When its Mega evolved, Defence and Special Defence stats raise.
Change this to ''Its MEvo has fantastic mixed bulk''

Add teammates for the first Mega Venusaur set and put more Pokemon in checks and counters.

Uh, pardon me, but since when did anyone in the Venusaur line learn Stun Spore? It always lacked that and still does, unless I missed something here.

1st set said:
Growth is an alternative to Sunny Day and is a mediocre stat up move
Growth is a mediocre move without sun, under sun it's a great boosting move. I would refrain from commenting on how good Growth is and just describe its role on the set.

2nd set said:
Losing Chlorophyll when it Mega evolve, allow Venusaur to change its role from offensive to defensive.
Losing Chlorophyll is not the reason that Mega Venusaur is a great defensive Pokemon, gaining great all around bulk and a superb defensive ability upon MElolving are the reasons.

2nd set said:
Also, is a solid check against rain teams and threatening setup sweepers such as Belly Drum Azumarill.
Venusaur is not a check to Azumarill, it's a foolproof counter.

2nd set said:
Hidden Power Fire allows Venusaur to NHKO Aegislash when is in defence stat, and Scizor.
Remove this and describe EQ's use instead, which is to take care of Pokemon such as Mega Lucario, Excadrill, Blaziken, and Aegislash.

2nd set said:
force Hawlucha to switch out
Remove the mention of Hawlucha and instead mention Skarmory, a Pokemon that walls Mega Venusaur and sets up Spikes on its face.

On the second Mega Venusaur set, remove Protect and add Synthesis as the first slash.

Mention defensive Steel-types such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn as counters to Mega Venusaur sets that lack Hidden Power Fire.

I trust that you will make those changes so

[Set Recommendations]

Venusaur @ Life Orb / Black Sludge
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 42 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Sunny Day / Growth
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb / Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power Fire

With the nerf to Drought, Sunny Day has become a must for Venusaur, as it acts like a backup to Ninetales's Drought. Growth is an alternative to Sunny Day and while it is a mediocre boosting move when the sun is not active, it otherwise grants it a +2 boost in both its attacking stats. A Modest nature is used to maximize its damage output, and the investment in Speed allows it to outrun Scarf Jolly Garchomp. Life Orb powers up all of Venusaur's moves, allowing it to potentially sweep the entire opposing team. Giga Drain is the main STAB, hitting almost every Water-, Ground-, and Rock-type Pokemon for super effective damage, allowing Venusaur to regain some of its HP and mitigate Life Orb's recoil. Sludge Bomb is super effective against Fairy-type Pokemon, and after a Growth, it lets Venusaur threaten even specially defensive Fairy-type Pokemon such as Florges and Sylveon. Alternatively, Sleep Powder can be used in order to incapacitate an opposing Pokemon and give it setup opportunities, after which it can deal serious damage to the opposing team. Hidden Power Fire serves to hit Steel-type Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Aegislash hard.

Because its ability relies on the sun, Ninetales is an obvious obvious partner for Venusaur. Xatu and Dugtrio are also partners that Venusaur appreciates, as the former traps and OHKOes Tyranitar, whereas the latter reflects entry hazards, which are a huge problem for sun teams.

[Mega Evolution Recommendations]

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain / Power Whip
- Sludge Bomb / Sleep Powder
- Earthquake
- Synthesis

Venusaur loses Chlorophyll when it Mega Evolves, and instead gains better bulk and a great defensive ability. It requires massive Defense investment to deal against Mega Lucario as well as possible, avoiding the OHKO from a +2 Adaptability Close Combat. With its bulk, it is also a solid check against rain teams and majority of bulky Water-type Pokemon. Giga Drain is a better option for a STAB move as its power is not affected by burns. However, Power Whip can be used in its place as it is a stronger STAB move and deals more damage to bulky Water-type Pokemon. Sludge Bomb hits both Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon hard, but if these Pokemon can be dealt with by its teammates, Venusaur can run Sleep Powder in order to cripple a Pokemon for the rest of the match. With Earthquake, it can deal with powerful sweepers such as Mega Lucario, Aegislash, and Excadrill, and it can also do good damage to Fire-type Pokemon. Synthesis provides Venusaur reliable recovery, allowing it to regain some of its HP.

