I think people were already capable of hacking in XY back then (people were already talking about diancie/hoopa/volcanion back then).
And memories were actually considered a sure sign of legitimacy. Pentagons weren't because pentagons can be added or deleted pretty easily with whatever device one uses to hack

But then again, it was traded to me two years ago, thought they hadn't cracked the hacking on X and Y then...and pentagons were a sure sign of legitimacy? though... it would have had to be cloned to be traded.
