Monotype Charizard (Flying)

[OVERVIEW]

Flying
========

* Mega Charizard Y is one of the most fearsome wallbreakers in the Monotype metagame thanks to its high Special Attack stat and an amazing offensive typing in Fire.
* Mega Charizard Y has Drought, which further boosts the damage of its Fire-type STAB moves and halves the damage of Water-type moves. This allows Mega Charizard Y to deal with powerful Water-types such as Keldeo and Kingdra, as they can no longer OHKO it, with Solar Beam.
* It has a diverse movepool that lets it hit most of the metagame, leaving very few Pokemon that can resist its coverage.
* Mega Charizard Y also sits at a great Speed tier, allowing it to outspeed and KO threats such as Kyurem-B and Hydreigon as well as Speed tie with opposing base 100 Speed Pokemon such as Charizard, Victini, and Volcarona.
* On hyper offense teams, Mega Charizard Y is one of the best Defoggers, as it often forces switches and can use Defog with minimal momentum loss.
* In addition, Mega Charizard Y has access to reliable recovery in Roost, which helps improve its longevity. It can make full use of Roost thanks to its respectable special bulk.
* This bulk works well with its Fire / Flying typing, allowing it to switch into Ice-type attacks.
* However, its typing is bad defensively, leaving it weak to common coverage move types such as Water, Electric, and Rock. Combined with its poor Defense stat, Mega Charizard Y cannot switch into attacks very well and is easily revenge killed by priority moves such as Aqua Jet and Accelerock.
* Mega Charizard Y is crippled by a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock damage, which means that it can be easily worn down in conjunction with other residual damage such as poison. Therefore, it is necessary to have a Defogger when using Mega Charizard Y.
* It also faces competition as the team's Mega Evolution from Mega Aerodactyl. Its higher Speed helps it succeed against offensive teams, while Mega Charizard Y is better against balanced builds.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Fire Blast is Mega Charizard Y's strongest and most spammable STAB move due to the Drought boost it gets.
* Flamethrower is an alternative option for better accuracy and PP; however, the drop in power is noticeable, as Mega Charizard Y loses out on some KOs such as 2HKOing Latios and OHKOing Assault Vest Magearna.
* Focus Blast gives Mega Charizard Y coverage against Pokemon like Heatran and Tyranitar, which would otherwise wall this set.
* Solar Beam, which is a one-turn move thanks to Drought, allows Mega Charizard Y to hit Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types such as Gastrodon, Rhyperior, Tapu Fini, and Slowbro.
* Roost is its most reliable form of recovery and somewhat alleviates its Stealth Rock weakness.

Set Details
========

* Maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed with a Timid nature is used to let Mega Charizard Y hit as hard and fast as possible.
* Blaze is the preferred pre-Mega Evolution ability, as Solar Power needlessly chips away at Mega Charizard Y's health if it switches in while sun is set by the opponent.
* Drought boosts Mega Charizard Y's Fire-type attacks, makes Solar Beam a one-turn move, halves the damage of Water-type attacks, and gets rid of other weather conditions such as rain and sand.

Usage Tips
========

* Stealth Rock definitely needs to be kept off the field when switching Mega Charizard Y in, as taking unnecessary damage forces it use Roost and waste turns it could spend wallbreaking.
* Mega Charizard Y should be brought in safely through a slow U-turn or Volt Switch from Pokemon like Zapdos and defensive Landorus-T to avoid taking extra damage.
* Its decent special bulk can be used to switch into weak walls such as Porygon2. It can also switch into Ice-type moves, such as Ice Beam from Nidoking, thanks to its Fire typing.
* Keep it away from status conditions such as paralysis and poison; paralysis halves Mega Charizard Y's Speed, while poison continually whittles it down, forcing it to use Roost more often.
* Roost can be used on defensive Pokemon, such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye and Celesteela, that can't touch Mega Charizard Y. Since Mega Charizard Y forces a lot of switches, this opportunity can be used to Roost as well.
* Mega Charizard Y should be used to wallbreak as early as possible, allowing its teammates to freely clean up late-game.
* Mega Charizard Y is heavily reliant on sun for its wallbreaking power and reliable use of Solar Beam. So, when sun wears off, it should be switched out to avoid giving walls free turns to recover their health or status Mega Charizard Y.
* Don't Mega Evolve Mega Charizard Y right away if other weather setters like Politoed and Tyranitar are around, as they can lock it into Solar Beam by switching in, then KO it.

