QUALITY CONTROL

[OVERVIEW]

- Mega-Gyarados is a good defensive pokemon in this generation in that it is able to compress many desirable traits into one pokemon slot.
- Mega-Gyarados is a good check to psychic surge abusers, water-bubble abusers and power-trip or offensive steel type pokemon; all of which are quite common this generation.
- However, Mega-Gyarados can also function as a good set-up sweeper - being able to take out many teams after just one shift gear or shell smash due to how power-trip works.
- Dark's buff this gen helps out M-Gyarados a lot as well, making it immune to targeted prankster moves - meaning it can be a good check to prankster defog, etc.

[SET 1]
Name: Vanilla Regen-vest (Mega-Gyarados)
Move 1: Knock Off
Move 2: Spectral Thief / Dragon Tail
Move 3: Pursuit / Rapid Spin / Nuzzle
Move 4: U-turn
Item: Assault vest
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Sassy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 DEF / 252 SpDEF
IVs: 0 SPEED

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Knock off hits hard coming off of Mega-Gyarados's stellar attack stat. It has the benefit of removing items as well.
- Spectral thief is useful to steal boosts from pokemon that attempt to use you as setup bait.
- Pursuit punishes any pokemon that tries to switch out if the matchup is poor, ex; Mega-Mewtwo Y.
- U-turn allows Mega-Gyarados to function as a slow pivot and to trigger regenerator easily. It helps prevent Mega-Gyarados from being trapped by trappers like Thousand waves Zygarde-Ultimate.

- Dragon tail is a useful phazing move as it is not blocked by normal types like Spectral thief.
- Rapid spin lets Mega-Gyarados clear hazards for the team.
- Nuzzle lets you shut down some sweepers and acts as general speed control.
Set Details
========

- 248 HP ensures that M-Gyarados is as bulky as possible. 248 HP lets Gyarados have an uneven HP number allowing it more stealth rock switch-ins.
- 252 SpDEF is to ensure that M-Gyarados is fully able to function as a special-attack sponge.
- An assault vest further allows M-Gyarados to function efficiently as a special-sponge.
- A sassy nature and 0 speed ivs ensures that Mega-Gyarados has the slowest possible U-turns so that threats can be brought in safely.

Usage Tips
========

- M-Gyarados should be used as a switch in to strong special psychic, water types, dark and steel types in the tier.
- It can be mostly safely pivoted into against pokemon such as Mega-Mewtwo Y, Ash-Greninja, Primal-Kyogre, etc.
- It can also be used as a check to ghost type sweepers lacking secret sword and entrainment.
- Example of ghost type sweepers include: Mega-Gengar, Ghost plate Arceus and Lunala.
- Regen-vest Mega-Gyarados can also safely check doom desire abusers.
- The reason why M-Gyarados is used as a regen-vest pokemon is for role compression.
- It allows a team to check water-bubble spammers and psychic-surge, etc. abusers in one slot.
- Mega-Gyarados can also be pivoted in against special refrigerate users.
- Mega-Gyarados should not be pivoted in versus Primal-Groudon and other strong physical types as it will not be able to withstand the hits as well as it should.
- Mega-Gyarados, however does have very good bulk and can take hits it shouldn't normally be able to take. So do not be afraid to play recklessly with it if you think it can take the hit.
- Mega-gyarados can also safely imposter proof certain variants of Mega-Mewtwo Y, which is one of the main reasons to use it on a team.
- Make sure to scout for spore and other sleep inducing moves as this Mega-Gyarados set is suspectible to them.

Team Options
========

-M-Gyarados is best used on teams that appreciate role compression to check strong special psychic, water, dark and steel types.
- Pokemon such as Magic Bounce Aegislash, Unaware / Fur coat Zygarde-Complete, Fur coat M-Audino, and Prankster Regsiteel form good defensive partners with M-Gyarados.
- Pokemon such as Psychic Surge / Sheer force Mega-Mewtwo Y, Psychic Surge Lunala, Shell Smash Deoxys-Attack, Refrigerate Kyurem-White and Stakeout Palkia are good offensive partners that M-Gyarados can easily imposter proof.