Since Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon are problematic for Venusaur, Rotom-W is a good partner. It checks Talonflame, forces out Skarmory, a great counter to this set, and threatens unboosted Volcarona. Steel-type Pokemon are also problematic, so Greninja is a good partner, as it has Protean which gives it STAB on Hidden Power Fire, allowing it to deal against them. Venusaur works well with Blaziken and Greninja, as they can cover each other's weaknesses and form a Fire / Water / Grass core.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Giga Drain / Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis / Protect

In this set, Venusaur relies on hitting hard with its Special Attack along with a Modest Nature which lets it hit harder, and uses its HP to take hits better. It can switch in, soak up a specially based attack, and hit back hard. It serves also as a solid check to Water-types while having a respectable offensive presence.

Just like the previous set, Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon are problematic for Venusaur, so Rotom-W is a good partner. It checks Talonflame, forces out Skarmory, and threatens unboosted Volcarona.

[Checks and Counters]

When Venusaur is in its base form, it is heavily weather-reliant, so the most effective way to counter it is to change. When the sun is not up, powerful attackers such as Salamence, Dragonite, Starmie, and Chandelure can outspeed and proceed to eliminate it. Psychic-type Pokemon such as Alakazam can easily OHKO it. Talonflame screws Venusaur over with priority Brave Bird. Volcarona and Hawlucha can easily OHKO it with Fire Blast and Flying STAB move of choice, respectively. Priority moves such as Ice Shard or Bullet Punch threaten Venusaur, but Venusaur is rather bulky, so it will not be KOed by them unless it has taken prior damage. If Venusaur Hidden Power Fire, Skarmory and Ferrothorn counter it, proceeding to set up Spikes, and Skarmory has access to Brave Bird to hit it hard as well. When Venusaur Mega Evolved, it loses Chlorophyll, allowing to a lot of Pokemon such as Scarf Gothitelle, Charizard, Hawlucha, and Garchomp to outspeed and hit it hard or outright KO it. Grass-type Pokemon and Pokemon with Safety Goggles aren't affected Venusaur's Sleep Powder, making them great checks.

[Pros]

It has decent Special Attack and Speed stats.

When the sun is active, Chlorophyll doubles its sSpeed.

It'(apostrophe)s immune to to Toxic Spikes and powder moves such as Spore.

When it Mega eEvolves, its Defense and Special Defense stats raise.

Thick Fat allow to makes Venusaur being neutral against Fire- and Ice-type moves, that it would otherwise have been weak to.

(remove line break)

[Cons]

Psychic-type Pokemon such as Alakazam destroy it.

Talonflame OHKOes it with Brave Bird. Priority moves such as Bullet Punch and Ice Shard hard hit it hard.

Losing Chlorophyll when it Mega evolve, Evolves allow means that Venusaur being outspeeded gets outsped by lots of Pokemon.

Drought's nerf The nerf to Drought means that sweeping teams becomes a lot harder.

[Set Recommendations]

Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb / Sleep Powder(remove space)
- Hidden Power Fire