Team Options
========

* Skarmory is a great defensive complement to Mega Charizard Y. It can switch into most physical attacks and cover Mega Charizard Y's weakness to Rock-type attacks well. Additionally, Skarmory can remove Stealth Rock with Defog as well as set entry hazards of its own.
* Zapdos can pivot into Electric-type attacks that threaten Mega Charizard Y and can remove Stealth Rock with Defog. Zapdos can also bring Mega Charizard Y in safely through a slow Volt Switch.
* Celesteela is another specially defensive wall that can handle Pokemon like Nihilego and Latios that lack Hidden Power Fire. It can also beat Chansey one-on-one with Leech Seed + Heavy Slam.
* Mantine is a great pivot for Water-type attacks aimed at Mega Charizard Y. It can also get rid of Stealth Rock with Defog.
* Mega Charizard Y appreciates Gliscor's stallbreaking capabilities; with Taunt or Swords Dance along with Poison Heal, it can take out Pokemon such as Chansey and Toxapex that would otherwise wall Mega Charizard Y. Gliscor can also switch into Electric-type attacks, absorb status, and set Stealth Rock. In return, Charizard can help beat Ice-types that threaten Gliscor.
* Landorus makes a great offensive partner to Mega Charizard Y due to its Electric immunity. Since Landorus is also a special wallbreaker, it can help weaken the opposing team's checks to Mega Charizard Y.
* Landorus-T is also a great partner to Mega Charizard Y. The defensive set can switch into Rock- and Electric-type moves that threaten it, set Stealth Rock, and safely bring Mega Charizard Y in through a slow U-turn. Offensive variants of Landorus-T appreciate Mega Charizard Y's wallbreaking, as it allows them to clean up late-game more easily.
* Minior can utilise Mega Charizard Y's wallbreaking capabilities to set up and sweep late-game. A +2 Minior can OHKO Chansey after Stealth Rock damage with Z-Stone Edge in return.
* Choice Band Dragonite forms a fearsome wallbreaking core with Mega Charizard Y that can put tremendous pressure on the opposing team. Dragonite and Mega Charizard Y work well together because they can break each other's checks; Dragonite can KO Chansey, while Mega Charizard Y can break through Porygon2 and Skarmory. Dragon Dance Dragonite is also a great teammate, as Mega Charizard Y can remove most of its checks, allowing it to set up and sweep much more easily.
* Togekiss can help remove Dragon-types that would otherwise wall Mega Charizard Y such as Garchomp, Latios, and Latias. It can also support Mega Charizard Y with Heal Bell and cripple Chansey with Trick.
* Thundurus can deal with checks to Mega Charizard Y such as Toxapex and Mantine. It can also paralyze faster Pokemon, such as Terrakion and Mega Metagross, with Thunder Wave.
* Thundurus-T can switch into Electric-type moves thanks to its useful ability in Volt Absorb. Nasty Plot variants can break opposing teams alongside Mega Charizard Y, while the Choice Scarf variant can clean up more easily due to Mega Charizard Y's wallbreaking capabilities.
* Aerodactyl is the best option for a Stealth Rock setter on offensive teams. It can also help Mega Charizard Y wallbreak more easily thanks to Tailwind, which allows Mega Charizard Y to outspeed faster threats such as Tapu Koko and Landorus.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Flying
--------

* Earthquake is an option over Focus Blast to hit specially defensive Heatran considerably harder; however, Mega Charizard Y can no longer 2HKO Tyranitar.
* Mega Charizard Y can viably run Defog over Roost on hyper offensive teams.
* A Modest nature can be opted for over Timid for greater damage output, but Mega Charizard Y loses out on outspeeding Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Landorus-T, and Hydreigon and Speed tying with Pokemon such as Charizard, Victini, and Volcarona.
* A specially defensive set can be run with support moves such as Will-O-Wisp to beat Ice-types more easily while maintaining an offensive presence; however, it lacks wallbreaking power and is outclassed by other support Pokemon such as Mantine.

