Battle Spot Analyses Discussion Thread.

I think there's this thing where hp>def+spd is less bulk. 228 hp should also make it so the hp is divisible by 4 which would make the Sitrus berry heal exactly 25% unlike 244 hp.
The issue then becomes centered around which provides the greatest overall amount of bulk, as having a 4n number of HP isn't advantageous compared to 4n+2 if those hit points aren't worth more individually, since in both cases Sitrus Berry heals for 51. This is a problem, as after doing some research this is something I'm finding conflicting information on. The Effort Value Calculator states that 244 HP / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Spe is best regardless of Sitrus Berry, the Survival Calculator states 252(244) / 252 Atk / 4(12) is generally optimal for taking specific hits.

EDIT: Ok so I just ran the numbers manually and here's the result:
Code:
+--------------------------+-------------------+---------------------+------------+
| Defensive Investment | Defense Sum | Special Defense Sum | Total Bulk |
+--------------------------+-------------------+---------------------+------------+
| 252 HP / 4 Def | 207 * 101 = 20907 | 207 * 100 = 20700 | 41607 |
| 244 HP / 4 Def / 4 SpD | 206 * 101 = 20806 | 206 * 101 = 20806 | 41612 |
| 244 HP / 12 Def | 206 * 102 = 21012 | 206 * 100 = 20600 | 41612 |
| 236 HP / 12 Def / 4 SpD | 205 * 102 = 20910 | 205 * 101 = 20705 | 41615 |
| 236 HP / 20 Def | 205 * 103 = 21115 | 205 * 100 = 20500 | 41615 |
| 228 HP / 12 Def / 12 SpD | 204 * 102 = 20808 | 204 * 102 = 20808 | 41616 |
| 228 HP / 28 Def | 204 * 104 = 21216 | 204 * 100 = 20400 | 41616 |
| 220 HP / 20 Def / 12 SpD | 203 * 103 = 20909 | 203 * 102 = 20706 | 41615 |
| 220 HP / 36 Def | 203 * 105 = 21315 | 203 * 100 = 20300 | 41615 |
| 212 HP / 20 Def / 20 SpD | 202 * 103 = 20806 | 202 * 103 = 20806 | 41612 |
| 212 HP / 44 Def | 202 * 106 = 21412 | 202 * 100 = 20200 | 41612 |
| 204 HP / 28 Def / 20 SpD | 201 * 104 = 20904 | 201 * 103 = 20703 | 41607 |
| 204 HP / 52 Def | 201 * 107 = 21507 | 201 * 100 = 20100 | 41607 |
| 196 HP / 28 Def / 28 SpD | 200 * 104 = 20800 | 200 * 104 = 20800 | 41600 |
| 196 HP / 60 Def | 200 * 108 = 21600 | 200 * 100 = 20000 | 41600 |
| 188 HP / 36 Def / 28 SpD | 199 * 105 = 20895 | 199 * 104 = 20696 | 41591 |
| 188 HP / 68 Def | 199 * 109 = 21691 | 199 * 100 = 19900 | 41591 |
+--------------------------+-------------------+---------------------+------------+
In other words... 228 HP / 252 Atk / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 4 Spe does indeed seem to hit the perfect balance of stats. I'm willing to concede the first point I raised given this fact. In retrospect it does still seem odd that the Effort Value Calculator didn't show this as well; I've generally considered it the end-all when it comes to spread efficiency.

I took a look at Sylveon's Battle Spot Doubles Analysis here
Pretty solid for the most part, but it doesn't even mention Feint or Snatch in passing. Those are pretty important for Sylveon's Hyper Voice to hit against an attempted Wide Guard and/or Protect. Recommended Pokes could be Hitmontop, Talonflame, and Rotom-A.

You know that isn't for Triples right? Snatch isn't really a thing in Doubles..

Even in Doubles NOVED, people use Protect a lot, so I still think Feint is worth mentioning. A typical way to deal with Sylveon would be to have 1 mon weak to Hyper Voice, and the other able to KO it, and have that weak mon as bait by using Protect. Many BS Doubles / VGC analyses have Wide Guard in their sets, like Hariyama Hitmontop
Mienshao Aegislash

The fact that most Wide Guard users are Fighting types makes it more valuable for Sylveon's partner to remove it somehow.

I don't think Protect being common is a good reason to mention Feint because then we would have to do it for everything. Since Sylveon is so slow it typically won't be able to get an attack off at all if it's in ko range. Hariyama, Hitmontop, and Mienshao are all pretty uncommon and Sylveon doesn't want to mess with Aegislash anyway.

Noticed a mistake on Kangaskhan's analysis. The Other Options says that Mega Kangaskhan's base Special Attack is 65, while it's actually 60.
