[OVERVIEW]

Blissey has exceptional HP and Special Defense. While it is typically overshadowed by Chansey in OU due to Chansey's superior bulk, Blissey does have higher Special Attack and access to passive recovery in Leftovers. This allows Blissey to run a Calm Mind set to act as a defensive setup sweeper on dedicated stall teams. Unfortunately, Blissey is very passive before it accumulates boosts and is susceptible to Taunt. In addition, Blissey is vulnerable to physical wallbreakers such as Mega Medicham, Mega Mawile, Tyranitar, and Kyurem-B. Outside of dedicated stall teams, Blissey is almost completely outclassed by Chansey.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Calm Mind is used primarily to boost Blissey's Special Attack stat and has the additional benefit of allowing Blissey to take on Tail Glow Manaphy 1v1. Soft-Boiled provides excellent recovery, allowing Blissey to reliably set up. Ice Beam lets Blissey deal great damage to many of OU's top physical threats, OHKOing Landorus-T and Garchomp at +1 and dealing a large chunk to Zygarde. Thunderbolt has solid coverage with Ice Beam and allows Blissey to beat Taunt Tapu Fini. Shadow Ball can be used over Thunderbolt to give Blissey a better matchup versus Taunt Tapu Lele and Gengar.

Set Details
========

Natural Cure is the preferred ability to allow Blissey to heal troubling status such as paralysis and poison without requiring cleric support from a teammate. Serene Grace is another option to give Ice Beam a 20% chance to freeze, but it should only be used in conjunction with cleric support from a teammate. Leftovers provides Blissey with passive recovery and allows it to avoid 2HKOs from Tapu Lele, Landorus-T, and Latios, as well as Garchomp and Greninja after Stealth Rock. 252 Defense EVs are used with a Bold nature to patch up Blissey's low Defense stat, improving its ability to set up Calm Mind. While investing in HP may seem a waste on a Pokemon with the maximum possible base HP, 252 HP EVs turns offensive Landorus-T's Earthquake and stallbreaker Tapu Lele's Psyshock into 3HKOs. Alternatively, 252 Special Defense EVs could be run to allow Blissey to better pivot into special attacks in the early-game. However, this detracts from Blissey's ability to set up late-game.

Usage Tips
========

Early-game, use Blissey to pivot into dangerous special attackers such as Mega Charizard Y, Magearna, and Ash-Greninja. If using Natural Cure over Serene Grace, Blissey can also be used to absorb status early-game. Keep Blissey healthy enough with Soft-Boiled to be able to set up late-game. After physical wallbreakers and Toxic users have been removed, bring Blissey in against special attackers or weaker physical attackers to begin setting up Calm Minds. Do not obtain more boosts than is necessary to win, as Blissey can be vulnerable to critical hits.

Team Options
========

Mega Sableye is a solid partner for Blissey, able to bounce back dangerous status like Toxic as well as preventing entry hazards. Mega Sableye is also able to counter threatening Fighting-types like Mega Medicham. Skarmory can take on physical attackers such as Tapu Bulu and can set up Stealth Rock or Spikes to wear down foes, requiring less boosts from Blissey to sweep. Dugtrio traps and KOes threatening physical wallbreakers like Tyranitar, Kyurem-B, and potentially Mega Mawile. Dugtrio can also trap and eliminate most variants of Tapu Lele and damage stallbreaker Tapu Lele with Pursuit. Unaware users such as Clefable and Quagsire prevent Blissey from being used as setup fodder early-game. Clefable can also provide Blissey with cleric support if it chooses to forgo Natural Cure. Toxapex can switch into certain Fighting-types like Keldeo for Blissey and spreads Toxic Spikes, supporting Blissey's sweep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Flamethrower can be used to allow Blissey to more quickly take out certain Steel-types such as Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Excadrill. Toxic is an option over Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball to allow Blissey to handle Unaware Pokemon as well as Pokemon that boost their Special Defense such as Volcarona and most opposing Calm Mind sweepers. Shed Shell can be used over Leftovers to allow Blissey to escape Dugtrio's trapping. However, Leftovers is preferred to avoid 2HKOs from Tapu Lele, Landorus-T, Latios, Garchomp, and Greninja. While Blissey can be used for cleric support or to set up Stealth Rock, it is typically outclassed by Chansey in this role.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physical Wallbreakers**: Physical wallbreakers keep Blissey from being able to set up safely. Fighting-types like Mega Medicham and Terrakion outspeed and OHKO Blissey, while Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Kyurem-B have enough special bulk to take boosted hits from Blissey and 2HKO in return. Choice Specs Tapu Lele, while a special attacker, is also able to use Psyshock to break through boosted Blissey.

**Toxic**: Since most variants of Blissey lacks Heal Bell or Aromatherapy, it must rely on Natural Cure or teammates to cure status. Toxic puts Blissey on a timer, forcing it out.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Specially defensive Pokemon such as Chansey and Unaware Clefable can wall Blissey and run it out of PP. Opposing Calm Mind users like Reuniclus and Slowbro can also be difficult to break through, and Blissey will lose a Calm Mind war if they carry Psyshock.

**Stallbreakers**: Stallbreakers such as Heatran and Tapu Lele can use Taunt to prevent Blissey from boosting or recovering, wearing it down and beating it.

**Dugtrio**: Dugtrio can trap and remove Blissey with a combination of Earthquake and Reversal.

Probably worth mentioning how Calm Mind is also useful for letting it 1v1 Tail Glow Manaphy, which Chansey can potentially lose to, so that's another perk going for it (albeit an uncommon Pokemon). Other than that, looks good.

Outside of dedicated stall teams, Blissey is almost completely outclassed by Chansey.