Checks and Counters
===================

Flying
--------

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock prevents Mega Charizard Y from wallbreaking freely, as it loses about half of its health whenever it switches in, forcing it to use Roost.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey, Toxapex, and Mantine can easily switch into any attack from Mega Charizard Y, taking no relevant damage at all. Chansey can proceed to set up Stealth Rock, and all three of them can status Mega Charizard Y.

**Electric-types**: Fast Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Alolan Raichu outspeed Mega Charizard Y and can easily KO it with Thunderbolt; however, they cannot switch into a Fire Blast.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types such as Latios, Latias, Dragalge, and Dragonite can easily switch into Mega Charizard Y's attacks and KO it with their strong STAB moves in return.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster physical attackers such as Terrakion, Mega Sharpedo, and Choice Scarf Victini can take advantage of Mega Charizard Y's bad Defense stat and easily KO it; however, most of them cannot safely switch in. Priority users such as Lycanroc-D, Bisharp, and Dragonite can revenge kill it with Accelerock, Sucker Punch, and Extreme Speed, respectively.

**Opposing Weather Setters**: Rain setters such as Politoed and Pelipper can shut down Mega Charizard Y by weakening its STAB move and preventing it from freely spamming Solar Beam against Water-type teams. Sand setters such as Tyranitar and Hippowdon can also be annoying for Mega Charizard Y to face, although Hippowdon can't touch it unless it runs the rare Stone Edge, and Tyranitar can't switch into a Focus Blast.

**Status**: Mega Charizard Y hates status ailments such as paralysis, poison, and sleep. Paralysis means its Speed is halved, poison gradually chips away at its health, and sleep leaves it vulnerable for a few turns.

am check:

Overview:
Mega Charizard Y doesn't have 'access' to Drought, it's its default ability. Reword that to avoid any confusion.
Mention some other Water-type Pokemon it beats besides Keldeo. Also note that strong Water-types like Keldeo aren't able to OHKO Mega Charizard Y with their Water STAB-moves. (e.g. Specs Keldeo doesn't OHKO Mega Charizard Y with Hydro Pump under the Sun)

Moves:
Remove Cradily as a mention of Pokemon that don't get 2HKO'd by Flamethrower, since Mega Charizard Y can just follow up with a Focus Blast to kill it.

Usage Tips:
Give some examples of slow U-turn / Volt Switch Pokemon. (Are there any other slow U-turners available on Flying other than defensive Lando-T or Pelipper? )
Small nitpick but reword 'Roost can be used on defensive Pokemon such as ...', as you make it sound like Roost is an attacking move.
In your last bullet point, quickly note that Mega Charizard Y won't be able to switch out when using Solar Beam, just so it's more clear.

Team Options:
Nothing to add here, well written. Maybe remove 'Choice Scarf Togekiss' and just make it Togekiss in general, since pretty much any set offers good enough synergy with Mega Charizard Y to deserve a mention.

Other Options:
Mention Toxapex as another Earthquake target. Assuming you're using Hasty / Naive nature, it does more to Toxapex than Solar Beam. Also Victini.

Checks & Counters:
Move Stealth Rock up to the top, it's by far the best universal 'check' to Mega Charizard Y and Chansey is only available on 1 type.
Mention that most of the revenge-killers can't safely switch in, besides maybe Victini.

remember that this is an am check and doesn't actually count as QC 1/3, unless stamped by a QC member.

Working over this, so implement it. The one thing I disagree with is about Earthquake. Realistically, Toxapex is going to take next to no damage at all, and Fire Blast does more to Victini.