With Drought's nerf the nerf to Drought, Venusaur must have Sunny Day has become a must for Venusaur, acting as it acts like a backup to Ninetales's Drought. Growth is an alternative to Sunny Day and while it is a mediocre stat up boosting move when the sun is not active, it otherwise give grants it a +2 boost in its Attack and Special Attack stats, both its attacking stats. and with its A Modest nature which is used to maximize its damage output, and the investment in Speed that allows it to outrun Scarf Jolly Garchomp, and .(AP) Life Orb which boosts every powers up all of Venusaur's moves, it can allowing it to potentially sweep the entire opposing team. Giga Drain is the main STAB, that destroys hitting almost every Water-, Ground-, and Rock-type Pokemon for super effective damage, allowing Venusaur to recoup regain some of its HP and deal with mitigate Life Orb's recoil. Sludge Bomb is super effective against Fairy-type Pokemon, and after a Growth, it lets Venusaur threaten S even specially defensive oriented Fairy-type Pokemon such as Florges and Sylveon. Even Sludge Bomb is the recommended option, Alternatively, Sleep Powder can be used in order to inflict sleep status to opposing Pokemon, then Venusaur can boost its stats with Growth, starting to incapacitate an opposing Pokemon and give it setup opportunities, after which it can deal serious damage to the opposing team. Hidden Power Fire serves to cripple hit Steel-type Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Aegislash hard.

(remove space)Because its ability relies on the sun, Ninetales is the an obvious obvious partner for Venusaur. Xatu and Dugtrio are also partners that Venusaur appreciates, as the first former traps and OHKOes Tyranitar, which changes the weather, whereas Xatu the latter reflects entry hazards, which are a huge problem for sun teams.

[Mega Evolution Recommendations]

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain / Power Whip
- Sludge Bomb / Sleep Powder(remove space)
- Earthquake
- Synthesis

Venusaur loses Chlorophyll when Mega evolve it Mega Evolves, gain and instead gains better decent bulk and a super great defensive ability which allow Venusaur to be neutral hitted by Fire- and Ice-type moves. It needs requires massive Defense investment to deal against Mega Lucario as well as possible, failing to NHKOing it with avoiding the OHKO from a +2 Adaptability Close Combat. With its bulk, it is also a solid check against rain teams and majority of bulky Water-type Pokemon. Giga Drain is a better option for a STAB move as its power because is not affected by burns, and if the opposing Pokemon switch out into bulky Water-type or cleric support such as Greninja and Florges, then Power Whip is the strongest option. However, Power Whip can be used in its place as it is a stronger STAB move and deals more damage to bulky Water-type Pokemon. Sludge Bomb hard hits both Grass- and Fairy-type Pokemon hard, but if it's not important to deal these Pokemon can be dealt with by its teammates, Venusaur can run Sleep Powder in order to inflict sleep status cripple a Pokemon for the rest of the match. With Earthquake, it can deal with powerful sweepers such as Mega Lucario, Aegislash, and Excadrill, and also helps against it can also do good damage to Fire-type Pokemon. Synthesis is provides Venusaur reliable recovery, allowing Venusaur it to recoup(i looked up the meaning of recoup and it's used wrongly in this case) regain some of its HP.

Since Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon are problematic for Venusaur, Rotom-W is a good partner. It checks Talonflame's Brave Bird, forces out Skarmory, which a great counter Venusaur's to this set and set up Spikes on its face to switch out, and threatens unboosted Volcarona. Steel-types Pokemon are also problematic, so Greninja is a good partner too, because as it has Protean that which gives it STAB to on Hidden Power Fire, allowing it to deal against them. Venusaur works well with Blaziken and Greninja, which make a Fire-, Water-, and Grass-type core, allowing them to cover each other weaknesses as they can cover each other's weaknesses and form a Fire / Water / Grass core.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
- Synthesis / Protect

In this set, Venusaur relies on hitting hard with its Special Attack with Modest nature that maximize its damage output along with a Modest Nature which lets it hit harder, and uses its HP stat in order to take more damage as possible hits better. It can switch in, soak up a Sspecially-(RH)based attack, then and hit back hard. It serves also as a solid check to Water-types while being able to pack a respectable offensive presence.

ok i'm just going to provide a c/p and not list the changes here since there are too many changes =(

Same for previous set, since Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon are problematic for Venusaur, Rotom-W is a good partner. It checks Talonflame's Brave Bird, force Skarmory, which counter Venusaur's set and set up Spikes on its face to switch out, and threaten unboosted Volcarona. Steel-types Pokemon are also problematic, so Greninja is a good partner too, because it has Protean that give STAB to Hidden Power Fire, allowing it to deal against them. Venusaur works well with Blaziken and Greninja, which make a Fire-, Water-, and Grass-type core, allowing them to cover each other weaknesses.

