Introduction

Rate My Team (RMT) has one of the longest and most extensive histories of any section of the site. Starting back in the DPP era, RMT became an important place for new users to get help, as well as for veteran users to post their most effective teams. The section has existed on the forums and IRC for most of its lifespan. However, RMT launched a PS chatroom a few months ago. This provides an active medium for our Team Raters to communicate with those who need teambuilding help, with all the benefits associated with real-time interaction. While forum rating certainly has its benefits, real time rating offers a certain fluidity that makes it a much different experience.

How the Room Operates

The way the room operates the majority of the time is very simple. Just post your team in the chat! After that, await responses. Don't fret if your team does not get noticed immediately, as there might not be a rater for your particular tier available at that time. Feel free to message our room staff asking for rates as well. Our room staff and their tiers of specialty are listed here for reference.

Becoming a Good Contributor

Let's assume you're a fairly experienced builder and battler in your own right. You want to help others? Feel free to jump right in! Similar to the forums, there's no requirement as to who can and can't rate teams. We typically look for solid activity in our contributors and for decent rating knowledge. Activity is self-explanatory; just chat frequently and you will get noticed eventually. As far as level of rating knowledge among potential contributors goes, I'd offer the same advice to someone on PS as I would someone on the forums. RMT threads and activities such as Rating Basics, Common Rating Mistakes You Should Avoid, and Rating Practice Teams rounds are great resources in terms of what makes good rates and how to rate well. If you feel your rating skill is lacking, feel free to PM our staff either on PS or on the forums and we'll be more than happy to help.

Projects

As mentioned previously, the RMT room is home to several different types of projects. The first, and most notable, are workshops. The RMT room runs two types of workshops. The first is a rating workshop. During this time, official Team Raters will rate teams in a public fashion, with modchat on to ensure an uninterrupted chat. This gives users a great chance to get their teams rated. In addition, it gives prospective Team Raters the opportunity to see how Team Raters think when rating a team. What better way to learn about rating than watching some of the best work their craft?

We also run a second type of workshop. On occasion, we will run a teambuilding workshop with the cooperation of the Competitive Tutoring room. You can submit a core to be built, and depending on time constraints and volume of requests, your core may even get picked as a subject for the workshop! The other benefit of these workshops, outside of possibly getting a new team, is you get an inside look at how Team Raters (and Competitive Tutoring auth) build teams. Rating teams requires a strong knowledge of teambuilding, so seeing how Team Raters build teams can be very helpful to prospective raters.

Due to a demand for tours in the room, an old IRC favorite has migrated the RMT room. Yes that's right, RMT Cups have returned! These tours, played in a variety of tiers, award points when won. These points get tracked on a leaderboard, and the winner at the end of the month receives a prize (which may vary). In addition, if you win a tour, you will receive priority to have a team rated at the next available workshop.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this is an exciting time for the RMT room. The room is now a few months old, and those first few months are often the hardest. Now, the room is developing a strong culture, with both dedicated raters from the forums and new raters who started rating on PS. If the forum rating experience doesn't fit with you, either as a rater or as one seeking help with their team, maybe the faster-paced PS experience is the right fit!