Overview:
- Part of why Roost is good on Mega Charizard Y is also because it has pretty respectable special bulk. Should add that.
- I would definitely say that while the Fire / Flying typing sure is bad defensively in most cases, it combines very well with its special bulk to make Mega Charizard Y a usable switch-in to Ice-type attacks.
- On hyper offense teams, Mega Charizard Y is one of the best Defoggers, as it often forces switches and can Defog with minimal momentum loss.
- I'd add that it faces competition for the Megaslot from Mega Aerodactyl, whose higher Speed helps it succeed in the very offense-oriented Monotype metagame.

Moves:
- Replace Hippowdon in Solar Beam. It takes more damage from Fire Blast and it can set sand anyway. How about Slowbro?

Usage Tips:
- Mention that Mega Charizard Y is very reliant on sun for its wallbreaking power and reliable use of Solar Beam, so when sun wears off, it should switch out to avoid giving walls free turns.
- For Roost examples, I would replace Toxapex and Hippowdon with Mega Sableye and Mega Venusaur, since Mega Charizard Y actually beats these two every time.
- For ways to get Mega Charizard Y into play, I'd talk about using its decent special bulk to find ways in against weak walls like Porygon2. Similarly, its Fire typing lets it switch into Ice-type attacks from even Pokemon like Nidoking.

Team Options:
- I'd add that Gliscor can set up Stealth Rock and directly say that it can act as a status absorber.
- Make it clear that Choice Band Dragonite is what forms the good wallbreaking core. You should definitely include Dragon Dance Dragonite, though, because most of its checks are beaten by Mega Charizard Y.

Other Options:
- Earthquake is only for specially defensive Heatran. Offensive Heatran takes more from Focus Blast.
- Include that Mega Charizard Y can viably run Defog over Roost on hyper offense teams, although balance teams hardly need its support.

Checks and Counters:
- I would honestly not mention Garchomp. It needs to be Stone Edge, and only Choice Scarf really runs that. Three examples will do, but you can add Latias if you want.
- You absolutely need to have Mantine and Toxapex. No longer does Mega Charizard Y completely terrorize Water teams. Both of them always switch into Mega Charizard Y and take no relevant damage at all. You can choose whether to merge Chansey with these two, as they really are just as good counters. However, only Chansey can really set up Stealth Rock and take advantage of Mega Charizard Y fully, so it's up to you.

Good work you two! QC 1/3

Nice job. Mostly nitpicking. 3/3

-first point: remove the "quickly established". In two months, that won't be necessary and will make the analysis look out of date when all the info is still good.

- don't talk about monotype as an offensively oriented metagame. Just mention aero is better versus offense while Zard is good vs balanced builds. Both are common enough to make either mega choice good.

- in OO, remove Zapdos when taking about the SpDef set. Its niche is as an ice neutrality that maintains some offensive presence, unlike mantine.

* Its decent special bulk can be used to switch into weak walls such as Porygon2. Mega Charizard Y It can also switch into Ice-type moves, such as Ice Beam from Nidoking, thanks to its Fire typing.
* Keep it away from status conditions such as paralysis and poison; paralysis halves Mega Charizard Y's speed Speed, while poison continually whittles it down, forcing it to use Roost more often.
* Roost can be used on defensive Pokemon, such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Sableye and Celesteela, that can't touch Mega Charizard Y. Since it Mega Charizard Y forces a lot of switches, this opportunity can be used to Roost as well.
* Mega Charizard Y should be used to wallbreak as early as possible, allowing its teammates to freely clean up late-game.
* Mega Charizard Y is heavily reliant on sun for its wallbreaking power and reliable use of Solar Beam. So, when sun wears off, it should be switched out to avoid giving walls free turns to recover their health back or status Mega Charizard Y.
* Don't Mega Evolve Mega Charizard Y right away if other weather setters like Politoed and Tyranitar are around, as they can take advantage of it locking itself into Solar Beam by switching into and KOing it . lock it into Solar Beam by switching in, then KO it.

