect of removing items from its checks such as Steelix's Leftovers or Rhydon's Eviolite.
  • Poison Jam complements Knock Off well by hitting Fairy-types like Granbull, Whimsicott, and Aromatisse.
  • Earthquake rounds out Drapion's coverage hitting Steelix, Rhydon, Garbodor, Skuntank, and opposing Drapion super effectively. Also worth noting that it prevents Drapion from taking Aftermath damage from both Skuntank and Garbodor.
Set Details
========
  • The given EV spread maximize's Drapion's offensive capabilities, with a Jolly nature letting it take advantage of its important speed tier, going past the likes of Timid Meloetta, Rotom-C, Jolly Hitmonlee and speed tying with other base 95 Speed Pokemon.
  • Groundium Z turns Earthquake into an extremely strong Tectonic Rage, letting Drapion muscle past bulkier with ease.
  • Shuca Berry is also an option to allow Drapion to take an Earthquake from Steelix or Rhydon, letting it beat both 1v1 if Drapion used Swords Dance on their switch in.
  • Battle Armor is used to prevent Drapion from taking random critical hits and is Drapion's most consistent ability, making it preferred to Sniper in most scenarios.