[Checks and Counters]

When Venusaur is in its base form, it relies on weather, so the most effective way to stop it, is to change that. When the sun and Chlorophyll are not activated, powerful attackers such as Salamence, Dragonite, Starmie, Chandelure can easily make it useless and they proceed to eliminate it. Psychic-type Pokemon such as Alakazam can easily OHKOes it. Talonflame screw Venusaur with Brave Bird, Volcarona and Hawlucha OHKOes it respectively with Fire Blast and boosted Acrobatics. Priority moves such as Ice Shard or Bullet Punch threaten Venusaur, but for shut it down, Venusaur must have prior damages. Without Hidden Power Fire, Skarmory and Ferrothorn counter Venusaur's whole set, providing to set up Spikes, and the first has access to Brave Bird providing serious damages. When it Mega evolve, it loses Chlorophyll, allowing to a lot of Pokèmon such as Scarf Gothitelle, Charizard, Hawlucha, and Garchomp to outspeed and hard hit it. Grass-Type Pokemon and Weather Goggles make Venusaur's Sleep Powder useless, the first are immune to powder moves such as Sleep Powder, Spore and Stun Spore. The last runned as item, makes Pokemon immune to powder moves.

alexwolf , since you're a QC member, can you just clarify on what Hawlucha should use, since I just changed it to 'flying stab move of choice'? also Itachi, while this might come off as a bit rude, the majority of my changes were simple sentence restructurings, so you REALLY need to work on it. IIRC this is my second time providing a c/p due to the simply massive amount of changes I had to make. So yeah, but don't let this discourage you =)

there were some major problem with this one, please go over the GP Check and identify them; I'm slightly concerned that Kingler didn't address these issues, but it's also largely your responsibility to make sure your own analysis is up to scratch. We've had a discussion about your work quality, so I'd like to see some more effort from your side in improving that. Let me know if you have any other issues.

The last set should be like this:

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Giga Drain / Energy Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis / Sleep Powder

Leech Seed + Protect is not worth it on a Pokemon that has so much better things to be doing.

Also, on the second set, mention somewhere that it's the best Azumarill counter there is.

Oh and Kingler12345, we are really not sure atm, so the best option would be to remove Hawlucha and mention another Pokemon with Flying moves such as Moltres.

As a big Megasaur fan I'm a bit worried this set isn't included in the special tank:
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Synthesis

Leech Seed/Sleep Powder combo is a threat that very few Pokemons can ignore if they switch on Venusaur. Sure, this set gets walled by grass types and taunters that resist Giga Drain but that's what teammates are for.

Growth should be an option on "Sludge Bomb" for Mega Venusaur as it can really help in sticky situations when you just need to oustall an opponent late game. Of course it can turn you into a setup bait for Grass type and the like in exchange but that's what teammates are for.

I noticed a discrepancy between calcs I ran with Mega Lucario's close combat and Venusaur, and the damage output of what was listed here. I think it was just an error in copying from Alexwolf's post to Itachi's post. The write up says that with the fully defensive spread Venusaur barely avoids an OHKO from close combat, and my calcs and Alexwolf's post show it gives Venusaur a small chance of surviving a 2HKO. Thought I'd point it out since that difference can really effect how someone views Venusaur as a Lucario check/counter.

Here is the section from the write up as is:

Venusaur loses Chlorophyll when it Mega Evolves, and instead gains better bulk and a great defensive ability. It requires a massive Defense investment to deal with Mega Lucario, barely avoiding the OHKO from a +2 Adaptability Close Combat.

And here is Alexwolf's post for reference:
You need all this Defense investment to fare as well as possible against Mega Lucario, which even has a small chance of failing at 2HKOing with Close Combat at +2.