Team Options
========

* Skarmory is a great defensive complement to Mega Charizard Y. It can switch into most physical attacks and can cover Mega Charizard Y's weakness to Rock-type attacks well. Additionally, Skarmory can remove Stealth Rock with Defog as well as set entry hazards of its own.
* Zapdos can pivot into Electric-type attacks that threaten Mega Charizard Y, (comma) and can remove Stealth Rock with Defog. Zapdos can also bring it Mega Charizard Y in safely through a slow Volt Switch.
* Celesteela is another specially defensive wall who that can handle Pokemon like Nihilego and Hidden Power Fire-less Latios that lack Hidden Power Fire. It can also beat Chansey one on one one-on-one with Leech Seed + Heavy Slam.
* Mantine is a great pivot to for Water-type attacks aimed at Mega Charizard Y. It can also get rid of Stealth Rock with Defog.
* Mega Charizard Y appreciates Gliscor's stallbreaking capabilities; (semicolon) as, with Taunt or Swords Dance along with Poison Heal, it can take out Pokemon such as Chansey and Toxapex who that would otherwise wall Mega Charizard Y. Gliscor can also switch into Electric-type attacks, absorb status, and set Stealth Rock. In return, Charizard can help beat Ice-types that threaten Gliscor.
* Landorus makes a great offensive partner to Mega Charizard Y, (comma) due to its Electric immunity.
Offensive variants of Landorus-T appreciate Mega Charizard Y's wallbreaking, (comma) as it allows them to clean up late-game more easily.
* Minior can utilise Mega Charizard Y's wallbreaking capabilities to set up and sweep late-game. A +2 Minior can OHKO Chansey after Stealth Rock damage with Z-Stone Edge after Stealth Rock damage, (comma) in return.
* Choice Band Dragonite forms a fearsome wallbreaking core with Mega Charizard Y, (comma) and that can put tremendous pressure on the opposing team. Dragonite and Mega Charizard Y work well together as because they can break each other'(apostrophe)s checks; Dragonite can KO Chansey, while Mega Charizard Y can break through Porygon2 and Skarmory. Dragon Dance Dragonite is also a great teammate, (comma) as Mega Charizard Y can remove most of its checks, allowing it to set up and sweep much more easily.

Other Options
=============

Flying
--------

* Earthquake is an option over Focus Blast to hit specially defensive Heatran considerably harder; however, Mega Charizard Y can no longer 2HKO Tyranitar.
* Mega Charizard Y can viably run Defog over Roost on hyper offensive teams.
* A Modest nature can be opted for over Timid for greater damage output, but Mega Charizard Y loses out on outspeeding Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Landorus-T, and Hydreigon, (comma) and speed Speed tying with Pokemon such as Charizard, Victini, and Volcarona.
* A specially defensive set can be run with support moves such as Will-O-Wisp to beat Ice-types more easily while maintaining an offensive presence; however, it lacks wallbreaking power and is outclassed by other support Pokemon such as Mantine.

Checks and Counters
===================

Flying
--------

**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock prevents Mega Charizard Y from wallbreaking freely, (comma) as it loses about half of its health whenever it switches in, (comma) forcing it to use Roost.

**Specially defensive Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey, Toxapex, and Mantine can easily switch into any attack from Mega Charizard Y, taking no relevant damage at all.

**Revenge killers Killers**: Faster physical attackers such as Terrakion, Mega Sharpedo, and Choice Scarf Victini can take advantage of Mega Charizard Y's bad Defense stat and easily KO it; however, (comma) most of them cannot safely switch in. Priority users such as Lycanroc-D, Bisharp, and Dragonite can revenge kill it with Accelerock, Sucker Punch, (comma) and Extreme Speed, respectively.

**Opposing weather setters Weather Setters**: Rain setters such as Politoed and Pelipper can shut down Mega Charizard Y by weakening its STAB move, (comma) and prevents preventing it from freely spamming Solar Beam against Water-type teams. Sand setters such as Tyranitar and Hippowdon can also be annoying for Mega Charizard Y to face, although Hippowdon can't touch it unless it runs the rare Stone Edge, and Tyranitar can't switch into a Focus Blast.

**Status**: Mega Charizard Y hates status ailments such as paralysis, poison, (comma) and sleep. Paralysis means its speed Speed is halved, poison gradually chips away at its health, and sleep leaves it vulnerable for a few turns.