[SET 2]
Name: Vanilla-Unaware (Mega-Gyarados)
Move 1: Knock Off
Move 2: Whirlwind / Spectral Thief
Move 3: U-turn / Pursuit / Rapid spin
Move 4: Shore up
Item: Safety Goggles
Ability: Unaware
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 248 HP / 252 DEF / 8 SpDEF
IVs: 0 SPEED

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Knock off hits hard coming off of Mega-Gyarados's stellar attack stat. It has the benefit of removing items as well.
- Whirlwind allows Mega-Gyarados to phaze out set-up sweepers. Whirlwind has the added benefit of not being blocked by soundproof & can phaze out entrainment Normalize Mega-Gengar.
- U-turn allows Mega-Gyarados to function as a slow pivot and prevents it being trapped by trappers who run anchor shot, spirit shackle, etc.
- Shore up provides reliable recovery for Mega-Gyarados. It is chosen over other forms of recovery due to the fact that it heals an extra amount of HP when sandstorm is up.

- Spectral thief is an alternative to whirlwind and allows Mega-Gyarados to turn into an offensive sweeper (it is imposter proof due to Unaware), if it steals the correct boosts. While still acting as a means to discourage set up. It does however leave you weaker to normal types (who are immune) and entrainment Normalize Mega-Gengar.
- Pursuit is an option to help weaken Psychic and ghost types, as well as imposter Chansey's who have impostered a dark weak pokemon on your team that M-Gyarados checks.
- Rapid spin lets Mega-Gyarados clear hazards for the team and has a good amount of PP, allowing you to stall out certain pokemon.
Set Details
========

- 248 HP ensures that M-Gyarados is as bulky as possible. 248 HP lets Gyarados have an uneven HP number allowing it more stealth rock switch-ins.
- 252 DEF and a positive defense boosting nature lets Mega-Gyarados check threatening dark type sweepers and Mega-Gengar with Secret sword easily.

- Safety goggles ensures that Mega-Gyarados cannot be put to sleep with spore.
- A relaxed nature and 0 speed ivs ensures that Mega-Gyarados has the slowest possible U-turns so that threats can be brought in safely.
Usage Tips
========

- Unaware Mega-Gyarados is an excellent counter to power-trip sweepers and all variants of Mega-Gengar.
- With its good special bulk, it can check some variants of Mega-Mewtwo Y that lack coverage to hit Mega-Gyarados super effectively.
- Unaware Mega-Gyarados is a good answer to doom desire abusers.
- Unaware Mega-Gyarados is a decent answer to contrary abusers lacking Fleur cannon, leaf storm and superpower - however it is not recommended to use it as such.

- This Mega-Gyarados should not be used to answer water-bubble.
- Make sure if possible to keep your safety goggles from being knocked off. If they get knocked off, it will make checking certain threats a lot more difficult.
- This M-Gyarados should not be used to check normal sweepers such as poison-heal Regigigas.
Team Options
========

- Mega-Gyarados appreciates wish support, so poison-heal wish passers such as Giratina and Zygarde-Ultimate are good partners. Giratina and Zygarde-Ultimate in turn can check some things that Mega-Gyarados struggles with, ex: Regigigas, Primal-Groudon.
- Unaware Mega-Gyarados is usually placed on teams that need something to imposter proof their power trip sweepers. Mega-Gyarados is therefore a good partner to things like: Shell Smash Yveltal, simple Shift Gear Mega-Tyranitar & Mega-Gyarados.
- Unaware Mega-Gyarados also pairs well with variants of Mega-Gengar and Lunala, notably: Dazzle Mega-Gengar, Entrainement Mega-Gengar and Shell Smash Lunala.
- Unaware Mega-Gyarados can also be paired with Mega-Mewtwo Y.
- Because Mega-Gyarados is weak to fairy, a good steel type such as regenerator Solgaleo pairs well with it.

[SET 3]
Name: Vanilla Simple-trip (Mega-Gyarados)
Move 1: Power Trip
Move 2: Sunsteel Strike
Move 3: Crabhammer / Spore / Ice Hammer
Move 4: Shift Gear
Item: Lum Berry / Safety Goggles / Icium-Z
Ability: Simple
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 248 HP / 252 ATK / 8 DEF

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Power trip is a good stab move that works akin to stored power. It gets +20 power for each boost, meaning after one shift gear power trip has 140 power. This means that Simple Mega-Gyarados can muscle through some unaware users.
- Sunsteel Strike lets Simple Mega-Gyarados beat Mega-Audino (unaware variants) and sturdy Shedinja.
- Crabhammer is a good, high powered stab, that has a chance to crit.
- Shift gear lets Mega-Gyarados boost to +2 ATk / +4 speed in one turn in combination with simple. This makes it a very threatening sweeper that many teams are not prepared to deal with.

- Spore is an option to help against imposter pokemon and walls that will not die to one Power trip.
- Ice hammer can allow you to muscle through Unaware / Fur Coat Zygarde-Ultimate.

