Question on using the time machine method of breeding; If starting with a 0IV pokemon and a 6IV pokemon, is it easier to breed one then try to match it to get a 5/6iv, or breed several then go for a 5/6 iv?

ok, just asking cause I am looking into getting into competitive battle (VGC rules) and wasn't sure what most people go for when stats aren't perfect.

how about a modest Heatran with 22-23/31/31/31/31/26-27 toss or keep? my guess is toss due to HP iv. what is the lowest IV values I should even start to consider looking at for non-perfect IVs when catching non-breedable pokemon?

Caught a Modest Heatran with perfect Defense, Sp. Def, and Speed IVs, toss or keep? I run offensive Heatrans but want them to be able to take a couple hits.