Set Details
========

- 248 HP ensures that M-Gyarados is as bulky as possible. 248 HP lets Gyarados have an uneven HP number allowing it more stealth rock switch-ins.
- 252 ATK lets M-Gyarados hit as hard as possible.
- There is no speed investment on this set as Mega-Gyarados outspeeds scarf Deoxys-Speed after one shift gear with the current investment.

- Lum Berry lets Mega-Gyarados block any sort of status at least once, ex: Will-o-wisp or nuzzle, or spore etc.
- Safety goggles prevents Mega-Gyarados being put to sleep by spore. Safety Goggles should always be used if you are running spore on Simple Mega-Gyarados.
- Icium-Z can be used if you are running Ice Hammer. This lets Mega-Gyarados get off a strong ice move versus Zygarde-Ultimate and other ice weak pokemon.

Usage Tips
========

- Simple Mega-Gyarados should be used as an early game wallbreaker or late game sweeper.
- You should only try to set up once you have a general idea of what your opponent's pokemon are running or when you have Stealth Rocks up to prevent being caught unaware by Focus-Sash pokemon.
- Preferably you should always set up a shift gear first before you start sweeping.
Team Options
========

- This Mega-Gyarados appreciates imposter Chansey being removed. Therefore, good partners to this set are: Poison-Heal thousand waves Zygarde-Ultimate, Anchor Shot Mega-Audino and / or Magnet-Pull trappers.
- Because of it's potential to steam-roll teams and to counter steam-roll your team should it be impostered, a pokemon to imposter proof it is wanted. Good pokemon that can accomplish this are: Unaware/Fur coat Mega-Gyarados, Fur Coat Tapu-Fini and Prankster Steel or Fairy types with haze.
- Other set-up sweepers that can weaken common unaware pokemon are also appreciated, therefore pokemon such as Choice Specs Aerilate Mega-Rayquaza or Choice Band Stakeout Primal-Groudon can be useful.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
========

- Fur Coat Mega-Gyarados performs a similar role to Unaware Mega-Gyarados - but allows Mega-Gyarados to run a more SpDEF inclined nature. It also has the added benefit of letting Mega-Gyarados check some variants of Primal-Groudon. But, other pokemon do this role better and therefore the Unaware variant is probably better overall.
- Poison-Heal Mega-Gyarados was great in Gen-6 ORAS, and is still alright now. It does however struggle due to the prevalence of water-absorb pokemon in the tier, the threat of spectral thief and the will-o-wisp nerf.
- Water-bubble Mega-Gyarados can be worth trying, but with the prevalence of water-absorb fairies - it is not very great. It is also outclassed by water-bubble Ash-Greninja.

Checks and Counters
========

- Pixilate Pokemon: Pixilate users such as Mega-Diancie can give Mega-Gyarados trouble.
- Galvanize Pokemon: Galvanize abusers such as Xurkitree & Zekrom match up well versus Mega-Gyarados.
- Water Absorb Fairy's: These do quite well versus Mega-Gyarados lacking sunsteel strike.
- Obscenely Bulky pokemon: Zygarde-Ultimate, Tapu Fini and Mega-Gyarados are good checks to Mega-Gyarados.
- Fighting types: Mega-Mewtwo X can give Mega-Gyrados some trouble.
- Choice trick pokemon: Unware Gyrados and to a certain extent, regen-vest, are rendered useless if they are tricked a choice scarf etc.

aki0s MGyarados QC coming

Overview
- This is very well written
- Mega Gyarados's main advantage is its typing - this includes resistance to both Moon and Sun. Plus, the types that it is weak to are rare, and often unstabbed if carried.

Vanilla Regenvest (Watch your formatting! Check the main C&C thread for proper format)
Usage Tips

- Watch out for Secret Sword!
Team Options
- Things that can beat Fairy spam and Electric spam. Primal Groudon has nice synergy with Mega Gengar as it can check pixilate and galvanize.

Vanilla Unaware
Set Details

- You forgot to explain Unaware, just include a line that explains that it lets you ignore boosts so you can check setup.
- MGyarados is perfect for this bc it resists sunsteel and moongeist
Usage Details
- Against normal types it can check them with whirlwind, but youre right that it requires other Pokemon to actually counter
Team Options
- Explain why each of the things you mention make good partners (for the things that you have already done so for, just to cover all our bases)

Checks and Counters
- Add Fighting-type coverage users to Fighting-type. Secret Sword is one way a lot of special sweepers muscle past MGyara - on things like MMY or Mega Gengar. Also add Triage Mega Heracross.

Overall, this was quite well written. Good job. QC 1/3

I'll do the implementation tonight and then QC. Been super busy - but thanks for the feedback Flint! ^_^
